Dante
has lived in multiple places. In each of those places, he has read to
his dog. She doesn’t seem to mind, but Dante is suspicious that she’s
not actually very interested in what he has to say. You have to
understand, Dante’s dog can’t read. So he has to read aloud to her.
He hopes that you can read for yourself, and that maybe you’ll read
the things that he’s read aloud to his dog. Maybe you’ll be more
interested in the things Dante has written and read aloud than the
dog
is.

Is attempting to outwit a superintelligent being really the answer? Or will it require something much more fundamentally human?

Uncanny
Valley
Uncanny
Valley Book 1
by
C.A. Gray
Genre:
YA Dystopian, Coming of Age

**Dystopian
coming-of-age with superintelligent A.I.**

Rebecca
Cordeaux knows exactly what her future will hold: she will marry
Andy, her crush of the last five years. Once Andy is ready to settle
down, she’s sure he will discover that she is his soulmate. After
several small parts on stage, Rebecca knows she can become a renowned
actress. Her writing also shows promise as a future author. Robots
perform most human jobs that can be automated, leaving many free to
pursue their personal creative interests.

But
Rebecca’s mother Karen fears the new world of robots, and insists her
brilliant daughter join a university research team, studying the
hazards of a complete robotic economy. Rebecca’s father Quentin was
obsessed with the subject to a degree that even her mother considered
absurd, prior to his untimely death. So long as she can reserve
enough of her time to pursue her true passions on the side, Rebecca
half-heartedly agrees to join the research team, if only to please
her widowed mother. There she joins a post-doc named Liam, whose
conspiracy theories rival even those of her late father. Liam is
convinced that world Republic leader William Halpert’s worldwide
challenge for researchers to develop synthetic creativity will lead
not to the promised utopia, in which every kind of human suffering
has been eradicated, but rather to an apocalypse. Rebecca, whose best
friend is her own companion bot Madeline, writes Liam off as a
bot-hating conspiracy theorist, just like her father was… until she
learns that her father’s death might not have been due to mere
happenstance.

With
Liam’s help, Rebecca learns of an underground organization known as
The Renegades, where Quentin Cordeaux was considered a legend. While
Liam attempts to stop Halpert’s challenge if he can, Rebecca tries
to unravel the mystery of what happened to her father. Did he and
many of his contemporaries die for something they knew? Who is the
mysterious informant who calls himself John Doe, and only seems to
want to drive her out of harm’s way? And if Halpert’s challenge
is answered, will it usher in a brave new chapter in humanity’s
history… or were Quentin Cordeaux’s dire predictions right all
along?

The
Silver Six
Uncanny
Valley Book 2

What
is it that makes us truly human?

Rebecca
Cordeaux’s entire world has been turned upside down. In a single
day, she’s learned that Senate Leader Halpert and his Board of
Advisors are actually illegal humanoid robots created underground
twenty years ago—and they tried to have her killed. Her mother
Karen, whom she always believed to be passionately against the cause
of the Renegades, turns out to be their leader. And Liam, a man she
never thought she cared for, is now fighting for his life—and she
finds that she cares desperately.

Fortunately
Karen, known to the Renegades as M, has planned for exactly this sort
of eventuality. Using Rebecca’s father’s blueprints, Karen
patiently built an underground compound in an abandoned part of the
Americas where they can regroup and plan for the coming war. The
compound becomes an unlikely oasis as their number grows, both on
accident and on purpose. In attempting to recover her best friend and
companion bot Madeline, Rebecca gets what she thought she’d always
wanted: Andy arrives at the compound too, along with her friends Jake
and Julie. But with the sudden addition of an old flame from Liam’s
past, Rebecca discovers just how little acquainted she has been with
her own heart.

Meanwhile,
the Silver Six are running a worldwide campaign of indoctrination to
ensure that the people are on their side. In the name of peace, they
want nothing more than to wipe out every shred of resistance, while
pursuing their ultimate goal of robotic superintelligence. With the
assistance of a neuroscientist who helped to build the Silver Six
decades ago, Rebecca attempts to understand how synthetic minds work,
hoping this information can be used against them. She’s sure that
the mysterious, brilliant, and beautiful Alessandra Russo is the key
somehow, but Alex’s hatred for the Silver Six is only matched by
her hatred for the Renegades. Can the Renegades find and exploit the
weakness of the Silver Six before synthetic intelligence passes the
point of no return?

