Looking
Back On Forever
by
Kat Alexander
Genre:
Contemporary Romance

There
are moments in time that stand out more than others: your first kiss,
a special birthday party, seeing your baby for the first time, an
intimate conversation, a first date, even something as little as
sitting around a dining room table with friends. This is the story of
the moments that stood out after I first laid eyes on Noah Gish. ~
Claire Sawyer
The
city, it used to be a place I loved and missed with an ache in my
gut. It was home. The place where I grew up, where I had fun, where I
had my friends, where life was as good as I knew it to be. Then I was
shipped off to a place that begins the story of how I fell in love,
just to screw everything up. ~ Noah Gish
This
is a contemporary romance about first love and heartbreak.

Literature
is my passion. I like to challenge myself and grow in my writings. I
have many unfinished books and some that have been published under a
different name. Why I chose to do this is because of my writing
growth and the differentiation in genre. I don’t want my future books
to be judged by the inexperience of my past writings. Though I love
those books, they came out of nowhere and it’s apparent in the
writings they were a first draft from someone with no experience.
My
passions include the arts–music, photography, writing, dance,
painting, films, architecture, anything that is creation. There is
not much I don’t like; and if I don’t like it, I at least appreciate
the process that took place to create it. This is something
incorporated in all my books. I’ve known so many talented people, and
truly believe no one is without a talent. Everyone has something
ingrained in them; just naturally gives them the ability to create
new life in the form of art.
In
my spare time, which is basically non-existent between my day job and
writing, I enjoy being out in nature, travelling, spending time with
family, and reading. I read everything, from contemporary to
paranormal, from historical romance to erotica, from history to
science. Learning is something very important to me. I really do
learn something new everyday, my brain storing so much useless to
life-saving information. My brain, the sponge.

Devil’s Cove Manor lures Captain Devlin Limmerick and his

Gloria Palmer has
always done the proper thing expected of her as the daughter of a shipping
tycoon. The approval of her family and friends mean everything. And yet, when
the perfect suitor offers for her… she hesitates.
Colin McDougal has
little use for those living on the fancy side of the trolley tracks. He is too
busy managing the family pub and, in his spare time, writing down the lively
tunes in his head. So, when Miss Palmer asks for his help to prepare for a
music audition, he is flummoxed. What does he know of highbrow music?
But with each practice
session, their feelings for each other grow. When it comes time for Gloria to
make a choice between what is proper and what she desires, will she realize
that if music can cross class lines, it might also be able to harmonize two
hearts.

Snippet:
“Gloria!”
George’s
voice penetrated her thoughts.
His
dark eyes held a glint of amusement. “You dropped your reticule. Was it on
purpose?” he chided as though talking to a child. He picked up her property, brushed
off a trace of mud from the snow and soot tracked in on the plank flooring, and
then handed it back to her. “Are you testing me?”

She
looped the drawstrings of the bag over her wrist and refrained from answering.
He was only teasing her. It hadn’t been on purpose at all. And not a test. Of
course, George would pick it up. She had no doubt as to his attentiveness or
chivalry toward her. He never dropped things, never faltered. He made her feel
at once treasured like a princess and wanting like a child in the same moment.

He’s vowed not to marry
until he reaches Montana. Then he meets her, but she has other ideas.
Zebulon Benton dreams
of going to Montana, but he’s the only son and his mother doesn’t want him to
go and his father needs help with the family store. Unknown to Zeb, his mother
sends off for a mail order bride. After all, if Zeb marries and settles down,
he won’t want to leave.

Enter Amy Gordon from New York. She
appears to be the perfect bride for Zeb. Except she also wants to go to Montana and nothing is going to stop her especially her love for Zeb.
~ Amazon ~ Amazon UK
~ Amazon Canada ~ Amazon Australia ~
Snippets:

1.
Kicking a rock down the road, Zeb tried everything to stop the calling in his heart to
go to Montana. He’d been ten when an old mountain man sat on the bench in front
of their store and told him tales of mountains that reached to the heavens and
a sky so big, blue, and wide that you’d think it was going to come down and
swallow you. Of a place where grass grew higher than a buffalo and gold nuggets
lined the ground just waiting for a feller to come and pick them up.

2.
Lowering his head, Zeb prayed. “God, I know Your Word says to honor your mother and
father. I’m trying. I don’t know how much longer I can stay and work in that
store. It’s not in my heart to do so. Either change me or set me free. Amen.”
He waited but heard nothing more than the screech of the eagle and the water’s gurgling. Both going somewhere, whereas he was headed back to town. With a sigh, he cut short the protest in his soul to
leave and resigned himself to another day in the family store.

