A scarred and lonely viscount and an independent young woman are forced into an arranged marriage

Friday, February 22nd, 2019

Sally Britton is a bestselling indie author, with four historical romance novels. She contributes to the Historical Hussies blog and teaches a young writer’s class at her local library. Sally received her BA in English from Brigham Young University. She’s always read voraciously and eclectically.

Sally started her writing journey at the tender age of fourteen on an electric typewriter and she’s never looked back. Sally lives in Arizona with her crime-fighting husband, four children, and their dog. She loves researching, hiking, and geeking out over her favorite books and movies.

A scarred and lonely viscount and an independent young woman are forced into an arranged marriage. What hope do they have for a happily ever after?
Rebecca Devon lives under the severe eye of her aunt and the iron will of her father. Though she wears what she is told and befriends the people they choose for her, she spends every moment longing to do as she wishes. Knowing freedom will only come through marriage, her hopes for a happy union are stolen away when her father arranges her marriage to a complete stranger.
Christian Hundley, Lord Easton, has learned the hard way that English society won’t accept a person who looks or behaves differently than their ideal. He has hidden himself away from scornful eyes for years, until his aging grandfather takes matters in hand and finds Christian a bride. Knowing he must agree to the marriage, Christian shields his heart. If the whole of society cannot accept him, why should his bride?
Rebecca knows she must have love in her life, but Christian is convinced there is nothing so fraught with danger and pain as entrusting one’s heart to another. Rebecca does everything she can to change his mind, but Christian is determined to remain aloof. Can an arranged marriage ever be anything other than a business partnership?
While this is the fifth book in the Regency romance series, Branches of Love, it can be read as a stand-alone romance.

Snippet:
“This is not a game, and you are not a child,” Christine said firmly. “This is your life. Not a broken toy, or a spoilt holiday. Loving someone is not so easy as determining not to let the rain ruin a picnic.”
“Why not?” Rebecca asked. “It is all a matter of perspective. If I meet this man and choose to see the good in him, the qualities that one would admire and love in another, it may be enough.”
Christine didn’t appear convinced. “And if that doesn’t work? What is your next
dazzling idea?”
“To be friends, of course. To find a way to make a marriage between us
amicable.”
“What if he is cruel? What if he treats you terribly?” Christine pressed the
issue, her dark brown eyes full of apprehension.
“There is no use worrying on it until it proves to be the case,” Rebecca said,
then cleared her throat when she heard the tremble in her voice. “If I have no
choice in who I marry, I must at least hold onto the possibility of choosing
how I go about my life with this man. Don’t you understand, Christine? Hope and
my wits are all I have.”

As the eighth earl of Kellworth, Gareth is accustomed to getting what he wants. Then he encounters a woman he suspects is from the future–a utopian future that he feels compelled to see. He intends to get what he wants, but it will involve dealing with fae magic. And that could lead to disaster–for his heart.

Dr. Catherine Ryan is drawn to the handsome guest at Twickenham Manor, with his odd combination of childish excitement and old eyes that have seen too much pain. She loses her heart to him before she discovers the truth of when he’s from. Now she faces the biggest decision of her life!

