The
Sisters, Texas Series Book 1
by
Becki Willis
Genre:
Cozy Mystery

Named
2016 Best Mystery Series by Texas Association of Authors.

When
Madison Reynolds finds herself widowed and penniless before forty,
she does the only thing she knows to do – she packs up her teenage
twins and moves back home with her eighty-year-old grandmother. Life
in The Sisters, Texas has not changed much since she’s been gone,
but at least her best friend Genesis is there to soften the
transition back into small-town life.

To
make ends meet, Madison opens In a Pinch Temporary Services.
Her first real client is Ronny Gleason, but when she shows up for the
first day of work at the Gleason Poultry Farm, Madison makes a
gruesome discovery. The dead body she finds belongs to Mr. Gleason.
When a local man is arrested for murder, Madison takes on the job of
proving his innocence. Even though she is not a private investigator,
both mothers are desperate: Lucy Ngyen to clear her son’s name, and
Madison to pay her bills. But as she begins asking questions around
town, her interference is not welcome.

With
a daughter determined to go back to Dallas, a son settling into small
town life, a feisty grandmother who knows all the town gossip, bill
collectors calling, and now someone trying to keep her silent,
Madison has no time for re-kindling her high school crush with police
chief Brash deCordova. She has her hands full just trying to stay
alive.

If
she survives her amateur investigation, Maddy has a decision to make.
Will she go back to her life in Dallas, or will she build a new life
here in The Sisters?

When The Stars Fall
The
Sisters, Texas Series Book 2

Madison
Reynolds is rebuilding her life, one obstacle at a time.

But
the building blocks aren’t standard issue: widowed at
thirty-nine…betrayed by her late husband…mother of teenaged
twins…finances in shambles…living with her eighty-year-old
grandmother…still attracted to her teenage crush Brash deCordova,
who just happens to be the Chief of Police in The Sisters…embroiled
in yet another murder mystery… How will she ever get all the blocks
assembled and stacked one upon another, in order to build a future
for herself and her children?

Madison’s
newest client at In a Pinch Temp Service is a
suspicious wife, up against a formidable foe—the lovely Caress
Ellingsworth, former soap opera queen. When the star is murdered and
Madison is eyewitness to the deed, she wonders if the shadowed person
she saw commit the crime might really be her client. Now Madison is
torn between uncovering the truth and keeping her client’s name off
the suspect list.

Caress
is not the only star in town these days. With a little help from
Granny Bert and Madison’s best friend Genesis, the popular
television show Home Again arrives, with some crazy notion about
remodeling the Big House for Maddy and her twins. The problem is,
Madison can’t afford to buy the house, much less pay to have it
renovated. No matter how tempting the offer—or how tempting the
show’s star, Nick Vilardi—Madison sees it as just another block
that will not fit.

Even
if she manages to stack the blocks in a semblance of order, even if
she climbs her way up and reaches for the sky, what happens when the
stars fall?

Stipulations and
Complications
The Sisters, Texas
Series Book 3

Life
comes with stipulations.

If you want to fit into last year’s
swimsuit, you can’t eat ice cream and a Gennydoodle cookie after
every meal.

If you want to go to Heaven, you can’t raise Hell on
Saturday night and show up in the church pew on Sunday morning,
hungover and reeking of cheap perfume.

And if you want your
hundred-year-old mansion completely updated and remodeled for free,
you have to sacrifice.

Stipulations, my child.
-Granny Bert
Cessna

Now
that Madison Reynolds has agreed to be part of a reality-television
home remodeling show, she barely recognizes her own life. The show is
an instant success, bringing cameras and reporters right to her
doorstep, eager to chronicle her every move in the small Texas town.

With In
a Pinch Temporary Services
hovering on the thin line between
prosperity and extinction, Madison takes on another quirky case, this
one concerning a property dispute. Complications turn a simple
mission into all-out danger, and once again Madison finds herself
embroiled in an intriguing mystery.

Between
her cantankerous grandmother, a moody teenage daughter, an
ever-starving son, townspeople eager to grab their fifteen minutes of
fame at her expense, and a mother-in-law appalled by her undignified
foray into the public eye, Madison had her hands full, long before
the skeleton was discovered. Now work is interrupted at the Big
House, ghost stories abound, more secret passages have been
unearthed, and someone is trying to scare her away from her new home.

