Pay
attention to the signs that are all around you,” Sarah’s mother
used to say. Sarah never listened until her world turned upside down
in the wake of her mother’s death. When sifting through the fiery
ashes, signs begin to appear, giving her the feeling that the
accident was less of an accident and more of foul play. While Sarah
struggles to understand the images haunting her dreams, she finds
herself losing a grip on reality.
Based
on true events, Sarah unravels the mystery surrounding her mother’s
death, and, in doing so, uncovers an internal darkness capable of
murder.

Horses
were one of my first loves, and writing soon followed. As a child, I
spent hours writing poems, and short stories (about horses). My
parents realized that I was horse-obsessed and decided to buy me one
after taking riding lessons for two years. I think they hoped that
all of the hard work, and hours spent mucking stalls would help me
give up this expensive hobby. They were wrong. Writing is still a
passion of mine, although now I primarily write fiction. My first
novel, Red Rock, was published in 2010, and big surprise, there are
horses in it. My second novel, The Three Month Plan was released
August 2013.
Other
Loves: My family, yoga, skincare and makeup, sushi, and raising money
for pediatric cancer. I have two rescue dogs and would have more if
there weren’t zoning restrictions. I’m always trying something
new, as I tend to get bored very easily. Thankfully, my love of
driving around with the gas light on fuels some excitement. I love
novels with happy endings, and am a hopeful romantic. My latest
obsession is browsing Netflix, and I can name all 50 states in
alphabetical order in under 30 seconds. Do I feel a wager coming on?

A
woman out for revenge. America took her husband. America will pay
10,000 fold!

Only
Kramer and his Anatolian Shepherd, Shadow, stand in her way. But
will they be enough to stop her?

The
advent of retirement opened a whole new world to me and now that it
has come to pass, I am turning my artistic bent from graphic design
and illustration to that of writing.
To
date I have published three books, KILLING SOFTLY (an erotic mystery
thriller), and begun an action crime series centered on two
characters, Captain Kramer, USMC and his Anatolian Shepherd dog, Sgt.
Shadow, USMC. Book One of the series is THE PITS, Book Two is YOU CAN
RUN, and at the time of this bibliography rewrite, I am working on
Book Three, LEX TALIONIS.

The
Kramer and Shadow series is an action, adventure, crime thriller
series that encompasses the world and has our two Marines fighting
hard against organized crime at many levels – but always involving
do-or-die confrontations.

My
hope is to establish a fan base for my writing so that my readers can
have an active role in helping me grow and develop as an author in
the years to come. I invite you to join me in this adventure.

What could melt a Heart of Stone?

Friday, February 17th, 2017
Heart
of Stone
by
Rob Buckman
Genre:
SciFi, Action
Mike
Grainger had enough of killing and death, and all he wanted now was
to be left alone in peace and to forget the past, finding a quiet
place, high in the Rocky Mountains where he could live his life.
Maybe now he could put the ghost that haunted him to rest. Here,
death and destruction were forces of nature, something he understood,
and respected, yet even as he watched a storms moving across the
mountains another storm swept towards him, one that had nothing to do
with the weather.
To
Roland Hawkins’, his world revolved around money and power, and
gaining a fortune that nothing could destroy. To him, disposing of
people who stood in his way meant nothing. He felt no remorse when he
ordered people killed to fulfill his ambition. Now he wanted an
insignificant section of land high in the Rockies, and to consummate
his latest business deal he’d arranged the death of the previous
owner. To his consternation, the land slipped from his grasp before
his agents could obtain it, and due to poor judgment and timing the
land was purchased by another. In fury, he ordered the property be
obtained by any means necessary, thinking his power and money would
protect him from anything. Nowhere in his calculation did he consider
the new owner, Mike Grainger, thinking him nothing more than some
local hick to be disposed of as quickly as possible. Bribery,
extortion, and murder were tools to Roland Hawkins and used to
justify his ambition. Mike Grainger used death and destruction as a
tool to keep what was his. To him, life and death were meaningless,
his own included. It would have all been so easy if Kat Ballard
hadn’t stepped into the picture. She gave him a reason to live, to
care, and pushed the stakes even higher. Now, it was not just a
question of fighting a pack of hired killers on their trail, but
staying one jump ahead of them. He now had to consider someone else’s
life, as well as trying to discover why Roland Hawkins wanted his
land so badly.
Together
they fought the mountain, the mercenaries, the elements, and each
other in a wild death hunt over and under the mountains, finding love
and losing it. Now he was mad. Roland Hawkins would pay a high price
for his ambition: his life. The hunted would now become the hunter.
No quarter asked, or given.