Snippet:
Dead? The comment brought a macabre feel to the evening, and Catherine’s curiosity-itch flared. She peered at the stairs again with narrowed eyes; she had to investigate.
But, if Aunt Nellie were to discover Catherine up there, would she be banned from coming to Twickenham again? She reminded herself that “curiosity killed the cat.” In her mind, her grandmother’s voice finished the old adage, “But satisfaction brought him back.”
Still, Catherine needed to ask herself if the risk would be worth it. These balls had become the one bright spot in her life. If she were to lose them too . . .
Then the ever-present pull gave a stronger tug, the sense that there was something else going on and she must investigate. The American woman had said “they” were dead. Catherine was a doctor. Surely she had a responsibility to investigate.
Glancing to make sure she was alone, she picked up her skirts and began the climb. Winded by the time she reached the last landing before the fourth floor, she paused to catch her breath, vowing to start exercising regularly. Catherine had been blessed with a fast metabolism, so people were forever thinking she was fitter than she was.
She climbed the last flight. The hallway was unremarkable, lined with paintings. Listening for the sounds of movement, she examined the portraits as she went down the hallway. She heard nothing, and she didn’t smell blood.
One door stood open, so she let the tug lead her inside. The long room held nothing but more paintings. How odd. There were a few chairs scattered around, but it didn’t look like it was meant to be a regular gathering place for people to sit together and talk.
Most of the pictures were busts of individuals, but in the center of the room hung a large painting of five people, three women and two men. Catherine blinked. It was the Americans, and their painted images wore the same clothing the five had on tonight. She shivered.
The young man she’d danced with hadn’t attended the Regency immersion vacation, having only arrived that day. When had someone had time to paint him? She’d also never heard that Twickenham had an artist on staff.
She studied the rest of the pictures in the room. Some were dressed in Regency clothing, but there were many others that spanned several eras. The one with the Americans was the only picture of such a large group. Whoever had arranged the paintings lacked any sense of design, leaving large sections of the walls empty.
That pull came again, as though Catherine had a string attached to her chest that drew her. This time it was to a portrait of a man placed to the right of the one with the Americans. Catherine came to stand before his painting, wondering who he was.
He appeared to be a little older than she was with a few silver strands at his temples. He also had what she’d call a regal bearing. She worked with enough surgeons and specialists who were used to being in charge, and this man had that look about him. He also wore an expression of someone with a fierce determination, the type of man people would steer clear of.

Catherine stepped closer to the painting. Behind the force of will that he projected, he had pain etched on his face. Her heart ached for him. What had happened to mark him that way?

She’d never felt so terrified. Or so alive

Tuesday, February 19th, 2019

A hopeless romantic and adventurer at heart, she discovered her writing passion at the tender age of 8 and has been listening to those voices ever since. Fleeing an unwanted engagement, a young harpist follows her music passion to London. Becoming entangled with a handsome violinist who seems too aristocratic for a working-class musician may be more problematic than dodging her erstwhile fiancé, sleeping in the streets, or staying alive when a madman targets her for murder.

Snippet:
Excitement
bubbled up inside Susanna at the possibilities that lay before her. “Oh,
Martha, I do want to go to London to find work as a harpist. How would I get there?”
How would she get there? Susanna froze. She
must travel alone, unprotected, and in the company of strangers. Still,
remaining here seemed infinitely worse.
Martha frowned.
“It doesn’t seem right, a gently bred lady like yourself traveling all alone.”
“Other people
manage somehow,” Susanna said, trying to be brave.
The
maid-turned-confident paused. “That’s true. I came here from London on the mail
coach. It took three days. It is an uncomfortable way to travel because it only
stops to change horses and drivers. That’s when we stretched our legs and
bought food at the posting inns. I didn’t have to worry about paying for a
bedchamber. But I’m used to being on my own.”
Susanna
considered. “I know where the nearest posting inn is. But once I reach London,
I wouldn’t know where to begin. I don’t know all the theatres, nor how to go
about getting a position, nor even where I’d stay.” The unknowns all loomed
before her like an endlessly high wall.
“I can’t help you
with getting a position, but I know the theatres.” Martha started counting off
on her fingers. “There’s the King’s Theatre, Covent Garden, Drury Lane,
Lyceum….”
Susanna smiled at
the sweet maid. What a dear she was for trying to help her! “I can see I should
have spoken to you sooner.”
Martha added, “I
still can’t like the idea of you traveling all the way to London alone, miss,
but I admire your courage.”
Courage or desperation? Either way, the more Susanna thought of it, the more determined she was to flee. Fear and excitement and anticipation tugged at her from every side, creating nervous anticipation. She’d never felt so terrified. Or so
alive.

Diana inexperience and uncertainties have discouraged the charming Mr. John Richfield or has she?