Jaguar
Uncanny
Valley Book 3

The
Silver Six have blown the Renegades’ underground compound to bits,
killing several of Rebecca’s best friends in the process—and to
her horror, the boy Rebecca had convinced herself she loved for all
these years was the one to betray them all. At the same time, General
Specs, the company Liam was once slated to inherit, has developed a
superintelligent robot called Jaguar which is quickly becoming
godlike in her omniscience. As the remaining Renegades flee to their
last bastion of safety in the Caribbean, Liam makes his way back to
London, in a last ditch effort to convince his father to destroy
Jaguar before it’s too late.

Rebecca,
meanwhile, finally understands her own heart: she never loved Andy.
He was merely a ‘safe’ choice who would never require anything of
her. Liam, on the other hand, exasperating as he was, had seen past
her defenses. All of his teasing and provoking had been his attempt
to get her to be real with him—but the more he made her feel, the
further she had retreated. She had even substituted her companion bot
Madeline for real, deep human friendships, and for the same reason:
she’d been avoiding love to protect herself from another loss like
the one she had experienced when her father was killed for the
Renegades’ cause. Ironically, she only realizes this once Liam is
on his way to a similar fate. But she’ll be damned if she lets him
go without a fight.

This
high stakes conclusion to the Uncanny Valley Trilogy envisions a
world not too far off from our own, in which superintelligence is a
reality, humanoid bots have supplanted human power and influence, and
there are eyes watching and reporting our every move. If humanity is
to survive, the Renegades will have to galvanize support across the
globe, under the radar—and it will require every last bit of
ingenuity they possess. But is attempting to outwit a
superintelligent being really the answer? Or will it require
something much more fundamentally human?

PIERCING THE VEIL (magic and quantum physics meet Arthurian legends),

Born
in Germany in 1976, Toni Cox moved to South Africa in 1991. Although
she has spent much of her working career in the timber wholesale
business, she is also an accomplished horse rider, has a diploma in
project management, photography and nutrition, and has a passion for
books and all things fantasy.

From a young age, her dream had
always been to put her imagination into words – give the stories
life. When she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2013, she
decided life is too short not to follow her dream. So, with the
support of her husband and three children, she began writing book 1
of the Elemental Trilogy in January 2015.
The Elemental Saga
is a fantasy story spanning over 35 books. These stories all take
place on the various Life Planets of the Milky Way galaxy. The first
4 books were published between 2016 – 2017, with 5 more books coming
in 2018.
The Andromeda Saga takes place in the Andromeda
galaxy and will be a mix of sci-fi and fantasy. Hopefully, by 2020,
we will see the first books of this saga published.
Toni Cox
also writes dystopian fantasy, and her first novel, Resilient, is due
for release in 2018.

SHATTERED ROADS
The Skyfire Saga
Book 1
by Alice
Henderson
Genre: Science Fiction/Dystopian

In a future laid
waste by environmental catastrophe, one woman in a shielded megacity
discovers a secret hidden within—and the nightmare of what lies
beyond.
Her designation is H124—a menial
worker in a city safeguarded against the devastating storms of the
outer world. In a community where consumerism has dulled the senses,
where apathy is the norm and education is a thing of the past, H124
has one job: remove the bodies of citizens when they pass away in
their living pods.
Then one night, H124’s routine leads
her into the underground ruins of an ancient university. Buried
within it is a prescient alarm set up generations ago: an
extinction-level asteroid is hurtling toward Earth.
When her warning is seen as an attempt
to topple the government with her knowledge of science, H124 is
hunted—and sent fleeing for her life beyond the shield of her
walled metropolis. In a weather-ravaged unknown, her only hope lies
with the Rovers, the most dangerous faction on Earth. For they have
continued to learn. And they have survived to help avert a terrifying
threat: the end of the world is near.

C.B.
Stone is sometimes called author, writer, or purveyor of stories. One
might even dub her a yarn spinner if you will. It’s very possible she
might be considered just a little left of normal by most, but she’s
cool with that. Really, she’s too busy avoiding normal to care. On
any given day, you might find Stone pounding away at a keyboard in
sunny Florida, contemplating waves, contemplating life and dreaming
up more exciting stories to share with readers.