3.
Shaking his head, Franklin Benton got up from the table. Towering over Delia, he
wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. “I know how you fear him
leaving. If Zeb goes, we’ll handle it. Together.

4.
The woman waved her over. “Well, don’t just stand there. Do you have your papers?”
Amy strode to her. “What I have is standing before you. I’m young, strong, and have a desire to go west and marry a man. I will make him the perfect wife. I am not afraid of hard work or hardly
anything else.”

5.
Shuffling through some papers, Mrs. Chandler pulled out a piece of stationery decorated
with roses. “I received this request just yesterday. A man named Zebulon in
Colorado is seeking the perfect wife with blond hair.” She ran a finger over
the stationery and frowned. “Though just what kind of man would write on such a
flowery and perfumed paper makes me wonder of his, well, his masculinity.
Perhaps, you would care to take a chance on this,” she looked down. “Zebulon
Benton.”

6.
Gus grew thoughtful. “Once I did. Every now and then the lure of quick riches and
the unknown carefree life of a drifter tickles my soul, but then I think of
Myra and the children. There isn’t anything that compares to holding a woman
you love so much you can’t tell where they end and you start. And the children.
I know they’re loud and wild, but I see them, and I see how life goes on. Yeah,
Zeb, you need to find a good woman to marry.”

In

Banks, likes to mind his own business and isn’t any kind of detective
– until he’s forced to become one by extraordinary circumstances. On
the verge of losing his modest waterfront home to an unscrupulous
developer, Ketch stumbles onto the scene of a crime that might expose
the perpetrator of an unsolved murder and enable him to save not only
his own home, but also the similarly threatened bohemian boatyard
community he’s inexorably drawn into. And in case Plan A fails, he’s
hard at work on a Plan B that’s both laudable and pitiable. Together
with his loyal dog, a salty charter boat captain, the sketchy
denizens of the boatyard, and an alluring scuba diving instructor who
may or may not have a hidden agenda, Ketch struggles to make sense of
his new reality, while trying to save some of the things that really

Snippet:
“Get your hands off my sister!” a voice snarled.
Tristan snapped his head back and stepped away. Alone, Elizabeth wobbled on her feet.
Her brother, Martindale, stalked into view, bristling like an angry dog.
With his hands held out, Tristan faced Martindale. “My lord, we were merely—”
“None of your lies, Barrett.”
Other voices made exclamations of delighted horror. Elizabeth faced a nightmare; most
of the houseguests stared at her, including one of London’s worst gossip, Lady
Einsburgh. Naturally they would assume the worst. Heat crawled up Elizabeth’s
neck and burned her cheeks. She’d never live down the humiliation. Closing her
eyes, she clamped her mouth shut to avoid screaming at the injustice of it all.
She’d only desired a few moments alone with the man she loved. Instead, she’d
been caught in an intimate embrace in a dark garden. Gossipers would spread an
exaggeratedly sordid tale all over England. She’d be utterly ruined.
Immersed in his role of haughty marquis, Martindale snarled, “Consider your second, Barrett. Tomorrow you shall receive my challenge.”
Elizabeth’s heart stalled. A duel? “No, Martindale. You can’t do this.” Elizabeth’s protest
died on her lips as her brother rounded on her.
“Silence! You’ve behaved like a common whore.”
Elizabeth recoiled as if he’d slapped her.
Tristan stiffened. “Hear now, that’s no way to speak to the lady. I give you my word,
it was merely a kiss.”
Martindale let out a scoff. “And I should trust the word of a known rake?” He turned to Elizabeth,
his eyes boring into hers. “You’ve brought disgrace upon the family.”
Tears burned Elizabeth’s eyes. Martindale was right. Only Tristan could save her from
shame. She turned to him, silently pleading for rescue.
Tristan glanced at her, his expression unreadable, before returning his attention to
Martindale. He lowered his voice. “Let us go inside and discuss this in
private.”
“There’s nothing to discuss. You’ve compromised my sister. Choose your weapon.”

But if he survives, will she still care for him? And will Charlie learn to trust in the Lord’s promises?

