There was no question in my mind, no doubt about whether or not I was dead

Monday, October 28th, 2019

Born and
raised in the rainy streets of the Seattle Area, L.P. Masters spent her fair
share of time staring out rain-streaked windows and writing books. Masters has
always had extremely vivid dreams, which often spark inspiration for her
novels. In 1999, after one such dream, Masters began her first writing project.
She has participated in National Novel Writer’s Month every November since
2010. Writing isn’t the only thing she can do with a pen in her hand, she also
enjoys sketching and drawing—with varying degrees of success. Masters now lives
in the slightly-less-dreary city of Spokane Washington with her husband, four
wonderful daughters, and two crazy dogs.

Gina’s plan
for her afterlife is simple: survive as long as possible. The afterlife is a
ghost-kill-ghost kind of place. When she meets newly-dead Alec, she can’t help
her desire to protect him. Before she knows it, she finds herself falling for
him, despite the little voice in her head telling her it’s a bad idea.
Alec’s goals don’t mesh well with Gina’s plans. Determined to save his living
sister from a murderer, he’s willing to disobey the laws of a well-established
cult in the afterlife. If the cult finds out, they’ll kill him. Again. He’s
hesitant to accept Gina’s help and threaten her afterlife, but he’s guaranteed
to fail without her. Together they embark on a perilous mission, but the most
dangerous aspect of all is the threat of falling in love. Because in the
afterlife… love is death.
Snippet:
My vision blurred as I leaned my head against my stone. I fought the
feeling, but there wasn’t much I could do, so I slipped into a dream. Ghosts
rarely slept, but when we needed to, there was no stopping it.
I drew in a long, deep breath.
I was alive again as I dreamed.
I could feel the seatbelt chafing my shoulder, the cracked leather on the
armrest digging into my elbow. I could barely keep my eyes open. Streetlights
flashed through my closed lids as we drove down the road.
It was three in the morning. The party at Micah’s house had lasted all
night, and my boyfriend, Caden, and I had stayed up late the night before,
studying for finals.
“Did you have fun?” I asked Caden absently, eyes still closed. He
didn’t answer, but I didn’t think anything of it. I’d almost drifted back to
sleep when I heard the horn blaring.
My eyes flew open to the glare of headlights aimed straight through the
passenger-side window.
“Caden!”
The dream turned to slow motion as that pair of headlights crashed through
my window. Pain like none I’d ever felt before ripped through me. The noise
rose to a crescendo, and I could feel.
I felt myself being torn apart, my soul wrenched from my body.
There was no question in my mind. No doubt about whether or not I was dead.
I walked to a rock that sat in front of a nearby driveway and hugged my knees.
I scanned the quiet streets, waiting for some sort of light or understanding.
Waiting for heaven. Heaven never came, and it didn’t take long for me to
realize that the afterlife was nothing more than hell on Earth.

I
get so much satisfaction in the writing process. I take care to
choose just the right word, to make sure each sentence has the right
cadence. I appreciate other writers who respect the craft in this
way, and I hope my readers do so with me. Writing is a need, a desire
for expression, and springs from well within my subconscious mind.
Thoughts rise up, scenes rise up and blend in with the over-arching
story. These thoughts emerge whenever they want to and wherever I am
and probably not when I am at the computer. The computer is for the
craft, the technique. The thoughts come during walks, or while
driving the car, or at the grocery store. I am the willing recipient
of these thoughts and so they seek me out. It’s a mystery this
business and art of writing and it keeps me enthralled.

No matter who dares you, no matter what lures you, do not go in the spooky old house…

Monday, June 17th, 2019
Ann has been a writer since junior high, but to
pay the bills she has waited tables, delivered newspapers, cleaned other
people’s houses, taught school, and had a stint as a secretary in a rock-n-roll
radio station. She also worked as a 911 operator and a police dispatcher.

Her fiction began to win awards during her college days. Since then she’s
published several short stories, novels, and novellas. She’s always reading and
always writing, but even if she never sold another story, Ann would not stop
writing. For her it’s a necessity, like breathing. Most of the time, it even
keeps her sane.

It was the late 60s. The Beatles had washed across America like a
British tsunami, Vietnam was a grainy, green and black dose of unreality on the
evening news, a bunch of hippies had taken over San Francisco, and there was a
heck of a rainstorm pouring down on Woodstock. But I didn’t know all that then.
I was a little bit lost, looking for something. I swear I didn’t go looking for
a ghost…well, okay, maybe I did. But I didn’t expect to find one. Heck, I was
just a kid. I didn’t expect much of anything.