Except
Sunday’s of course. Sunday’s are God’s day, so you’ll often find her
making her best “joyful noise” with her local church praise
team. When not pounding poor fingers to bloody nuggets and
reinventing the definition of eye strain, C.B. Stone enjoys living it
up, doing the family thing, the kid thing, and the friend thing. And
in her downtime, reading the minds of fans.

Also
being invisible. Being invisible is fun.

The best and worst parts of Jude Gallagher’s life collide as myth meets reality

Thursday, February 22nd, 2018
Firebloods
by
Casey Hays
Genre:
YA Paranormal Romance
326
pages

Jude
Gallagher thought she was crazy.

It
all started when the boy next door made her hear music—inside her
head. All the time.

It
was torture.

She
didn’t think things could get worse. But then one hot summer, her
best friend Kane O’Reilly decides to tell her how he really feels
about her. Music inside her head? That’s nothing compared what
happens next.

Things
only turn stranger when she and her lab partner Frankie Melmack begin
a project to prove the existence of the Vatra u Krvi—a race of
people tied to the mythical Phoenix. Add in a neglectful mother and a
magic ring, and the insanity that defines Jude’s life is pretty
well complete.

Heat
surges across the Nevada desert, and the best and worst parts of Jude
Gallagher’s life collide as myth meets reality. In the middle of
the chaos, she begins to hear more than just music. And she has to
wonder…

Maybe…
just maybe… she really is crazy after all.

Firebloods is the first book I’ve ever taken out on tour. Based on the legend of the Phoenix, this book is probably one of my favorites. All of my books are very character-driven rather than plot-driven, and this book is sort of an interactive read, where my main character, Jude Gallagher, draws readers right into the story, up close and personal. She’s a seventeen year old girl whose father was brutally killed in a wildlife attack five years ago. Her mother has never recovered from his death, sinking into a clinical depression and staying there to this day. So Jude has fended for herself since she was 12. She’s a gifted pianist, but she hasn’t played a note since her father’s death. But she’s full of an inner-strength she doesn’t recognize, and this has allowed her to overcome her obstacles.

Enter her gang of friends: These four people are Jude’s rock. They’ve been there for her when her mother hasn’t, and she wouldn’t have survived without them. Let’s break them down:

Kane O’Reilly is very confident, but not cocky. He’s gorgeous with distinctive dimples, jet black hair and emerald green eyes, all of which attract a lot of female attention, but Jude stole his heart ages ago over an alphabet assignment in kindergarten. He’s waiting for her to realize that she loves him. He’s into motorcycles and cooking, and he has a huge secret he’s never shared with these four friends.

Jonas Cameron has known Jude since toddlerhood when their mothers commuted together during nursing school. Strong and trustworthy, athletic and kind of a little teddy bear with a wild heart, this blond-haired, blue-eyed boy is always there when Jude needs a friend. He’s really like a brother to her.

Devan Parker is Jonas’s girlfriend. She’s a cheerleader with a thing for fashion. Spontaneous, fun-loving and always ready for some excitement, she’s never afraid to speak her mind, which sometimes gets the rest of them into a bind. Her carefree attitude balances Jude’s much more conservative personality.

Frankie Melmack is the genius in the bunch. Frizzy, flyaway hair and glasses, she’ll likely graduate from college within six months of graduating from high school. For all her education, she’s a firm believer in the supernatural, which is a paradox. She and Jude have been friends since 7th grade when they were thrown together as lab partners. Currently, they are working on a summer project to prove the existence of the Vatra u Krvi, aka Firebloods- a race of people purportedly created with Phoenix blood. This project opens the door to a mythical world neither girl ever imagined.

We can’t forget about Rylin McDowell- a red-headed, hazel-eyed Irish boy who somehow makes Jude hear music inside her head. He’s a mystery she can’t quite figure out. But she will.

modified are now nothing but servants for their pureblooded
masters.

Living
in this time, you know your place, and you do not cross the line. So,
when a violent death occurs in the Bronze District, Annalise is
ordered to take this as her trial run at Divinity PD to prove that
she can do the job as a member of the Human Possession
Department.