What
she needs
is another session of Brash deCordova’s unique
‘river therapy’… not to mention the kiss that eludes them with
frustrating regularity.

What
she gets
is another round of stipulations and complications.

The last Airmen in Chanute Air Force Base…the experience haunts him to this day.

Saturday, July 29th, 2017

In 1992 an aimless young man decided to serve his country and
joined the Air National Guard. To complete his training, he was sent to venerable Chanute Air Force Base in the flats of Illinois to learn how to turn
wrenches on jet engines. It was a place brimming with history, a place he soon grew to love.
Soon thereafter, Chanute closed its doors forever, becoming a modern ruin in the years that followed, taking the young man’s heart with it.
This humorous, witty and occasionally ribald memoir details the experience of one of the last Airmen to pass through the hallowed gates of Chanute Air Force Base, and how the experience haunts him to this very day.

A swashbuckling romance by Linda Weaver Clarke

Friday, July 28th, 2017

Bio: Linda Weaver Clarke is the author of 22 books: historical romances, period romances, a romantic cozy mystery series, a mystery suspense series, a children’s book, and non-fiction. She has also traveled throughout the United States giving lectures on writing techniques. All her books are family friendly. She lives in Color Country, which is located in southern Utah among all the red mountains.

Linda Weaver Clarke is having a Book Giveaway, which will last until Aug 21st: Every visitor will receive 7 EBOOKS FREE if they preorder the Historical Romance: The Fox of Cordovia. For these promotional giveaways, go to https://lindaweaverclarke.wordpress.com.

Linda, what book(s) have changed your life?

This may sound strange, but the scriptures have changed my life immensely. I can’t tell you how much they have influenced me in my life. I try to read them on a regular basis. In fact, one of my favorite stories in the scriptures is Joseph, who was sold into Egypt by his brothers. It always touches my heart when he recognizes them during the famine, as they ask for help. He doesn’t hate them for what they did but rather teaches them a lesson.

Also, the story of Captain Moroni, the Title of Liberty, and the Freemen has always intrigued me each time I read it. When they’re fighting for their freedom against the Kingmen, I feel I’m right there beside them. The fight for liberty has always touched my heart.

I too love the scriptures. Who are your favorite authors?

I’m probably prejudice, but my favorite author is my daughter, Serena Clarke. I absolutely love her stories. They’re fantasy romances, but what I love about them is that each book in The Isian Series is about the fight for truth and freedom, and the women in her books are strong characters. I like that. They don’t stand idly by, allowing the men to thwart the enemy. In one way, it’s a lot like your fantasies, Anna. Your women are strong and fight for what they believe.

I agree with you, Serena’s characters are awesome. Thank you fort he compliment…Tell us why you wrote your new book. What is it about?

I absolutely love stories that are page-turners, which have some mystery, romance, and suspense. I love a romance where the man and woman know they are meant for one another. Even though there are trials along the way, they never give up on the other. I also like strong women characters in a story.

In this swashbuckling romance, a sinister plot has just been uncovered and its up to a former patriot and a young nurse to discover who is behind it. Caroline is engaged to the future mayor of Laketown, a man of influence and greatly respected. But all that changes when she overhears a conspiracy behind closed doors. After being discovered, she runs for her life. Caroline needs to report her findings, but whom can she trust? When she asks Jesse Conover for help, the adventure begins.

Sounds interesting. Where did you get your inspiration for The Rebel Series?

All three books in this series are love stories set in the late 1700s. The Rebel Series was inspired by the stories of the American patriots who fought to be free from the dictatorship and tyranny of a king. It’s a theme that is dear to me. Liberty is something that I cherish. It’s a precious gift given to us by those who fought so valiantly. When I read the stories of the American Revolution, my heart swells with gratitude for those loyal patriots. When I look at our flag and pledge allegiance to it, tears well up in my eyes. When I listen to The Star Spangled Banner or God Bless the U.S.A., I get choked up. Especially when it’s sung by a choir.