Thursday, February 7th, 2019

For as long as she can remember, Bethany Swafford has loved reading books. That love of words extended to writing as she grew older and when it became more difficult to find a ‘clean’ book, she determined to write her own. Among her favorite authors are Jane Austen, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Georgette Heyer.
When she doesn’t have pen to paper (or fingertips to laptop keyboard), she can generally be found with a book in hand.

~ Twitter ~ Instagram ~

Twenty-year-old Diana Forester, a country-bred young woman, fears that her inexperience and uncertainties have discouraged the charming Mr. John Richfield.

On arriving back home from London, she learns that he has already arrived, ready to continue their acquaintance and explore whether they are suited for each other.

If Diana thought that deciding her future marriage mate was difficult in London, courting takes on a whole new aspect when Diana’s younger siblings become involved. She finds herself dealing with her own feelings, her sister, her younger brother, jealous members of a house party, a jilted suitor, and a highwayman as she falls in love with the charming Mr. Richfield.

Snippet:
Mother sat alone in the sitting room when I entered. “Come have a seat, Diana,” she said, gesturing to the space on the settee next to her. “Your aunt hinted you had something you wanted to share with me.”
“Yes, I do.” I crossed the room. The entire trip from London I had spent thinking of the best way to approach this subject. All of my planning vanished the closer I got to my mother. By the time I sat down, my hands were damp with moisture. “You recall I met a Mr. Richfield in London, shortly after I first arrived?”
“Yes, you mentioned him several times in your letters.”
Her tone was matter-of-fact, giving absolutely nothing away, which I should have expected. Mother was an expert at keeping her thoughts to herself. “Well—” I hesitated as I sought the right words. I rubbed my palms against my skirt. “At Aunt Forester’s last dinner party, Mr. Richfield asked for my permission to come speak to father.”
For a moment, there was silence. “What was your answer?” Mother asked, as calm as ever.
I bit my lip and found I could no longer meet her gaze. “I fear I may have spoken without thinking.” Back when I had said the words, I had been surprised. Now though, I realized just how mistaken I had been. “I said it’s always pleasant to have someone new visit.”
“I see. Do you like him?”
Ah, there was the question. “I think so.” I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “He is respectable, at least as far as Uncle Forester could discover. No one ever had a word to say against him. I think he is a good man.”
“And yet, you don’t seem enthusiastic about marrying him.”
“I have only known him for a few weeks.” It felt good to be able to talk this out with my mother, now the awkwardness of saying the words had passed. If anyone could help me untangle my feelings, it was her. “Is that enough time to know a person? You knew Papa your whole life before he proposed.”
Mother’s hand came over mine. “Diana, look at me.” I lifted my eyes to hers. “You are the only one who can make this decision. It is your right to refuse an offer you find distasteful. However, you need to understand it is not likely you will have the opportunity to travel again and meet other people.”
“I don’t find the offer distasteful. I don’t think I know him well enough to accept his hand in marriage.” I sighed. “I wish I had had the time to know more about him.”
            “Perhaps you will.”
I shook my head. That seemed an impossibility. “Mama, the look on his face when I pretended I didn’t understand. I acted as if I were a senseless, empty-headed child! What kind of man would pursue me in the face of that?”
“A man who would be understanding. Someone who would realize your shy nature.”
Pulling my hand away, I reached to pour myself some much-needed tea. “There are other, much prettier girls with better dowries than I,” I remarked, adding just the right amount of cream and sugar. “I doubt I will ever see him again.”
Of that, I was quite certain. I had spent hours considering what a mess I had made of the situation. Why would he chase after me when Miss Reynolds was on hand to charm and flirt with him? I sipped my tea as I watched my mother’s face. Her smile was one I couldn’t quite understand. Why did she look so amused?

            “Mr. Richfield is already here.”

The problem is that Patience is already madly in love with his lordship

Tuesday, February 5th, 2019

Arabella Sheraton grew up on a diet of Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, and many other writers of that period. From Jane Austen to Georgette Heyer, Arabella has found both enjoyment and inspiration in sparkling, witty Regency novels. She also loves history and generally finds the past more fascinating than the future. Arabella wrote her first Regency romance to entertain her aged mom who loved the genre. Arabella is honoured to share the adventures of her heroes and heroines with readers.