The
Gray Chronicals 1
by
Rob Buckman
For
Mike Gray, his life was a series of mysteries and unanswered
question. Even the man who raised him, his paternal grandfather, was
a question mark. Beyond the love, understanding, and nurturing lay
the unanswered question of why a disgraced ex-Royal Naval Admiral
would pulled himself out of a bottle and take upon himself to bring a
one year old child home as raise him as his own. The question of why
his family, the Tregallion clan, refused to come to his aid went
unanswered. Even so, between them they build a life for themselves
until the fateful day he died. After that, Mike fled across the
stars, swearing he would never again take the responsibility for
another person’s death. Fate and destiny had other ideas, plunging
him into one situation after the other where he had to take command,
and decide the fate of others. With war on the horizon, and the
future of the free stars hanging in the balance, Mike reluctantly
accepted his destiny, and the part he must play. For better or worse,
he would find the answered to his question, and make those
responsible pay a terrible price.

The
Drake Chronicles Book 1
For
General Scott Drake the attack on four American cities by religious
fanatic using nuclear weapons destroyed not only US cities, but his
life as he knew it. They say that vengeance is a dish best served
cold, but to the men and woman who went with him over the border to
deliver that vengeance, it was dish served hot, and out of the barrel
of a gun and cannon, and from the air. Yet in victory came defeat as
he found three hundred years later in the world he woke up in. One
far different from the one he’d left behind when he went into cold
sleep. Now he had to find a place in this strange new world, one
without the means to wage war against an alien race raping the planet
of its young people. First, he had to build an army, navy and air
force from scratch while fending off attacks from the aliens and the
secret government that wanted to put him and his men back into cold
sleep or the grave.

I

am a 65 year old retired mechanical engineer, ex-soldier, ex-sailor,
have mined and prospected for gold in the Amazon jungle in places no
white man has ever been, and generally tried to be a ‘jack of all
trades’ and turn my hand to many things. This came in handy when I
started to write, as I could draw on many different experiences, both
positive and negative to build my stories and characters. To me,
writing is similar to another activity that men do alone… no, not
that, I meant fishing (lol), in that it gives your mind a chance to
wander down strange pathways, and try to answer the question ‘What
if?’. Like many self published authors did before me, I posted my
stories before I had the means, or readership to edit or proofread
the stories, for which you have my apologies, and have attempted to
correct that oversight.  Like any good author, I try to write an
entertaining story of interest to a particular group of reader, i.e.
Sci-fi fans, and not to win an English essay contest, composition
award, or a spelling bee. With luck I have achieved that end, and beg
your indulgence, and hope you will overlook any irritating errors you
still may come across while reading and not let them detract from the
your overall enjoyment of the storytelling.
At
the moment I am working on Book Three of both ‘Echo of Tomorrow’
and ‘He Who Dares’.  During my ‘spare’ time I’m also
working on several short stories and plotting out sequels to a couple
of my other short stories.

A REFERENCE TO MURDER
by Kym
Roberts

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Pub
Date: 5/16/2017

SOMETIMES YOU GET WHAT YOU NEED .
. .

Charli Rae Warren is back home in Hazel
Rock, Texas, spending her time reading, collecting, and selling
books—at least, the ones that don’t get eaten first by her
father’s pet armadillo. Running the family bookstore is a demanding
job, but solving murders on the side can be flat out dangerous…
The Book Barn is more than just a shop,
it’s a part of the community—and Charli is keeping busy with a
fundraising auction and the big rodeo event that’s come to town.
That includes dealing with the Texas-sized egos of some celebrity
cowboys, including Dalton Hibbs, a blond, blue-eyed bull rider who
gets overly rowdy one night with the local hairdresser . . . and soon
afterward, disappears into thin air.
Dalton’s
brother also vanished seven years ago—and Charli is thrown about
whether Dalton is a villain or a victim. After a close call with an
assailant wielding a branding iron (that plays havoc with her hair),
and some strange vandalism on her property, she’s going to have to
team up with the sheriff to untangle this mystery, before she gets
gored . . .