I too love those patriotic songs. Where can we find your books?

What do you get when wizards banish a powerful demon?…3 teens from Seattle

Thursday, July 27th, 2017

What makes you passionate about writing?

I love good story-telling. Whether it’s a movie, a novel or a comic book, I love taking in any great story. Since I was young I’ve always enjoyed sci-fi and fantasy stories in particular. Something about them has just always captured my imagination. Through my life I’ve searched for good sci-fi and fantasy to take in, and I just simply haven’t found enough of it. Since there wasn’t enough out there for my taste, I decided that I needed to make my own. I write the kind of stories that aren’t really out there right now, and that I really want to read. So I’m passionate about my writing because I’m creating the things I want to find out in the world.

It sounds fascinating. Do you have a writing routine?

I try to keep up a routine of writing a few hours per day. It can be a bit difficult, since I work full-time and have a family, but my writing flows better and faster if I can find a little time to do it every day, so I do my best to make sure it happens. As far as what I do when I’m writing, I don’t really have a specific routine, I just sit down and start writing.

A panter…so am I. What is the title of your book?

My latest book is the first in The Cross-Road Travelers series. It’s called The Key to the Demon’s Gate.

What genre does your book fall under?

This book is considered to be a YA fantasy, and it certainly fits in with that genre, but I’ve kept it clean and appropriate enough that I’ve found it to be quite popular with elementary school children and their parents as well as teens.

I love YA. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

When a group of wizards from another world attempt to banish a powerful demon, they actually trade its place with 3 teens from Seattle.

Don’t say…really? How long did it take you to write the first draft of The Key to the Demon’s Gate?

It took me about 6 months to write the first draft of this book. Re-writes and editing took me another 6 months on top of that.

Edits and more edits… we could write another book if we didn’t have to edit. What other books would you compare this story to, within your genre?

One of my biggest inspirations for this story was The Chronicles of Narnia. I love the concept of kids from Earth traveling to new worlds. There are a lot of magical aspects to this story that are similar to Harry Potter as well, but I think most readers will be pleased to find aspects of these stories that they’ve never found anywhere else before.

Narnia and Harry Potter you said? I’m in…Who or What inspired you to write this book?

As I mentioned before, I always loved the concept of kids being transported to another world, so I wanted to write a story about that. Aside from liking that concept a lot, I don’t know that there’s really one specific source of inspiration for the story, it just comes from everything that I take in and think about every day.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

This story truly has something for everyone with a strong imagination. It’s full of magic, fighting, bandits, pirates, heists, and so many other things. A lot of stories include too many things, and get overwhelming, but my focus in writing is on strong relatable characters, because having characters like that gives me the chance to include so many things and still keep the story interesting without being too much. A quick read through the reviews being left for this book will show you that my readers agree. This book is full of powerful imagination balanced out by fun, and interesting characters, making it a great read for people of all ages.

Where can we find your book?

This book is available in print, as an ebook, or as an audiobook on Amazon at this link: myBook.to/CRT-1

He is obnoxious, horrible, ridiculously charming, and insanely hot

Don’t
Let Him Go
I
Want Morrison Book 1
by
Kay Harris
Genre:
Contemporary Romance

When
a strict and careful corporate lawyer collides with a laid-back,
risk-taking activist they find an unexpected, unexplainable, and
possibly, an unemployment-risking kind of love.

Candace
Gleason is making all of her dreams come true. She passed the bar,
landed a great job, and is making a killer salary as a corporate
attorney. Everything seems to be working out perfectly. That is until
she’s assigned to keep the boss’s petulant son out of
trouble.

Jack
Morrison is the rebellious black sheep of a mighty real estate
family. He runs a non-profit whose mission is to save poor people
from evil corporations, like the one his own family owns. He is
obnoxious, horrible, ridiculously charming, and insanely hot. He is
the bane of Candace’s very existence.

Candace
has more to worry about than just keeping Jack from chaining himself
to bulldozers, though. She has to keep him from locking up her heart,
too.

This
contemporary romance has a touch of sweet, a little-bit sexy, and a
whole lot of fun. It does not have a cliffhanger and contains a
perfect HEA!

