Mary, how long have you been writing?
I have been writing for almost 3 years. My first book was published in May of 2012. Since then I have published twenty-five books. Of that twenty-five books, two are young adult and eight are children’s books.
Very nice. Tell us where you were born and where do you live now.
I was born in St. Francisville, LA, raised in Clinton,LA and currently reside in Morgan City, LA.
How do you know the idea is good enough to write a book about it?
Once I take the outline for my book and begin writing, I truly have no idea which direction the book will go. I let the words flow onto the paper, and once I am about about halfway done, the genre comes to me.
Wow! Â Who has made the greatest difference for you as a writer?
When I did decide to finally start writing, I remembered how Anne Rice’s books drew me in from the very beginning. While reading her books you could envision the surroundings. With Stephen King, he opened up my imagination. Patricia Cornwell and James Patterson kept me intrigued with their suspenseful thrillers. Lisa Jackson and Heather Graham created my obsession with paranormal books.
Most of all though, I have to thank Karmin Dahl for all of the pointers and information she has shared with me to help strengthen the plots and characters.
We all need mentors. What is the name of your book?
Sounds interesting. Tell us more about it. Perhaps a back cover blurb.
Josie is determined to find the vampire who “turned†her a century ago. What she didn’t expect to find was a blood trafficking ring. With the help of Tyler, her Rougarou boyfriend, can they stop this injustice or does the corruption run deeper than she feared?
Perhaps, along the way Tyler will find the voodoo swamp witch that condemned him to this cursed life almost a century ago.
Is there a book trailer for your book?
The book trailer will be coming out soon, please watch for it on my YouTube channel, (YouTube – http://goo.gl/ErM1M6)
Can’t wait to see it. Do you have a favorite character, why?
As much as I love Josie, the vampire, I prefer Tyler, the Rougarou. While Josie has not forgiven her “Masterâ€, Tyler has come to accept his curse. Tyler has such intense passion for Josie that he sees no one else. He would give his own life to protect her from harm.
What kind of impact do you expect your works to have in the readers’ lives?
It is my wish that through my writing, I keep the Louisiana folktales and Cajun French language alive.
Do you have any advice for authors trying to break into the industry?
Don’t be afraid to put feelings into your work or to let your imagination run free.
What are your new years goals?
I hope to finish at least 3 of the outlines started.