Three career paths resonated for Kym
Roberts during her early childhood: detective, investigative
reporter, and . . .nun. Being a nun, however, dropped by the wayside
when she became aware of boys—they were the spice of life she
couldn’t deny. In high school her path was forged when she took her
first job at a dry cleaners and met every cop in town, especially the
lone female police officer in patrol. From that point on there was no
stopping Kym’s pursuit of a career in law enforcement. Kym followed
her dream and became a detective who fulfilled her desire to be an
investigative reporter, with one extra perk—a badge. Promoted to
sergeant, Kym spent the majority of her career in SVU. She retired
from the job reluctantly when her husband dragged her kicking and

The Dragons of Alsace Farm are loose… Dementia & Alzheimers

Thursday, December 1st, 2016

Agnes, an 82-y-o French WWII survivor will teach Noah and Tayte the greatest lessons of their lives:

The strength of tested love.

The promise of new love.

The power of family love.

And the courage each requires.

In need of his own redemption, Noah Carter finally confronts his childhood hero, the once-beloved uncle who betrayed him. Instead of vengeance, he offers forgiveness, also granting Uncle John a most curious request—for Noah to work on the ramshackle farm of Agnes Deveraux Keller, a French WWII survivor with dementia.

Despite all Agnes has lost, she still has much to teach Noah. But the pair’s unique friendship is threatened when Tayte, Agnes’s estranged granddaughter, arrives to claim a woman whose circumstances and abilities are far different from those of the grandmother she once knew.
Items hidden in Agnes’s attic raise painful questions about Tayte’s dead parents, steeling Tayte’s determination to save Agnes, even if it requires her to betray the very woman she came to save, and the secret her proud grandmother has guarded for seventy years.
The issue strains the fragile trust between Tayte and Noah, who now realizes Tayte is fighting her own secrets, her own dragons. Weighed down by past guilt and failures, he feels ill-equipped to help either woman, until he remembers Agnes’s lessons about courage and love. In order to save Agnes, the student must now become the teacher, helping Tayte heal—for Agnes’s sake, and for his.

The author provides us with excellent reading, especially if you know or care for a person with dementia. I have one, and many things in this book match what I have seen and done. Still, I was surprised at the insights on how to deal with people with this problem, or how to make them more responsive to your needs. I learned a few things in the pages of this book that I found interesting and it is a great read. The story of forgiveness of oneself is viewed in this story and helps readers find strength beyond their own.
Tate is a lovely woman that doesn’t know what she wants until she re-unites with her grandmother. Her mother had told her, years before, that her grandmother was dead. Agnes is the only person who has made her feel normal and Tate wants to reconnect with her.
Noah, on the other hand, has many ghosts of his own and has finally come to see his uncle, who caused him great sorrow when he was ten years younger. He left home and never looked back. Now he is back and finds his uncle almost on the door of death itself.
Agnes has a farm that needs great care, as much as she and the animal’s do. She forgets things and she loves the new guy who helps her on the farm. Noah see Agnes up close and identifies himself with her. He figures out ways to help her return to the present and be active in her everyday life.
All is well until Noah meets Tate and a collision course is drawn between them and Agnes.

crem-my-review

The Path of Destiny by Mike Shelton is an interesting high fantasy tale for Young Adults. It contains magic and great characters. I enjoyed this story of two best friends who just graduated and are ready to conquer the world. Then, one of them is chosen by a magic sword, a beautiful horse and can do magic… all in a kingdom that condemns magic users. The upper class condemns the outsiders or those who labor in the earth as a different kind of people. There are mentions of other kingdoms with magic, but the one the characters are from condemns it. It also condemns the love between a upper class member with a person of the lower class. This is the problem that the main character has, for he loves a farmer’s daughter.
The story is a good fantasy tale and interesting read. The author takes the reader, together with the characters, on a trip of self-discovery that will change their lives.
The story is told in a narrated manner, but has some dialogue that moves it forward at a good pace. It is the result of a good imagination.
The Path of Destiny by Mike Shelton is a great reading choice for all pre-teens and teens and is a clean story. They will find something interesting and entertaining throughout the book.