Don’t
Let Him Go’ is part of the three-book series ‘I Want Morrison.’
Each book in the series deals with a different Morrison sibling and
each can be read as a stand-alone.

People observation is in my blood. I write contemporary romance
novels that emphasize character development and dialogue.
The situations my characters find themselves in might not be

I
have always loved romance novels of all kinds, and I’ve been writing

those stories in full length novels.
The Love

a coming together of my love of romance and my love of rock n’ roll.

Her next gig may last a lifetime–behind bars

Monday, July 24th, 2017

Synopsis:
“Yogi Kate must clear her name of murder in this charming yoga mystery

When Kate Davidson gets an offer to teach yoga classes to wedding guests at the Elysian Springs resort, she jumps at the opportunity, even though it means being forced to endure the wedding ceremony of the center’s two caretakers.

Avoiding the M-word turns out to be the least of Kate’s problems when a wedding guest is found floating face-down in the resort’s hot tub, shortly after a loud, public (and somewhat embarrassing) fight with Kate. The police pick Kate as their number-one suspect, so she’s forced to team up with boyfriend Michael, best friend Rene, and German shepherd sidekick Bella to find the real killer. But they’ll have to solve the murder before the police arrest Kate, or her next gig may last a lifetime–behind bars.”

My review of the audio

A Killer Retreat by Tracy Weber is a light mystery with a bit of romance. I reviewed the audiobook. It was offered to me for my honest opinion. The narrator has a pleasant voice. The characters are well done. The story is read by the narrator, not acted out. She doesn’t scream when the character screams she just says “She screamed”. I enjoyed the clean sound of the story.

My review of the book Murder Strikes a Pose ****

A Killer Retreat by Tracy Weber, Book Two in the Downward Dog Mystery Series. I enjoyed this tale, though I didn’t as much as the first one “Murder Strikes A Pose.” The yoga studio owner Kate Davidson, goes to teach yoga to an island were the owners of a resort are getting married. She brings her boyfriend Michael and her special needs dog, Bella. The wedding party is all there and some of the people are plain rude, as is the step mom who gets killed. This shouldn’t result in a problem, but our yoga instructor was seen twice by a bunch of people in heated argument with the woman. All signs point to her and she is in trouble.

This is a nice story line that will entertain you and give you a few laughs. A Killer Retreat however has more about the yoga instructor’s personality and I didn’t like her. She whines way to much about everything, and it got tiresome after the first few chapters…In my opinion. The other thing I noticed was that the murder didn’t happen soon enough to keep my attention. The whines got to me first. A bit slow on the start, it led to a bit of disappointment in the book, though it is a good book. A Killer Retreat by Tracy Weber will be enjoyed by many murder mystery fans.

The author:

Tracy Weber is the author of the award-winning Downward Dog Mysteries series featuring yoga teacher Kate Davidson and her feisty German shepherd, Bella. Her first book, Murder Strikes a Pose won the Maxwell Award for Fiction and was 2015 Agatha award nominee for Best First Novel. The third book in her series, Karma’s a Killer, will released January, 2016 by Midnight Ink.

Tracy and her husband live in Seattle with their challenging yet amazing German shepherd Tasha. When she’s not writing, Tracy spends her time teaching yoga, walking Tasha, and sipping Blackthorn cider at her favorite ale house.

Tips on how and why to use dialogues

Thursday, July 20th, 2017

Readers normally want a fast paced book to get away from their mundane and pathetic life. They want to travel with your characters, not to be told what the character is doing. They want to be there with them or be them; to hurt with them, to smell the food and taste it with them, to see the morning sun go up and to feel the afternoon rain fall on their face.

What they usually don’t want is to fall asleep reading. (If they want to fall asleep reading, they can grab a textbook.)

What is one of your responsibilities as an author?

To keep the story moving at a good pace or you will lose your readers…forever, a huge no, no in our business.

So what keeps a story moving?

Dialogues is one excellent way. Most anything you need to say can be said in a dialog.

