Robert Alain de Bellencombre has been granted what every man wants: a
rich English estate in exchange for his valiant service at the Battle
of Hastings. To claim this reward, the Norman knight must wed the
estate’s Saxon heiress. Most men would leap at such an opportunity,
but for Alain, who broke his vow to his dying mother by failing to
protect his youngest brother in battle, it means facing more easily
broken vows. But when rumors of rampant thievery, dangerous beasts,
and sorcery plaguing a neighboring estate reach his ears, nothing
will make him shirk duty to king and country when people’s lives
stand at risk. He assumes the guise of a squire to scout the land,
its problems, and its lady.
Kendra of Edgarburh has been granted what no woman wants: a forced
marriage to an enemy who may be kith or kin to the man who murdered
her beloved brother. Compounding her anguish is her failure to awaken
the miraculous healing gift bequeathed by their late mother in time
to save his life. Although with his dying breath, he made her promise
to seek happiness above all, Kendra vows that she shall find neither

Her mission: discover the identity of the fabled Shadow tech Goddess, a being who does not exist. All other considerations, including her possible death, are secondary.
But, Kat is guided by higher powers, by merciful hands that feed her, clothe her and whisper in her ear. As she watches the sun rise for the first time, she recalls their words: “Be strong,” they said. “You have much to live for.

Interview with Author Ren Garcia Answering as Kat, the 1st Countess of the House of Belmont-South Tyrol:
1. When you walk into a room what do you
notice first? Second? Oh, you’re going to think I’m weird or
something, but the wallpaper. I just LOVE wallpaper. I like to look at it, and
I like to touch it, especially if it’s padded wallpaper like we have in the
Chalk House. Hehe, you know, I even like licking
the wallpaper when nobody’s watching. I guess countesses aren’t supposed to do
that sort of thing. But, yeah, I like the taste of the glue. The second thing I
look for is a bathroom. I love sitting in bathrooms. Yeah, I’m mental, I guess.
2. How would you change the world? The
things around you? The people around you? I don’t know—I’m
still pretty new to the world and how it works. I guess I just want everybody
to love each other. I’ve spent such a long time not being loved, I want to make
up for it now. Love all around, everybody happy. Let’s dance and love each
other. Why not?
3. How do you learn best? On
the floor, after lunch. I love sitting on the floor. I feel all caged up in a
chair. Yeah, I’m weird, right? But, that’s how G taught me to read mostly, us
sitting nose to nose on the floor. I think I’ve thrown more chairs than have
actually sat in them. Chairs are great for throwing, but, they kind of hurt my
4. What are your goals in life? You’re
making my head hurt, haha. I just want to be a good wife and a good mom once we
have kids. That might sound simple, I guess, but when you’ve lived underground
under the Black Hat’s heel for most of your life, it’s the simple things you
crave. Oh—I guess I want to master my Shadow tech too. I’m trying, I practice
all the time, and I’m trying not to cheat using NatalZ of Mund’s ‘squash data’
we got in Vain. That’s cheating. I want to figure out how to make StT’s, like
NatalZ could. But, it’s really, really hard. Hey, you’re not a Black Hat are
5. What unusual hobbies or interests do you
have? (Kat blushes) Well, ok, I’ll just tell you. I love tying G up. I’ll tie him to
anything. Have sex isn’t the same unless he’s trussed-up like a Nether Day
goose. Umm, that doesn’t freak you out or anything, does it? I mean, it’s all
in good fun. I’m sure other countesses tie their guys up—look what they’re
missing out on. I love my G … but I really, really, really love him all tied
6. What are you most afraid of? Well,
I really don’t like being shut into confined spaces. It’s not something I like
talking about much. I just don’t like small spaces.
7. If you had one wish, what would it be? (Kat
tears up) My Sisters … Bird, Walker, even Wheel. I’d give anything to have them
back. Really miss them. I’m sorry, I need to step away for a moment …
8. What do you like best about yourself? I
like my hair. Yeah. I like the color and I like my temples freshly shaved. I
like how my hair whips around when it’s windy. I could sit in the boudoir for
hours letting them comb my hair. I used to not like my hair color, but, as few
other people seem to have it, I guess it makes me stand out a little.
9. What do you like least about yourself? I’m
too short. When I want to kiss my G, I’ve got to stand on something, or he’s
got to stoop. I loved how tall Walker was, that’s how I’d like to be: longer
legs, way tall, my head in the clouds.
do you think other people think of you? I have no
idea. G likes me, his sister Lyra likes
me, and the other 28 sisters are coming around. I guess that’s fine with me for
now. The people I love, love me back, and that’s great. The people in Tyrol
seem cool, I don’t have issues with anybody. I know I’m probably not what they
were expecting as far as a countess and all, but, what you see is what you get.
I’m happy, and that’s all that matters.