In this charming traditional Regency romance novella, Patience Cherwell is resigned to a life of spinsterhood. Therefore, when her young friend, the lovely Lorna Hartley, comes to stay for a London season, she decides the eligible, handsome Lord Blackwood is the perfect match for Lorna. Granted, Lord Blackwood, at forty, is much older than the vivacious 20-year-old Lorna, but Patience is determined to help her young friend make a good match. So why isn’t she happy when his lordship and Lorna seem to like each other’s company? The problem is that Patience is already madly in love with his lordship!

An unexpected invitation arrives for Lorna and Patience to attend Lord Blackwood’s Valentine Ball. This is the perfect moment for him to propose to Lorna. Mysteriously, a corsage arrives from an anonymous admirer. Who is it for? And what will be the outcome for the wearer at Lord Blackwood’s Valentine Ball?

This novella is the prequel to The Lady’s Revenge.

Snippet:
For her part, Patience had noticed everything about Lord Blackwood in one massive burst of clarity, as if his physical proximity heightened all her senses. The cleft in his firm chin, the somewhat tired look in his eyes that might be the sadness Henrietta mentioned, the way his coat fitted him so well across the breadth of his shoulders, his height which made her feel small and delicate, and the manly aura he exuded. He wore subtle spiced cologne water that she found appealing and strangely sensual, although she had pushed that wicked thought away, lest it cause more blushes. His eyes were hazel, flecked with green, and he had long dark eyelashes and straight black brows. It was futile to be the least bit interested in Lord Blackwood because he was not at all attracted to her. His smile for Lorna was caressing—or did she just imagine it?—and his glance fell upon Lorna’s fiery tresses and rose petal complexion with tenderness—or did she imagine that as well?

What have I done? I was a fool not to wait for Mr. Whittaker. Oh, Gareth, if only you were here…

Thursday, December 6th, 2018

Arabella Sheraton grew up on a diet of Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, and many other writers of that period. From Jane Austen to Georgette Heyer, Arabella has found both enjoyment and inspiration in sparkling, witty Regency novels. She also loves history and generally finds the past more fascinating than the future. Arabella wrote her first Regency romance to entertain her aged mom who loved the genre. Arabella is honoured to share the adventures of her heroes and heroines with readers.

In this delightful traditional Regency romance, Miss Diana Dashwood accepts an invitation to Lady Prescott’s Christmas party at Camden House, in the countryside. But things do not go quite as she imagined. Through an unexpected event, she is forced to spend the night in a woodsman’s hut with one of the guests. What a scandal!
Of course, Sir Gareth Blakely must propose, and he does. Unfortunately, Miss Diana Dashwood has already been engaged to and broken off her engagement from Sir Gareth Blakely after a bitter quarrel. Is it likely she will bow to social pressure and accept his proposal, one made only to save her reputation, and if they marry, does their union stand a chance of survival?
And what about the pretty heiress, Miss Jemima Plymstock, whom everyone thinks is the lady Sir Gareth had his eye upon? Headstrong and proud, Miss Diana Dashwood is caught in a dreadful dilemma. A must-read for Regency fans!
Snippet:
Diana stepped into the carriage as if hypnotized and sat next to Miss Plymstock. “What are you going to do to me?” she asked.
Mr. Rundle put on an expression of exaggerated surprise while Miss Taggart giggled behind one black-gloved hand. He stroked his beard.
“My dear Miss Dashwood, you are so imaginative. You make me sound like a villain in these romantic novels so popular with young ladies nowadays. I am going to do nothing to you. You will witness the marriage, along with Miss Taggart. I will begin my honeymoon with my lovely young bride, and the carriage will return you to town. Then you will, no doubt, make your way back to London and forget all about Jemima.”
He gave a leering wink.
“She will be too busy learning her new marital duties as Mrs. Rundle to keep up any acquaintance with you.”
He knocked on the roof of the carriage to signal the driver. Miss Plymstock moaned but did not wake. Diana looked out of the carriage window as the horses gained speed.
What have I done? I was a fool not to wait for Mr. Whittaker. Oh, Gareth, if only you were here.

