Rita Chapman author of Lost in Egypt a Interview

Rita, tell us where you were born and where do you live now.

I was born in North London and moved to Australia in my early twenties.  I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland – a beautiful area.

Sound beautiful. What makes you passionate about writing?

What makes anyone passionate about anything?  I think it’s in your blood.
You are right… How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

It took nearly a year – I would write when it was raining and leave it for weeks at a time.
Who or What inspired you to write this book?

Taking to heart the advice you should write about things you know, I was inspired by a holiday in Egypt and my own time working in the Australian Parliament.  Egypt is such a unique place where new tombs are still being discovered today, so it seemed to be a very plausible place in which to base my story.  Anna works for an Australian Member of Parliament and the first chapter gives an insight into what it was like working at Parliament House in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s.
Interesting. What is the title of your book?

Missing_in_Egypt_Cover

Missing in Egypt.

Could you give us a back cover blurb?

Missing in Egypt will intrigue you with its twists and turns, romance and adventure as well as its insights into Australian and Egyptian cultures.  Australian Anna Davies travels to Egypt with her lover to help him search for his brother, who disappeared whilst on holiday.  The Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel and the Temple of Karnak are amongst the settings for their search.  Will they be able to track him down and find him alive – or is Ramy already dead?  What tragedies await Anna and Kareem as they come closer to retracing his footsteps?  This fast-paced action plot will keep you guessing until the end.
Really interesting. What genre does your book fall under?

Romance – it’s a romantic travel mystery.

Do you have a favorite character, why?

It would have to be Anna, around whom the story is written.
What kind of impact do you expect your works to have in the reader’s lives?

I hope it might inspire people who are thinking about holidaying in Egypt to take the trip.  Unfortunately Egypt is undergoing traumatic times at the moment so it would need to be when it is safe to travel there again.  They desperately need the tourist dollar.  It might also encourage a holiday in Australia.  For anyone who has already been to Egypt I am sure it will invoke many memories as it includes descriptions of famous sites and temples.
Very nice. What else might pique the reader’s interest in your book?

I think the fact that, whilst it is purely fiction, it includes descriptions of actual places and has several twists in the storyline.