The Suspect’s Daughter…

Saturday, July 23rd, 2016

Summer Banner-2

Donna Hatch, author of the best-selling “Rogue Hearts Series,” has won writing awards such as The Golden Quill and the International Digital Award. A hopeless romantic and adventurer at heart, she is a sought-after workshop presenter, and juggles multiple volunteer positions and her six children. A native of Arizona who recently transplanted to the Pacific Northwest, she and her husband of over twenty years are living proof that there really is a happily ever after.

Author-3
Q&A With the Author:

  1. What inspired your book?

The murder plot in The Suspect’s Daughter was inspired by a true event in England known as the Cato Street Conspiracy, which thankfully, was averted largely in part due to an undercover Bow Street Runner. This event happened in 1820, the same year my book takes place. When I read of the Cato Street Conspiracy, I knew it had to be Grant’s story. Obviously I took some creative license, but the suspense plot in my book strongly parallels the real one. As far as the romantic plot, Grant is so emotionally closed off, as readers of my other books already know, that I knew it would be fun to pair him with a spunky, vivacious, glass-half-full kind of girl who is emotionally strong enough to not only challenge him and match him wit for wit, but with a big enough heart to see through his defensive barriers into the lonely, vulnerable man hiding underneath.

  1. How do you spend your free time?

Free time? I don’t think I have ever had any free time. I’m not even sure what that means. When I’m too mentally or emotionally tired to write, and if my family doesn’t need me for anything pressing, I read. Reading recharges me in a way that nothing else can. I enjoy going for long walks, watching old movies–especially adaptations of Jane Austen novels and romantic comedies–and playing games with my family. I’ve become pretty good at ping pong (table tennis) and my husband is a ruthless opponent.

A Manhattan Murder Mystery

Saturday, July 16th, 2016
July 16: DEATH UNSCRIPTED: A Trudy Genova Manhattan Mystery by Author Marni Graff
                                                   Summer Banner
About the book:
“Trudy Genova has the best job a nurse could have: working as a medical consultant for a movie studio in Manhattan means no more uniforms, bedpans or white shoes. She’s working with a womanizing actor, teaching him to fake a heart attack, when he dies right in the middle of taping–but not before pointing his finger accusingly at Trudy. When detectives view Trudy as a suspect, she swings into action to clear her name, to the chagrin of NYPD detective Ned O’Malley. Soon the bodies mount up and Trudy realizes she’s put herself in jeopardy. Based on the author’s real work experience as a medical consultant, this is the book her mentor and friend, P D James, insisted she write.”
 cover-2
My review:

Trudy is a nurse working as a medical consultant for a TV studio where different movies or drama pieces are filmed. She teaches the actors what to do when a medical emergency happens, the doctors how to act during the emergency, and the director what terminology should be used in such emergencies. She can also use her computer to fake the signals on the machines that are attached to an actor portraying a patient in the hospital. She loves her work until one of the actors drops dead during filming. This happened right after she gave him eyes drop to make him look like he was having a heart attack. The problem arises when she becomes the main suspect of poisoning him.

Death Unscripted a Trudy Genova Manhattan Mystery by Author Marni Graff is good-paced murder mystery that will likely become your favorite. I enjoyed the twists, bodies, secrets and the light romance in this story. The characters are a great bunch of people, and the bad guys follow suit. You will find this murder mystery easy to read, yet you won’t guess who did it. What I didn’t like was the unnecessary swearing in it. There wasn’t much, but it certainly didn’t move the story or add to the telling–so why put them there?

 The Interview

Tell us about your writing – What genre do you prefer to write?

I write a variety of genres, including mystery, young adult urban fantasy, and dystopian science fiction. What drives any genre for me is characterization. The newness of any world and the excitement of any plot will only be as good as the characters they are built around.

What books, stories, other publications that you’ve written are your personal favorites?