I didn’t really understand what love was

Sally lives in Arizona with her husband, four children, and their dog. She loves researching, hiking, and eating too much chocolate.”
“I didn’t really understand what love was.
I didn’t know what it meant, that I should’ve fought harder for it.”

Banished from home by her angry father, Julia Devon travels to Bath to fulfill her role as family spinster by assisting her cousin, Lady Macon, in caring for her dying husband.

Nathaniel Hastings’s life runs in a predictable pattern, until a routine visit to one of his ailing patients brings him face to face with Julia, the woman who broke his heart five years before in London.

Julia and Nathaniel find themselves unlikely allies as they work together to tend to the family’s needs, fend off Lady Macon’s scheming brother-in-law, and avoid confronting the pain of their shared past. But could this accidental meeting be their second chance at love?”

Snippet:
“Father did not approve and never would have. Nathaniel—Doctor Hastings—had dreams of becoming a physician. I could not ask him to wait for me, putting an added burden upon him, and I never
could’ve convinced Father.”

“But Julia, if you loved him—”

“I didn’t really understand what love was,” Julia said hastily. “I didn’t know what it meant, that I should’ve fought harder for it.”

The widowed Elise is a perfect English lady living within the confines of society for the sake of her impressionable young son. Her quiet world is shattered when she meets the impulsive and scandalous Jared Amesbury. His roguish charm awakens her yearning for adventure. But his irrepressible grin and sea-green eyes hide a secret.

A gentleman by day, a pirate by night, Jared must complete one last assignment from the Secret Service before he can be truly free. Elise gives him hope that he, too, can find love and belonging. His hopes are crushed when his best laid plans go awry and Elise is dragged into his world of violence and deceit. She may not survive the revelation of Jared’s past…or still love him when the truth is revealed.
The Guise of a Gentleman is a clean and wholesome Regency Romance, a.k.a. “clean” that explores finding one’s true self, loyalty, honor, and trusting loved ones. With plenty of swashbuckling action, it provides a several good twists that play off of familiar situations and proudly proclaims the redemptive power of love.

Snippet:
“You are a woman of great courage to face those cutthroats alone.”

His fingers closed around hers as if she were a lifeline. Her late husband’s hands had always been smooth and soft, the hands of a gentleman, so unlike this man’s calluses which bespoke hard work. She marveled at the strength in those hands, not to mention the tingles that traveled up her arm.

A flush crept over her face and she struggled to retain her composure. “I saw a cruel act and felt compelled to intervene. I could do nothing less.”

His eyes darted over her face and he said in a stronger voice, “Those men might have turned on you.”

“I’m an excellent shot.”

“And did you not consider that you may have been in danger from me?”

She suspected many women found him a very great danger, but not for the reason he spoke.

Swallowing against a dry mouth, she lifted her chin. “You hardly looked dangerous at the time. And I daresay you lack the strength to offer any threat now.”

The barest hint of a smile twitched his lips and a wicked light glinted in his sea-green eyes.

The
Campbell Brothers Trilogy Book 2

Fighting
alongside his two brothers, Garvin Campbell of Clan Campbell is
content to remain in the shadows. After all, he’s lived most of his
adult life as a Knight Templar, and that requires him being in the
shadows, not seen or heard. “Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed
Nomini tuo da gloriam; (Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto
thy Name, give glory).” That was the rule of the Templars until
they were forced to disband at the request of King Philip IV “the
Fair” of France.

Many
of the Order’s members in France were arrested and tortured. However,
Scotland did not get involved in the arrests and prosecution of the
Knights. There was no recognized king of the Scots, and with the
Bruce having already been excommunicated, the Roman church had little
say in Scottish politics, so Garvin returned to his clan to use his
skills in the fight against the English for Scottish
independence.

