This historical novel is Jason Lloyd Morgan’s The Mirror of the Soul

Jason, how long have you been writing?

My first short story was written when I was in 4th grade. However, I have dyslexia and can’t spell for the life of me. Technology has allowed me to do what I haven’t been able to do before. My first novel came out in 2010.

Tell us where you were born and where do you live now.

I was born in Laramie, Wyoming, though I spent most of my younger life in Orem, Utah. I now live in North Carolina.

Nice. How do you know the idea is good enough to write a book about it? When an idea won’t leave me alone—it keeps coming back to my thoughts, I know that is something I have to write about.

Who has made the greatest difference for you as a writer? This may sound conceited, but the answer is myself. Writing takes a lot of self-discipline and believing in yourself.

So true…What is the name of your book?

I have six novels, and the one featured in this interview is “The Mirror of the Soul.”

The historical one. 🙂 Tell us more about it. Perhaps a back cover blurb?

Here is the blurb: “In the Dordogne region of France after The Hundreds’ Year War, there are rumors of an object falling from the sky. Soon after, the abbot at the Abbé St. Pierre announces that he has been given a gift from God: a large diamond that glows when it is touched. The diamond divine, as it is come to be known, can cure the sick, wipe away people’s sins (past, present and future) and even grant eternal life—for a price.”

Interesting…Is there a book trailer for your book?

Not for this one. The book is based on a song by musician Chris de Burgh (of “The Lady in Red” fame.) There are videos of the song, but they take a different view of the song than I did.

Do you have a favorite character, why?

My favorite character is Christophe. He’s sort of the everyman who is stuck doing a job he hates because it is expected of him while he would rather be creating art.

What kind of impact do you expect your works to have in the reader’s lives?

I would like them to think about what is truly important in life—what really matters.

Do you have any advice for authors trying to break into the industry?

Lots of people will tell you that you can’t do it. Tell yourself you can. Also, understand it is a long process that takes years.

What are your new years goals?

At the start of 2014, it was to finish my MFA in Creative Writing (which I’ve done!) and to release two more books. My book, “Bring Down the Rain” just came out. I should have another one come out in the autumn, but I’m keeping the title secret for now.

Where can we find your book?

Ebook versions are available on Kindle, Nook and Smashwords. Print versions are available on Amazon.