In the 1990’s Ballantine Books published my series of culinary mysteries set in Houston, Texas. The Neil Marshall series includes If Wishes Were Horses, A Whisper of Rage (nominated for a Shamus Award), People in Glass Houses, A Catered Christmas (the one I most enjoyed writing), and Dead Man’s Broth. These novels are loosely based on the ten years I worked as a chef for a high-end caterer. It was hard work and the hours were long but I was exposed to a side of society I’d probably not have otherwise seen. I have recently attained the rights of this series from Ballantine and I’m particularly excited that I’m reissuing the books, on the twentieth anniversary of the series initial publication, through La Nouvelle Atlantide out of New Orleans. In fact, revisiting the mysteries triggered some fond memories and inspired me to pen a new Neil Marshall short story, the first in roughly fifteen years.

It’s my passion for the environment that sparked me to write The Wastelanders, a dystopian-clifi published in both e-book and paperback by Reputation Books. I’m represented by Kimberley Cameron of Kimberley Cameron & Associates Literary Agency. By the way, having an agent and a publisher sounds good but I still do my own marketing and function as an indie.

Recently the Muse has kindly allowed me to tap into that creative magic and pen a young adult urban fantasy titled Son of a Kitchen Witch. This is a coming of age story with a good v. evil backdrop. I loved writing this book and I think it shows. It will be out later this summer. Last fall I wrote a related story titled The Darkest Night of the Year. It appeared in the Echoes of Winter anthology, edited by Laurie Starkey.

I have published shorter works, most notably a story in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine.

Anything new coming up?

I have also come out with a short story, Black Silence, where I introduce a new character, who will appear in the sequel to The Wastelanders. The sequel, which I’m currently working on, is titled Rise of the Time Witch.

What color would you wear if you had only one choice?

Blue. Think of George Harrison in his denim shirt and blue jeans crossing Abby Road.

Describe your dream writing spot.

A cabin in the country with a bay window looking out over a verdant forest. In fact, one summer I wrote one of my mysteries in the mountains of Colorado in just this setting. Coffee and stories after an early morning trail run sounds like heaven to me.

If you could have dinner with any of your characters, which ones would you choose? What food would you serve?

Bear, my renegade from The Wastelanders, and C. J. McDaniels from my mysteries. We would have oxtail soup and a few tall pints of Black Silence, a particularly potent dark beer brewed on the Houston Rim. Undoubtedly the beer would loosen their tongues so I could spend hours listening to these kindred spirits swap war stories–both literally and figuratively. I can already hear how C. J. would combat the political rule of the heavy-handed oligarchy called The Water Cartel, to which Bear’s response would be, “Marvelous.”

My Review: 5 stars

Where Shadows Dwell Book 1 by Author Juliannne Kelsch is a murder-mystery-romance with abuse. I enjoyed this story all the way to the end. It is a sweet romance that includes a mystery, many bodies, and two people who are trying to make it through life with their hearts and their bodies intact.

As fate would have it, they find each other under the most interesting circumstances. However, they both have to trust in each other before they can let their hearts be healed by the love from the other.

But what can you do when the twists keep making you break up? Read this book and find out.

The characters in this story are lovable, at least all the ones you should love; and hateful all the ones that should be hated. This entire story will keep you interested to the end, and leave you feeling warm and cozy.

This is a refreshingly clean book with violence, not to descriptive or gory. I would recommend it to adults and young adults alike. It will help you define rules that you should live your life by if you have common sense. It’s not preachy, but teaches good morals; a thing that should never be out of fashion. What a great job, read away.

I received a copy of the book from Loving The Book in exchange for an honest review.

Window of death a paranormal or Mystery?

Tuesday, April 5th, 2016

My review: 5 stars

I enjoyed this exhilarating tale of CIA and FBI agents written by D. J. Effort. Window of Dead, has a large array of characters that fight for the good and some for the bad. It is a fast paced book with twist at every turn and some awesome main characters with special powers.

51mvcSVEWTL._SX326_BO1,204,203,200_

Lucy James is a CIA agent and she is the best. However, she has had nightmares from age six months until now; twenty-nine years old. Finally, her friends, all agents, help her figure out what happened to her mother who was killed in her presence. That should heal her, but the problem is that all clues point to her father killing her mother. Besides that, she is plagued by people following her and trying to kill her at every turn. Terrorism is rampart, and coyotes bringing illegals into the USA along with drugs is too. What is she to do and in whom is she to confide?

This is a great tale for those who like spies, and all readers in general who want to escape everyday humdrums. This book is clean and I like it even more for that. I received a copy for an honest review.