To
defy her father’s wish to marry her off, and keep her Chief happy,
she is determined to solve this murder by any means necessary—even
if it means going to districts she has only read about in textbooks
and fighting her forbidden feelings for her servant.

With
internal battles, dirty politics, and sinister secrets, just how
exactly will Annalise solve her Case: 0? And more importantly, will
she live to see her next one?

What can we expect from you in the future?

That’s a tough question. I love writing with all my heart. It brings me joy to give life to my characters and tell their stories. It always makes me happy to see my readers enjoying the works I’ve created, too.

So far, my goal is to write 100 books I’m satisfied with. In these past ten months, I’ve released seven and have three more to go before the end of the year. Afterwards, I believe I will slow down to 2-3 books a year as I will have to write books from scratch again instead of releasing the material I’ve already written over the past three years.

To answer the question, hopefully, I won’t be buried under a mountain of other pen names out there. I have a lot of stories to tell and look forward to finding new readers.

Tell us about a favourite character from a book.

I love Watson from Sherlock Holmes. People often think that Sherlock is the one who should get the trophy, and he is the main character in his own right, but Watson managed to become a friend to such an oddball and still not pick up any of Sherlock’s bad habits or addictions. He can easily stand on his own, protects those he loves and cares about, and he is a good friend. What else can you want in an awesome character?

Describe your writing style.

Every author’s writing style changes and morphs throughout their career. It can depend on many factors such as what they’re reading at the time, their feelings, thoughts, emotions, heartbreak. I don’t believe my writing style has yet stabilised. I know that I have my own voice in my works. My stories often talk about life and the choices we make, prejudice, love and hate, being backed into a corner, manipulation, greed, lies and deceit, etc. There is also some of my philosophy hidden between the lines.

What makes a good story?

Mystery. A story without something hidden or kept from the reader until the very last pages makes for a boring read in my opinion. I even left an “Easter egg” of sorts in Helena Hawthorn series. I often wonder if someone will catch on to it or not.

A day in the life of the author?

I think I’m expected to say something like: “I wake up every morning and write 5,000 words. Then I have some food and write some more.” In my case, that’s not entirely true. It depends on the day. Some days, I can wake up early, get my fill of green tea and something to digest while I dive into the story I’m working on. My word count typically varies between 1,000-5,000 words a day. If I’ve not written for a few days or weeks, the word count is ridiculously low but does increase with each passing day.

Then there are days when I’m faced with edits of my book and want to pull my hair out. Staring at the MS of 100,000 words and wondering why on earth I wound up writing so much! Life would spare me so much stress and grey hair if a magical fairy turned my books into readily edited and proofed manuscripts when I went to sleep.

I think the most common denominator of every day is being alone. Sure, I have a lot of emails to respond to or messages on FB to reply to, but human interaction is greatly limited in my case. It gets very lonely, so I am glad I don’t live alone. If I did, I would most likely go crazy.

Advice they would give new authors?
Don’t slack off on marketing. Marketing helps with exposure of your work. If you abandon it after a week or a month, your sales will dry up and so will the attention your book receives.

If you get a bad review, don’t let it get you down. Each bad review will sting less and less until you grow so used to them that you won’t have to worry about them too much. Not everyone is going to love your work. It’s the reality we must accept. But, the first 1-3 bad reviews can really upset authors and keep them from writing more stories. Some authors I know stay away from reading their reviews because they stress them to the point where they can’t focus on work.

What are you currently reading?

Bram Stoker’s Dracula. I thought getting into the classics may be a nice change of pace and give me some new ideas.

How long have you been writing?

Since 2012, but the first time I published was in October 2016.

May
Freighter is an internationally bestselling author from Dublin,
Ireland. She writes Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, and Sci-Fi
mysteries that will keep you entertained, mystified, and hopefully
craving more. Her only pets are cacti. They’re the only things that

she’s engrossed in writing.

On
sunny, rainy, and overcast days, she spends her time with her
fictional friends, putting them through dangerous adventures while
wishing them the best of luck. Her hobbies are photography, drawing,
and plotting different ways of a characters’ demise.

A promising new YA series about a totalitarian America

Friday, August 18th, 2017
Counteract
Resistance Series Book 1
by Tracy Lawson
Genre: YA Dystopian Adventure
Who
do you trust when your world unravels and everything you believed is
a lie?

