A cross between Lord of the Rings and Wheel of Time series?

Robin Glassey tell us where you were born and where do you live now.

I was born in a little town called Pickering, located just outside of Toronto, Canada. I moved to Utah back in 1994 and still enjoy small town living with my husband and four children.

Robin, what makes you passionate about writing?

I have never been a morning person and getting up to get the day started has always been a challenge for me. But since I have started writing I look forward to getting up because I have so many ideas and thoughts to get down, so many scenes waiting to be edited and several stories waiting in the wings to be written once my current projects are completed.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

It took me four years to write my first manuscript, but that first draft ended up being divided into a novella and two books.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

My husband and I are foster parents and we have adopted three out of our four boys through foster care. Not all foster placements lead to adoption, in fact, many lead to reunification. I was dealing with the heartache of a foster daughter who returned to her birthfather when we had hoped she would stay with our family. I began writing as a means of dealing with the difficult emotions as a result of this loss. I wrote for nine months and then this foster daughter
returned to us again. I put my writing on hold while we took care of her. She then returned to her birthmother and my heart broke a second time. My writing intensified as I struggled to understand the judge’s decision to send her back again. I felt helpless and began to write about a princess named Tika who had to leave the only home she had ever known and the parents who had raised her. As I wrote, I poured my heartache, confusion and hopes into the story and to what has become a series.

What is the title of your book?

The first book in The Azetha Series is called Secrets of Fathara.

Could you give us a back cover blurb?

Tika is not like the other princesses on Fathara. With her wild hair, pointy ears, and disheveled appearance (not to mention the collarless sand tiger who follows her around), it is hard for her to make and  keep friends. To complicate things further, Tika discovers she is more than Human, with surprising abilities. And all she wants to be — is normal.

Yet the very abilities that set Tika apart are the very things that Fathara needs to save it from destruction. For Mortan, an ancient Elven sorcerer who harbors a dangerous secret within him, has been searching for Tika . . . and he wants her dead.

What genre does your book fall under?

This book falls under YA Fantasy.

Do you have a favorite character, why?

One of my favorite characters in the series is a small talking lizard named Eno. He appears in the second book, The Veil of Death. Tika and her companions meet Eno at the entrance of the Swamp of Tears and from then on they can’t seem to shake the lizard off — unless of course danger rears its ugly head — in which case Eno runs away or hides. He also has a tendency to eat too much and talk too much.

What kind of impact do you expect your works to have in the reader’s lives?

What I love about this series is its cross appeal. Although the main character is a princess, because it’s a fantasy with action and adventure, magic and fantasy creatures, I have fans who are boys and girls as well as adults. The story is meant on a basic level to entertain, however, with the varying themes of betrayal, forgiveness, loss, death, healing and hope, readers can also find other messages that can touch their lives and hearts beyond the basic story of Tika’s journey of self-discovery and saving her world.

What else might pique the reader’s interest in your book?

Because I am a fan of Lord of the Rings and Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, I think of this series as a cross between the two, only less wordy and faster paced.

Where can we find your book?

My books are available in both paperback and ebook form.  I also just recently combined my prequel and first three books in The Azetha Series into a four book eBook bundle.
