Magic, unique creatures, strong characters

Kevin, well us where you were born and where do you live now.

I was born in Lehi, Utah and currently live within a stone’s throw of where I was born.  However, that current residence came by way of Arizona, North Carolina, and Brazil before coming back to Lehi, Utah again.

Kevin L Nielsen

What makes you passionate about writing?

Coming up with new and interesting worlds, ideas, and creations is what keeps me passionate about writing.  I’ve been writing novels since I was 11 years old and it is the one thing I still do now, 16 years later, that I did then.  Writing fuels my passion for writing, which in turn fuels more writing.  It’s one of the reasons why I have so many different projects going at any one time.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

The first draft of my most recent manuscript, STORMS, was written in 72 days.  Its predecessor, SANDS, which is the first book in the Sharani Series, was written in about 96 days, if I remember correctly.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

Two things.  The first were two people at the LTUE (Life, the Universe, and Everything) Symposium on 2014.  Johnny Worthen and Shallee MacArthur.  They talked about (more…)

Teyla Rachel Branton interview:

Saturday, June 15th, 2013

Q: Teyla it is so good to have you here this week. What is the title of your book?
A: Tell Me No Lies (under the name Rachel Branton) and The Change (under the name Teyla Branton).

Q: How interesting. What genre does your book fall under?
A: Tell Me No Lies is contemporary romantic suspense and The Change (Unbounded series) is contemporary urban fantasy.

Q: Love the combination genres. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Tell Me No Lies: With her trust fund in jeopardy, recently single Tessa Crawford enters into a relationship with a gorgeous neighbor that soon turns into something much more passionate — and dangerous — than either of them could have imagined. The Change: By fluke of a recessive gene, Erin Radkey has become Unbounded, a nearly immortal being with paranormal abilities. A week earlier she was considering a marriage proposal; now she contemplates the best way to stay alive. (Oops, two sentences! LOL)

Q: No problem they sound awesome. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
A: Both of these novels took about five months to write.

Q: Wow that it isn’t much. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
A: The Change is very similar to urban fantasy by Sandy Williams and Patricia Briggs.

Q: Good to know. Who or what inspired you to write this book?
A: Tell Me No Lies was inspired by a woman I met at church one day and the crazy way she met her husband. It’s NOT their story, though, just inspired by it. The Change was inspired by my love of the paranormal. My Unbounded people are a mix between Highlanders and the X-men.

Q: We love Highlanders and X-man. 🙂 What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

A: The Cure, a sequel to The Change will be release on April 12, 2013.

Q: Tell us where you were born and where you live now.
A: I was born in Provo Utah and I still live in Utah Valley.

Q: Do you have a favorite character, why?
A: My heroines are always my favorite, especially when I’m writing in first person. I feel very close to them and I love to explore their strengths and flaws. So in this case Tessa (Lies) and Erin (The Change) are my favorite.

Q: What kind of impact do you expect your works to have on the reader’s lives?
A: My main objective as an author is to help people escape their everyday lives and go into an exciting world where they can lose themselves and forget their problems for a while. I want to sweep people away in imagination.

Q: Do you have a website?
A: Yes! And people can go there to read sample chapters or to sign up to hear about new releases:

Q: Very nice. Where else can we find your book?

A: On Amazon both in print and in ebook:
Tell Me No Lies:

The Change (Unbounded):

Teyla it’s been a pleasure. We wish you the best at home and in your writing career.