For
the past fifteen years, The Office of Civilian Safety and Defense has
guarded the public against the rampant threat of terrorism. Teenagers
Tommy and Careen have never known life without Civilian Restrictions.
For them, there’s no social media. No one is allowed to gather in
public places or attend concerts or sporting events. Only a small,
select group of adults have driving privileges, but it’s a small
price to pay for safety.

Now
a new, more deadly, terrorist threat looms: airborne chemical weapons
that can be activated without warning. The OCSD is ready with an
antidote to counteract the effects of the toxins. Three drops a day
is all it takes. It’s a small price to pay for health.

The
day the disaster sirens signal the dreaded attack, Tommy shares his
last dose with Careen, even though doing so might hasten his death.
It’s a small price to pay for a friend.Follow Tommy and Careen as
they uncover a web of lies and deceit reaching to the highest levels
of the United States government and join an underground resistance
group that’s determined to expose the truth.

“Counteract
is a novel for our times, but with a decidedly different plot twist.
Most dystopian thrillers focus on the devastating consequences of the
unleashed virus or poison on society, community, and the individual.
They become character studies of the protagonists and
antagonists.

“Tracy
Lawson’s novel asks an even more disturbing question–what if the
real culprit was someone or something we trusted? I thought The
Hunger Games might be the Millennial generation’s version of George
Orwell’s 1984. Now, I think Counteract and the Resistance Series are
more primed to take that spot.”–SR Staley, author of St. Nic,
Inc., and the Tortuga Bay series.

Resist
Resistance
Series Book 2

“I
loved the first book in this series so much that I jumped right into
the second one to continue the adventure. The Resistance Series is
another great YA dystopian adventure that combines elements of
thriller, romance, dystopian, and much more to create a well-rounded
story that is sure to appeal to many readers – it definitely has my
attention.”–TFL Reader, top 500 Amazon Reviewer

Knowledge
comes with a price.

Tommy
and Careen no longer believe the Office of Civilian Safety and
Defense’s miracle antidote can protect them from a terrorist’s
chemical weapons. After accidentally discovering the antidote’s real
purpose, they’ve join the fight to undermine the OCSD’s bid for total
control of the population.

Being
part of the Resistance brings with it a whole new set of challenges.
Not everyone working for change proves trustworthy, and plans to
spark a revolution go awry with consequences far beyond anything they
bargained for.

Tommy
and Careen’s differing viewpoints threaten to drive a wedge between
them, and their budding relationship is tested as their destinies
move toward an inevitable confrontation with the forces that
terrorize the nation.

Where
does love fit in when you’re trying to start a
revolution?

“Dystopian
YA literature needs more writers like Tracy Lawson! Lawson’s lean
writing style and idea-driven dialogue reminded me of the novels of
Ayn Rand, particularly Anthem, but Resist is much faster paced and
holds your attention from the beginning.

“Resist
picks up right where the first book, Counteract, leaves off, and
readers are thrown immediately into the action. I also loved the way
Lawson doesn’t give her characters the easy way out–they are forced
to make decisions and suffer the consequences. These are real people
that anchor the story, even if the setting is not.” –SR Staley,
author of St. Nic, Inc. and the Tortuga Bay series

Resistance
Series Book 3

The
Greatest Risk Is To Take No Risk At All.

Nationwide
food shortages have sparked civil unrest, and the Office of Civilian
Safety and Defense’s hold on the people is slipping. The
Resistance’s efforts to hasten the OCSD’s demise have resulted in
disaster, with Tommy Bailey and Careen Catecher taking the blame for
the ill-fated mission in OP-439.

Both
teens struggle to survive the circumstances that force them into the
national spotlight—and this time, they’re on opposite sides. On
the run and exiled from the Resistance members in BG-098, Tommy makes
his way to a Resistance safe house in the capital.

The
OCSD is preparing to monitor all under-eighteens with the Cerberean
Link, a device that protects them against hunger and sickness and can
even locate them if they’re lost. Tommy’s now living in close
quarters with Atari, an operative who has been assigned to sabotage
the Link. But does Atari plan to use it for his own
purposes?

