Existence by Carolyn Frank

Sunday, May 29th, 2016

My review: 5 stars

Existence by Carolyn Frank is a YA book with likable characters and real life problems. Josh is a new student at his high school and first day he get stack with Ester the weird girl in his class. There is mystery about her and possible murder in her family.

For his part Josh come from a trouble home. They had to move in a hurry and his mother had to go back to work because of it. His father is a grumpy man that wants to live his dreams through Josh without any care of what kind of life his son is living because of it. Pretty much a micromanager and a negative man that seam to have a problem being alive and letting his family have a life of their own.

Murder and More by Gerald W. Darnell

Tuesday, May 24th, 2016

My review

Murder and More is a good detective story with lots of mystery and twists to keep you guessing through each page to the end. The characters are well developed and complicated which adds to the mystery. There are plenty of dead people without gore, beautiful women and the traitors as is to be expected in a good mystery.

Butterfly Blink! A Book Without Words

Butterfly Blink! A Book Without Words by Karl Beckstrand

My review:

I have never seen a book without words before, especially for children. Butterfly Blink! A Book Without Words by Karl Bertrand is just that. It has colorful pictures on every page but you have to give meaning to the art there. There are so many possibilities that you could read the same book many times and change the story line each time.

61+ODD39LEL._SX398_BO1,204,203,200_

If you ask me, I think that every page could be a different story but then I have been accused of a huge imagination before. Either way, I think that this book could be one of your favorites as a parent and your children’s favorite. You could even have your kids make up stories for you. Comprehension, vocabulary and many other skill needed in life could be learned and practiced with this book. It provides a win win situation for all involved. As such it can become a great tool for elementary teachers everywhere.

Great idea, Karl Berckstrand.

A Fire That Heals– A Lost Faith Is Never Too Far Gone

Tuesday, May 17th, 2016

“A Lost Faith Is Never Too Far Gone”
Serena is devastated when her lifelong friend, Aminadab, is banned from Zarahemla for abandoning his faith and persecuting the saints. To add to her despair, she loses the rare ruby her father entrusted to her and she feels all is lost.
Unbeknownst to her, Aminadab finds the ruby, and takes it as his only reminder of Serena. As an outcast, Aminadab and his company of dissenters seek refuge among the Lamanites, who happen to be the very people who killed his parents. Not only is his anxiety high for being surrounded by these bloodthirsty people, but he quickly discovers he’s in the middle of a Gadianton plot to start a war between the Nephites and Lamanites.
Selling the ruby soon becomes the only option Aminadab has at escaping the volatile life he finds himself in. However, this act might forever banish him from ever being in Serena’s graces again.

In D Vansen’s Book of Mormon adventure, Aminadab must choose which side he’s on in a reflective journey of self-discovery, while Serena must stay faithful and hold onto the hope that a lost faith is never too far gone.

D Vansen lives in Northern Utah with her family. After serving a LDS mission, she developed a love for the Book

of Mormon and its eternal truths. She claims that if you ever want the scriptures and its characters to come to life,
plot a novel from them. She loves all things artistic, unless it involves combining food ingredients. Thank heavens
she has children that will help with that specific talent.

What a treat this book has been for me. I truly enjoyed the tale and the characters in it. I believe this is an excellent piece for young adults as young as 10 years old and up. It is a great book to learn about choices, repentance, forgiveness. It will also help many to make better choices in their lives and stay closer to the faith of their fathers. It is excellent material without being preachy and is presented in a non-threatening way. You enjoy a clean read from the first page to the end.
Serena, is devastated when her best friend Aminadab is banished from their city because he is associated with a radical group some members of which had killed some members of the church of God that she belong to. The same day she loses her father’s precious stone, a treasure that was passed to her by him and the lost off it that will bring great sadness to her family.
How can she keep the faith when all seems lost to her?
In this book you will find a great tale with some elements from the Book of Mormon and some elements from the author’s imagination. In all it works beautifully, but is not considered doctrine. It is an excellent work of art. I loved it.

Anna, tell us where you were born

Anna_Lee_Huber_Headshot_1

I was born in a small town in northwestern Ohio, the type of place where everyone knows everyone. It was a great place to grow up. We could ride our bikes from one end to the other without worrying about anything other than staying out of the traffic on the highway through town.
What is the most difficult thing about being an author?

The isolation you work in. You spend months and months researching, and writing, and rewriting a book, with no feedback except from yourself. And then you send the manuscript off to your editor and pray that it’s not complete crap. Those lengthy periods where your book lives and dies with you can be hard, and crippling to your self-confidence if it doesn’t seem to be going well.
Who has made the greatest difference for you as a writer?