For example: (more…)

Satisfied there was nothing untoward in my appearance, I made my way down to the drawing room, where my family always gathered before a meal. I passed a maid carrying a covered tray, Mama’s meal. I pursed my lips, not liking the thought of my mother eating alone night after night.

I could hear my family, Philippa above all the others, long before I reached the doorway. When I pushed the door open, she was in the middle of demonstrating some bit of silliness she had done earlier in the day. Stooped over in a ridiculous position, she glanced over and her face brightened with a broad smile.

“Luke!” she exclaimed as she straightened herself. “You look so grown up!”

“You are generous, Philly,” I said with a wry smile. I faced the rest of the group. Father was sitting by the fireplace with my older brother, George, standing at his shoulder. “Father, George. I hope I haven’t kept you waiting.”

I’d arrived downstairs several minutes early, so I was surprised when Father said, “I’m not the one to whom you should apologize, Lucas.”

Turning, I took a moment to study the seated woman. Her appearance was nothing like the kind of lady I’d believed my brother would choose as his wife, though she was pretty by any person’s standards. Her hair was blonde and curled around her face. Her figure was admirable, but it was the expression on her face that sent chills down my spine: one of judgment and disdain.

“You must be my new sister. I am delighted to meet you, ma’am. Welcome to the family.”

She shifted her blue-eyed gaze to my brother, refusing to acknowledge my greeting. “Rosamund, may I present to you my younger brother, Lucas,” George introduced formally. “Lucas, this is my wife, Rosamund.”

“So, the rapscallion brother finally decided to do his duty,” Rosamund said, returning her gaze to me. “Mister Lucas Bywood, I wish I could say it is a pleasure, but your reputation precedes you.”

Surprised by this greeting, I tried not to allow her words to annoy me. She could only have heard me described as a scapegrace from my family, but surely it was only said in a jocular manner! I may have chosen my own course in life, but I was by no means the disgrace to the Bywood family as she was implying.

“My dear sister Rosamund —I may call you Rosamund, may I not?” I stepped forward, caught her hand, and brought it up to my lips. The shocked expression on her face almost made me burst out laughing, but I controlled my features. “I have no doubt you will ensure my brother lives with absolute propriety.”

“What do you mean by that?” George demanded, bristling as he stepped closer.

Rosamund pulled her hand free of my grip. “Nothing at all, George,” I said, taking a step back. I glanced around the room and commented, “How quiet it is without Mama, Jane, Celia, and Jo here.

”My three older sisters had married before I had left for my Grand Tour, so I should have been accustomed to the reduced number of our family for dinner. Perhaps it was the lack of Mama that made me feel the change. The room just felt darker than I remembered it ever being.

“Isn’t that the nature of families, Master Lucas?” Rosamund asked primly. Her referring to me as “Master Lucas” made my lips twitch. Only servants called me that, and I doubted she would appreciate the comparison. And why was she referring to me as if I were a child? “Children grow up and make their own homes. You will, quite soon I am told, make a new start with your own bride.”

“Soon, you say? I’m afraid you have been misinformed, Rosamund. I have no intentions of settling down anytime in the near future.” I was amused by the notion until I saw my father’s face. And George’s face. And Philippa’s face? When it seemed no one else was amused, I stopped laughing. “Have I missed something?”

“You are engaged to Phoebe Ramsey, are you not? George told me you were.”

Garon Whited
Genre:
SciFi, Fantasy, Dystopian

“It’s
the end of the world, and I have the best seat in the
house.”

Armageddon
has arrived. It’s not as bad as we thought.

The
world is in trouble.
Correction.
The world is ending and soon. The last days are coming and humanity
is unable to stop it. Naturally, humanity has a backup plan.
Welcome
to the Moon, where the air is thin, life is hard, and the Earth isn’t
fit to live on.
Now,
how can we make things better?
Luna
is Garon Whited’s science fiction and fantasy story of one man
surviving the end of the world despite it’s many obvious obstacles
and his attempt to save some of humanity.

From
the very first line, “Luna” grabs the reader. Where most
books start with a world in trouble and ride the story on in to the
Last Days, “Luna” starts with the ultimate end of the world
and flies forward into the future.

