Lathenyl and Katelynn have a true love. Katelynn, a human, learns about elfs when she meets Lathenyl. She falls in love with their ways and makes the choice of wanting to live with them forever. Their gentle, intelligent ways are hard to resist. When Katelynn and Lathenyl end up pregnant they are shocked. Mixed marriage between the races rarely makes it possible to produce offspring.