Conall has undeniably handsome features, but, he is missing something of vital importance… His body

Friday, October 26th, 2018

I’m a mom who writes books in her spare time: translation–I hide in the bathroom with my laptop and lock the door while the kids destroy the house and smear peanut butter on the walls. I was born in Utah but lived in Kansas until I was 13, in Texas until I was 18, and attended college in Hawaii—studying marine biology. I’m now back in Utah–“happy valley”. I’m married to a wonderful husband, James, and we are currently raising 6 rambunctious children. My interests are reading, writing (of course), martial arts, visual arts, creating Halloween props, and spending time with family.
I signed with Clean Teen Publishing in 2013. My first published book Rising, quickly hit the best-seller lists and has maintained its status on those lists since it’s release in September 2013. The sequel in The Rising Series titled, Descending, was released in late March 2014. It also hit best-seller status–reaching all the way to #1 in Mythology on Amazon.

It’s 1792 and Hope is on the run. She finds shelter in a glen called Sleepy Hollow. Luck is with her as the town is unexpectedly looking for a new teacher and Hope is hired for the job.

Unfortunately, not everything is looking up for her. Not only is the mayor out to get her fired and the local witch determined to slice her up and brew her organs into potions, but hidden under the floorboards of her quaint little cabin, she finds a man. His name is Conall.

Conall is demanding, he’s ornery, and though he has undeniably handsome features, he is missing something of vital importance…
His body.

Snippet:
Hope
cried out as her fingers swiped at Conall’s head. The surface of the water flew
toward him. He barely had time to take a big breath when he tumbled into the
river. He could hear her muted scream as he rolled and bobbed away with the
current.
She’d dropped him!

Why was he not surprised? He would have been better off left under the floorboards.

No
way am I that crazy.
‘Touch me, Roosa. You will see I’m real
enough.’
Touch him? Is he as crazy as I am? Okay,
so I’m going to touch him, just for my own peace of mind.
I reach out my hand, fingers extended,
trying to reach him but not move from the wall. A crooked smile appears
face. He takes a couple of steps forward, reaches out and touches me.
Lightning heat shoots out from him, races up my arm, switches direction and dives into my stomach. I snatch my hand
and grab my belly with both hands. The burning sensation knocks my knees out
from under me. I slump to the floor, still leaning on the wall. The room spins,
and my head swims. Tears mixed with stars blur my vision so there is no focusing.
Not enough air in here; my chest tightens as if the lungs inside are ready to
explode.

Snippet From A Savage
Ghost:
She tried to ignore Wade beside her. He wore her favorite cologne, the one she had first introduced him to. During the meeting, she’d managed to ignore it, but now … It brought back so many memories. She’d liked the fragrance well enough at the mall, but when he’d put it on, he’d brought his own something to the smell.

Her pulse quickened at the memory. Irritated, she tried to analyze her reaction to the smell, thinking of the science behind it, of the molecules of the fragrance responding to a person’s skin and hormones, the complex mixture of all those chemicals—water, fat, acids, sugars, salts, proteins …

What she really wanted was to snuggle against his neck and breathe him in.

Shelby leaned away from him, as far as she could, and rested her cheek in her palm. Didn’t she hate him? Hadn’t she told herself that over and over again for years? He’d rejected her because of who her father was. Like she had any control over that. It was absolutely ridiculous to still respond to him in this way. It made her feel weak, a simpleton who let hormones control her. She wouldn’t do it.

From the side, she sensed movement from him, and a whiff of his cologne hit her again. Was he doing that on purpose? She straightened, prepared to say something. He sat with his laptop open, earbuds already in his ears. He glanced at her and pulled out a bud.

“Sorry, is that blowing on you?” Wade reached up, shifted the air vent a little, and returned the earbud. He leaned over his computer, like he’d already forgotten her.

Shelby pulled the dagger from her heart. All these years she’d grieved the death of their love, vilified him, and agonized over what they might have had. Apparently, he hadn’t even given her a second thought.

Are all roses red?

Thursday, May 21st, 2015

J.B. Kantt, how long have you been writing? I have been writing for four years.

Tell us where you were born and where do you live now. I was born in the United States, on the east coast. I still live on the east coast.

How do you know the idea is good enough to write a book about it? I think any idea can be good enough to write a book about, as long as the author is willing to put in the work. I also think if an author is able make a good plot out of an idea, it’s good enough.

Who has made the greatest difference for you as a writer? (more…)

Margot, is so nice to meet you. How long have you been writing?

I have been writing forever—yet only with an eye to publication for about 20 years.
Tell us where you were born and where you live now.

I was born in Bendigo (a gold mining town) in Victoria, Australia, but I grew up in the tropics of Queensland. I married an American, and we came to live in Oregon USA with our three kids, many years ago.

Wow. How do you know the idea is good enough to write a book about it?

What a great reading this book has been! I finished at 1:00 a.m. because I couldn’t put it down. Descriptions are beautiful and she never deluges the reader (more…)