My Review:

Crossing Lines by Melanie Mason is an entertaining story of a bomber that falls down in enemy territory during WWII. I enjoyed the telling of this story that is not filled with horrible details and atrocities of war. It focuses more on the two men that escape from certain death and follows them to the end of the book. It has suspense and romance but neither is overpowering or becomes routine. Crossing Lines by Melanie Mason is a story that grips you from the beginning and doesn’t let you go. This clean tale will entertain all readers and mostly those who love a good, light war story mixed with romance.
Crossing Lines by Melanie Mason is about two American airmen that have to parachute from their airplane after a bomber excursion into enemy territory. It takes us through their narrow escape from death, the Nazi’s investigation of the crash, the help they find in a beautiful Austrian woman and her mother and their struggles to keep their faith strong in the light of imminent danger. This is an inspiring great read that is sure to become your favorite for years to come.
One thing I noticed with this story is that the pacing was faster than many other WWII stories I have read. I didn’t find any time that the descriptions got on the way of the telling. I enjoyed visualizing the different places and even the characters in my mind. What a super read!

A Chaotic Courtship

Friday, August 19th, 2016

For as long as she can remember, Bethany Swafford has loved reading books. That love of words extended to writing as she grew older and when it became more difficult to find a ‘clean’ book, she determined to write her own. Among her favorite authors is Jane Austen, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Georgette Heyer.

When she doesn’t have pen to paper (or fingertips to laptop keyboard), she can generally be found with a book in hand. In her spare time, Bethany reviews books for a book site called More Than A Review.

Twenty year old Diana Forester, a country bred young woman fears that her inexperience and uncertainties has driven Mr. John Richfield away. If Diana thought that it was difficult in London, courting takes on a whole new aspect when Diana’s younger siblings become involved. She finds herself dealing with her own feelings, her sister, her younger brother, jealous members of a house party, a jilted suitor, and a highwayman as she falls in love with the charming Mr. Richfield.

“You recall I met a Mr. Richfield in
London, shortly after I first arrived?”
“Yes, you mentioned him several
times in your letters.”
Her tone was matter of fact, giving
absolutely nothing away.
“Well…” I hesitated as I sought
the right words. I rubbed my palms against my skirt. “At Aunt Forester’s last
dinner party, Mr. Richfield asked for my permission to come speak to Father.”
For a moment, there was silence.
“What was your answer?” Mother asked, as calm as ever.
I bit my lip and found I could no
longer meet her gaze. “I fear I may have spoken without thinking.” Back when I
had said the words, I had been surprised. Now though, I realized just how
mistaken I had been. “I said it’s always pleasant to have someone new visit.”
“I see. Do you like him?”
Ah, there was the question. “I think
so.” I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “He is respectable, at least
as far as Uncle Forester could discover. No one ever had a word to say against
him. I think he is a good man.”
“And yet, you don’t seem
enthusiastic about marrying him.”
“I have only known him for a few
weeks.” It felt good to be able to talk this out with my mother, now that the
awkwardness of saying the words had passed. If anyone could help me untangle my
feelings, it was her. “Is that enough time to know a person? You knew Papa your
whole life before he proposed.”
Mother’s hand came over mine.
“Diana, look at me.” I lifted my eyes to hers. “You are the only one who can
make this decision. It is your right to refuse an offer you find distasteful.
However, you need to understand it is not likely you will have the opportunity
to travel again and meet other people.”
“I don’t find the offer distasteful.
I just don’t think I know him well enough to accept his hand in marriage.” I
sighed. “I wish I had had the time to know more of him.”
“Perhaps you will.”
I shook my head. That seemed an
impossibility. “Mama, you didn’t see the look on his face when I pretended I
didn’t understand. He was so disappointed. I acted as if I were a senseless,
empty-headed child! What kind of man would pursue me in the face of that?”
“A man who would be understanding.
Someone who would realize your shy nature.”
As soon as I pulled my hand away, I
reached to pour myself some much-needed tea. “There are other, much prettier
girls with better dowries than I,” I remarked, adding just the right amount of
cream and sugar. “I doubt I will ever see him again.”
Of that I was quite certain. I’d had
hours to consider the whole mess. I sipped my tea as I watched my mother’s
face. Her smile was one I couldn’t quite understand. Why did she look so
amused?
“Mr. Richfield is already here.”

Mary Ann, welcome to my blog. Tell us where you were born and where do you live now.

Since my dad was active military, I was born on the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, which is located in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, on the Chesapeake Bay near the mouth of the Patuxent River.  After my father’s honorable discharge, we returned to Yonkers, New York, where I resided until relocating to Omaha, Nebraska, several years ago.

Military family? an honor to know you and my thanks to your family and your Dad.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

My manuscript took about six months to write.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

Concordia is character from The Briton and the Dane trilogy who demanded her own story.  Of course, I had to comply with her request, and she comes of age in her story.

Very nice…What is the title of your book?