The
end of the world has never been quite so entertaining. Crushing
despair, soaring hope, and the stubborn determination of humanity all
come together in a story told by a man in the middle of it
all.

Genre:
Contemporary Fiction

For
a quarter of a century forty-five-year-old Zinc has worked as a
caretaker for a wealthy old man, living in a small casita on his
ranch in New Mexico. She doesn’t make much money, but she has the old
man, her dogs, and gorgeous views of the mountains. She is basically
a very content recluse who doesn’t invest much time thinking about
what she might do if her circumstances change. So when the old man
dies suddenly, and his daughter all but throws her off the property,
Zinc is forced to reinvent herself—and quickly. With a touch of
magical realism and a collection of offbeat characters, The
Accidental Art Thief explores the thin line between life and death
and the universal forces that connect all things.

“Zinc
is an engaging, quirky, and utterly unique heroine, instantly
likeable, with a hefty mixture of strong intelligence and
overwhelming naivety…. While the novel is realistic, there is
subtle magic woven in nearly every line, as coincidence and confusion
come together into what might be termed the wisdom of time, spirit,
and love.” ~ Magdelena Ball, CompulsiveReader.com, author of

“Schweighardt
populates her modern-day odyssey through the southwest with

After the Flowers Die: A Handbook of Heartache, Hope and Healing After Losing a child by Author Melanie Delorme
“Is it possible to survive the loss of a child?

Even though
you might be feeling that the answer to this question is no, never, absolutely not; be assured that not only is it possible for you to survive, but you are also strong enough to thrive after this devastating tragedy.
The loss of a child creates a gaping hole in a parent’s heart that seems unbearable and the
only people who truly understand your pain are other bereaved parents. Melanie
is one of those parents and, in After the Flowers Die, she offers encouragement, hope and honest suggestions for how you can once again experience joy.
This book is written in an easy to read A to Z format and covers topics that many parents
may experience, such as anger, bitterness, birthdays, Christmas, hope, signs,
and more. If you have lost a child and are feeling hurt and lost, this book is
a great starting point for you to acknowledge your loss, celebrate your child’s
life and find hope.
Are you ready to begin your journey towards healing?”

~ Amazon ~ Amazon UK
~ Amazon Canada ~ Amazon Australia ~
Snippet:
Anger is such a dangerous emotion to embrace, and even though it does not rear its head without cause, too often we forget that we have the power to control it.
Every time I wanted to scream at someone, it was warranted—in my mind. However, what would it have gained me? Would it have made me feel better? Maybe for a minute. But unless it brought my son back, it would not have made me truly happy, and to be the source of another person’s hurt was not going to make me feel better.
I know a mother whose child was Idned by a reckless driver
who failed to stop at a stop sign. This mother spent three years living in a
state of rage. She attended every court hearing the driver faced, insisting
that he be jailed for life. She wrote letters to her government officials
demanding that he never receive bail, and she spoke of nothing else. The courts
deemed this particular accident to be just that—an accident, and the man spent
no time in jail. We can all understand her outrage, but having that man spend
the rest of his life in jail was not going to take away her agony; it was not
going to bring her daughter back. Furthermore, that man was also going to spend
the rest of his life hurting and coping with his guilt.
Anger becomes dangerous when we choose to take this emotion
with us on our daily journey. The bottom line is this: the more time you spend
angry, the less time you will spend grieving and the further away it will take
you from your memories and the further away you will be from acceptance.
So why isn’t anger higher on the list than acceptance? Well obviously, because my book would no longer be alphabetical. But seriously, accept that you may be angry. Allow yourself to be angry—temporarily. It will be the acceptance of your anger that will allow you to deal with it in a healthy or even practical manner. Consider taking some action to alleviate your anger. Throw something. Punch something. Scream in your car. Cry in your bedroom. Perhaps one of these will make you feel better, or perhaps you need a bigger outlet for your anger.
Have you ever heard of Candy Lightner? She was so outraged when her daughter, Cari, was killed by a drunk driver in 1980 that
she organized Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). I It doesn’t get
much more practical than that! I’m not saying you need to become the founder of
a new organization, but perhaps you can join an existing one or simply share
your anger with others who have had similar experiences.