Grace has given up on romance, on almost everything, since Rick Fleming betrayed her faith in him five years ago. Given her constant struggle with bad luck (her friend Murphy), being insanely accident prone, and having been the target of endless ridicule growing up, she has no reason to trust anyone. Rick made some mistakes as a boy, and as a young man, his worst was hurting Grace Evans. His heart still belongs to her, even if she doesn’t know it. Unfortunately, in the last confrontation between them, she demanded he never speak to her again. Now, Grace’s best friend (and Rick’s sister) Hannah has invited her to a ten-day summer work-vacation to babysit Hannah’s teen cousins. A palatial cabin, a patio boat on the lake, and all the comforts of the rich and famous at their fingertips? A vacation made in heaven. At least until they arrive and Grace finds Rick there. And neither can leave. Rick’s car is in pieces in the garage, and Grace forgot her driver’s license at home. How will Grace survive it? Can she find a way to forgive? Can Rick learn to take responsibility for his past mistakes? And even if they succeed, what will they do when Rick’s most recent wantabe girlfriend shows up on their doorstep, determined to make Rick hers?

They were stained in a few places with car grease, thick from working out, and scarred across both palms from the accident. The accident. His badge of shame.
He wondered how differently life would have gone five long years ago if he’d taken Sean’s dare to kiss Grace. Would she have hated him more for doing it than not doing it? Would she have accused him of using her for a thrill instead of showing her how he truly felt? He feared both as much as he feared showing his feelings to Sean. Still, was there something—anything—he could have done that would have changed that awful night?
Grace’s clumsiness annoyed Scott and gave Sean another reason to tease her, which upset Rick. Everybody had clumsy moments. Even clumsy days. After all, he smacked himself in the face with a wrench this afternoon and had to chase it across the garage floor before he snagged it. He was the klutz, not Grace.
He sighed, wondering if what Hannah often told him was right. Sometimes angels came along and, in the strangest ways, guided God’s children in the right direction. Coming here had been a last-minute decision, the thought jumping into his head out of the middle of nowhere. But maybe this week might turn out to be a gift from Heaven. If he could get past Grace Evans’ defenses, he might be able to earn her forgiveness, even if he wasn’t able to find a way into her heart.

Matt Mitchell was having the worst summer imaginable. Matt’s misery
started when a drunk driver killed his mother. Then his father moved
him and his twin sister to the small town of Hawthorne in rural

that the recluse who lives in the ‘haunted house” next door is
none other than Old Lady Hawthorne, the town’s infamous witch and

when something quite unexpected happens. Old Lady Hawthorne’s niece
and her three children arrive, and Matt meets Gerallt.

everybody is against them, it is tough being a lifeliner, as Nash
Bannon found out. Lifeliners are ordinary people…almost. They can
draw energy from another person; they live longer and are smarter.
Scientists claim that Western high-pressure living and growing
sterility in developed countries has triggered the rise of
lifeliners, and homo sapiens will replaced by homo renata within ten
generations. So, what’s not to like about lifeliners? Protest
marches by extremist groups, riots, attacks against lifeliners,
repressive laws enacted by governments everywhere, were portents of a
dark future. Young, successful, Nash Bannon did not like what was
going on, but he thought he had the world at his feet and life in
Australia was good, provided no one found out he was a lifeliner. A
chance encounter with Cariana during a lunchbreak develops into
something he considered important. The Australian government calls a
snap election, and Nash stands as a Senate candidate on the Lifeliner
Party ticket. Unless lifeliners rise up and fight for their rights,
they can expect sterilization, incarceration, and possible
extermination as democracies everywhere turn into autocracies. To
survive, the Lifeliner Party must employ the same dirty tricks the
government used against them, but they were not prepared for what
