Writing a new series was very scary for me. I found myself deeply caring about the characters in my Fuchsia Minnesota Series. A writer has to care about her characters. Writing the Brilliant Minnesota series I wanted to bring some of the quirkiness of my Fuchsia characters to my Brilliant Minnesota characters but I had to be careful and make sure I gave them different traits. As I immersed myself in my writing I got the feel  for my characters lives. They told me who they were going to be and they came alive in my heart and my mind.

I like silly. It takes me away from the real word and I hope my readers do to. I hope they come to know and care about the Brilliant Minnesota characters as their lives develop in the books that follow.

Fuchsia Minnesota Series… super ball or books???

How long have you been writing?

I began writing professionally in 2005 when I was hired to be the weekly columnist for the Albert Lea Tribune with my column Something About Nothing. Under all the nothings we greet each other with there is always something left unsaid. I accepted a contract with Cozy Cat Press in 2013. That began my career as an author. I always have been a dreamer and in my youth would document my dreams and fiction ideas on paper.

Tell us where you were born and where do you live now.

I was born in a small town in Minnesota and I still live there having left for a few years when my husband’s career made a move necessary.

How do you know the idea is good enough to write a book about it? (more…)