Through
it all, Tommy refuses to believe Careen’s loyalties have shifted
away from the Resistance, and he’s willing to assume any risk to
reconnect with her. Will they be able to trust each other when it
matters most?

The
Explosive Conclusion to the Award-Winning Resistance Series

To
Deny Freedom is to Deny the Human Spirit.

Fugitive
Resistance fighter Tommy Bailey has come out of hiding to help rescue
Careen Catecher from the clutches of the Office of Civilian Safety
and Defense, where she’s been held and interrogated for information
about the rebel group. The OCSD is poised to launch the Cerberean
Link, a security device that will put all minors under constant
surveillance under the guise of protecting them.

Fearful
that OCSD director Madalyn Davies’s bid for control won’t stop
there, the Resistance puts its own plan in motion to sabotage the
Link and oust Madalyn from the directorship. Just when everything
seems leveraged in the Resistance’s favor, treachery, lies, and
long-held secrets threaten to derail it all.

Will
even a life together on the run be impossible for Tommy and Careen?
Or will the Resistance’s efforts convince the public to put their
fears aside and demand freedom?

Careen’s
Prequel to the Resistance Series

“What
was our heroine Careen Catecher like BEFORE she became a firebrand
for the Resistance? Well, she was just a normal teenage girl trying
to survive college in the totalitarian state of Tracy Lawson’s
creation.” –review by Patrick Hodges

“Careen
is a believable, strong female protagonist who, having survived a
harrowing terrorist attack, is now trying to survive [college] in a
new ‘Quadrant’ where she can’t seem to fit in.” –review by
Candace Williams

A
strong heroine is made, not born.

Though
Careen Catecher survived a terrorist attack when she was nine, her
childhood ended on that awful day. Now, nine years later, she’s
ready for her life to truly begin.

A
full scholarship to a prestigious university far from her beleaguered
home quadrant seems like a dream come true, but when she arrives on
campus, she’s perceived as a charity case, despite grades and test
scores that prove she’s the academic equal of the best students
there.

Careen
knows she’s tough enough to survive just about anything, but
fitting in with her acquisitive peers—at least on the surface—is
necessary if she’s going to leave the past behind and claim the
stable future she craves.

But
her past won’t stay buried. She’s only been at school for a few
weeks when a cryptic message from an unlikely friend raises questions
that may put her in danger all over again.

Tracy
Lawson knew she wanted to be a writer from the time she could read.
In the first grade, she authored sixty-seven contact-paper bound
books through her school’s Young Authors program. Though that pace
proved impossible to maintain, she always intended to be a real
author one day.

While
working toward her Bachelor’s degree in Communication at Ohio
University, she studied creative writing with the late Daniel Keyes,
author of Flowers for Algernon. After short stints as a media buyer
and an investigative analyst, she settled into a 20-year career in
the performing arts, teaching tap dancing in Columbus, Ohio, and
choreographing musicals. Though her creative energies were focused on
dance, she never lost her desire to write, and has a non-fiction book
to her credit: Fips, Bots, Doggeries, and More, (McDonald &
Woodward, 2012).

Tracy’s
love for writing Young Adult fiction is sparked by all the wonderful
teens in her life, including her daughter Keri, a college student.
Counteract is Tracy’s first novel.

Genre:
SciFi, Fantasy, Dystopian

“It’s
the end of the world, and I have the best seat in the
house.”

Armageddon
has arrived. It’s not as bad as we thought.

The
world is in trouble.
Correction.
The world is ending and soon. The last days are coming and humanity
is unable to stop it. Naturally, humanity has a backup plan.
Welcome
to the Moon, where the air is thin, life is hard, and the Earth isn’t
fit to live on.
Now,
how can we make things better?
Luna
is Garon Whited’s science fiction and fantasy story of one man
surviving the end of the world despite it’s many obvious obstacles
and his attempt to save some of humanity.

From
the very first line, “Luna” grabs the reader. Where most
books start with a world in trouble and ride the story on in to the
Last Days, “Luna” starts with the ultimate end of the world
and flies forward into the future.

The
end of the world has never been quite so entertaining. Crushing
despair, soaring hope, and the stubborn determination of humanity all
come together in a story told by a man in the middle of it
all.

Welcome
to the Moon, the new home of humanity.