Wanderlust …

Wednesday, May 11th, 2016

Bernadette Marie has been an avid writer since the early age of 13, when she’d fill notebook after notebook with stories that she’d share with her friends. Her journey into novel writing started the summer before eighth grade when her father gave her an old typewriter. At all times of the day and night you would find her on the back porch penning her first work, which she would continue to write for the next 22 years.
In 2007 – after marriage, filling her chronic entrepreneurial needs, and having five children – Bernadette began to write seriously with the goal of being published. That year she wrote 12 books. In 2009 she was contracted for her first trilogy and the published author was born. In 2011 she (being the entrepreneur that she is) opened her own publishing house, 5 Prince Publishing, and has released contemporary titles and has begun the process of taking on other authors in other genres.
Bernadette spends most of her free time driving her kids to their many events. She is also an accomplished martial artist, working her way to her second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. An avid reader she loves to meet readers who enjoy reading contemporary romances and she always promises Happily Ever After.

A DEATH ALONG THE RIVER FLEET

Friday, May 6th, 2016

Susanna, when did you first know you wanted to be an author?

I started writing little stories when I was very young. My favorite assignment in elementary school was when we had to write stories using about twenty spelling words each time. I dreamed vaguely of being a published author, but in reality, it just seemed so far-fetched. Even when I started writing my first novel, I don’t think I really believed that I was writing a real book. It still just felt like an enjoyable hobby.

What makes you passionate about writing?

I love when an image pops in my head and I think, ‘I just have to use this in a story.’ I derive great enjoyment from the simple act of writing a story down—the very process has always fun for me. It is probably good that my time to write is so limited; when I finally have time to write, my fingers will fly, either at the keyboard or scratching along by pen. I think I spend so much time pondering my story when I’m not physically writing, that when I’m ready, I am ready. So that keeps writing from feeling like a chore.

What was the pathway like for you to get your first book published? Were you ever discouraged along the way? If so, how did you deal with it?

 41yFwiudizL._SY200_

Well, I wrote my first novel, A MURDER AT ROSAMUND’S GATE, as an enjoyable hobby over the course of ten years. I wrote under no pressure at all, a scene here, a scene there, but I knew nothing of how to actually structure a novel, let alone a mystery. Everything changed when my then two-year old son broke his leg, and I had to stay home with him. I was filled with renewed determination to complete my novel. So while I played trains with my left hand, I was writing in long-hand with my right, and I began to work in earnest. It was at that point that I shared this long-held secret with my husband. After his initial surprise, he was extremely encouraging and helped me find a few hours here and there to finish my dream. I don’t think I ever felt really discouraged during that time because I honestly thought that novel-writing was what other people did. When I finally starting querying, I did find that process discouraging, and I started working on another novel to keep me motivated. But that first book did sell and I ended up with a series, which I will always appreciate.

Wow that is so cool. How do you come up with your character’s names?

Mostly, I select names that come from the penny press of the period, or I follow the most common naming practices from the period, which was to use (more…)

Where Shadows Dwell no light can be seen

About the Book:

For Lily Frost, love is a double edged sword. She craves it, she needs it, but the asking price for love may be her life.
After her mother’s apparent suicide, Lily receives a terrible warning: leave California or run the risk of death. Afraid for her life, she flees. Her only hope for safety lies with her father, a man who abandoned her when she was five. But while she searches for him, she discovers love and safety in the arms of James Prescott.
James is a man tormented by his mother’s unsolved murder. More than anything he wants to see her killer lifeless, lying in a shallow grave. When Lily enters his life, he realizes that he hasn’t been living. Lily shines for him, a light that finally pierces the darkness. For the first time in years, he feels hope. Their relationship blossoms and Lily discovers that she is worthy of love. However, she soon realizes that the safety she craves and the love she’s found may be short lived.
The past James carries and the life Lily left behind collide, throwing the couple into the path of the murderer. Secrets long buried come to surface and threaten to destroy everything. Will they face their demons together or will they let the past tear them apart?

New book coverEBOOK

My Review: 5 stars

Where Shadows Dwell Book 1 by Author Juliannne Kelsch is a murder-mystery-romance with abuse. I enjoyed this story all the way to the end. It is a sweet romance that includes a mystery, many bodies, and two people who are trying to make it through life with their hearts and their bodies intact.

As fate would have it, they find each other under the most interesting circumstances. However, they both have to trust in each other before they can let their hearts be healed by the love from the other.

But what can you do when the twists keep making you break up? Read this book and find out.

The characters in this story are lovable, at least all the ones you should love; and hateful all the ones that should be hated. This entire story will keep you interested to the end, and leave you feeling warm and cozy.

This is a refreshingly clean book with violence, not to descriptive or gory. I would recommend it to adults and young adults alike. It will help you define rules that you should live your life by if you have common sense. It’s not preachy, but teaches good morals; a thing that should never be out of fashion. What a great job, read away.

I received a copy of the book from Loving The Book in exchange for an honest review.