Having
been told all her life to avoid the Campbells, the last thing Lady
Helen is thinking about is falling in love with a Campbell, and a
Knight Templar at that. She is aware the Templar Knight has taken a
vow of abstinence, so when Garvin Campbell comes to her clan to
deliver the decree from Robert the Bruce, Helen is unprepared for the
connection she immediately feels for the knight. She dismisses it as
butterflies at meeting a knight, but fate has other plans for her and
Garvin, as he becomes her reason for living and he forgoes his
training of remaining in the shadows as he surrenders to love.

secrets, and hides more than her face behind the veil. The convent
has been her safe haven since she crawled, beaten and bloody, to its
door nine years ago. When an old enemy re-surfaces and threatens to
drag her back into the dark underworld from where she’d escaped,
both she and her dark pirate captain stand to lose everything they’ve
fought so hard to protect…including each other.
Either
commit treason or betray the woman he secretly loves. Betraying one
sends him to the guillotine, the other straight to hell.

~Award-Winning
Author~ Chloe Flowers writes historical women’s action and
adventure romance novels about scoundrels, pirates, and spunky,
independent heroines. She likes to challenge her characters by
tossing them the middle of actual historical events, or with real
historical characters.

Chloe
is a member of the Romance Writers of America, Northeast Ohio Romance
Writers and The Beau Monde Romance Writers group, where she serves as
secretary. In 2011, she formed the Sunshine Critique Group so that
she and other aspiring authors could motivate and challenge each
other to become better writers. Six members have been published. She
has given workshops and presentations on creating a critique group,
how to provide effective critiques, story structure, and
self-publishing lessons to writers groups, library patrons and
children. In 2014, she started her own small publishing company,
Flowers & Fullerton. Currently, she’s the publisher of record
for authors Sheridan Jeane, H.O. Knight as well as herself.

Whether
it’s dancing naked in a downpour at 3AM, zip-lining in a
rainforest, or racing ponies, Chloe’s always looking for the next
adventure. Her pets have always been named after favorite characters
or action heroes: Indiana, Luke, Gimli, Thelma, Rocket, Forrest, Al
Giordino, Severus, Mushu, Mérida, Gibbs, Jack…Dead Pool (he’s a
goldfish).

Chloe’s
biggest fault is her apparent inability to say “no” whether it’s
in response to a call for aid or a double-dog-dare to hike home
through 30 acres of a snow-covered forest at midnight…during a full
moon. It was early morning during said adventure when she came upon a
group of sheriff’s deputies searching for a lost girl. So, of
course she offered to help. Turns out, they were searching for
her.

In
addition to her addiction to adrenaline, she has a weakness for good
red wine, dark chocolate and brown-eyed guys with beards, which is
probably why she digs pirates and treasure hunters and writes about
action and adventure, pirates and romance (which is the greatest
adventure of all).

mistrust?

Athena
Hawthorne never imagined that she would lose everything she’d ever
had. But after the death of her father, his prosperous jewelry store
is sold off to pay his supposed debts. Athena, now destitute, embarks
on a mission to discover the truth, but circumstances force her to
accept an offer from a handsome stranger to work as a governess.
She’s determined to clear her father’s name, but a certain earl is
making matters far more difficult than necessary. And she can’t be in
danger of losing her heart to a member of the aristocracy…

Orion
Ashcroft, the Earl of Rockford, is convinced that Athena is a
grasping thief who stole a priceless family heirloom, the rare
sapphire known as the Couleur Magnifique. When he offers her the
position of governess to his sister’s children, he only intends to
catch her in some nefarious scheme and get back the sapphire-his
grandmother’s dying wish. But he soon discovers that keeping his
distance-and his sanity-around the beautiful Athena isn’t as easy
as he’d planned. It certainly doesn’t help that his sister and his
best friend plead her innocence at every frustrating turn. Soon he’s
struggling between honoring his promise and his growing attraction to
Athena.

But
there’s danger closer than either expect. Even a masquerade can’t
hide Athena from the curiosity of the ton forever…and there’s a
threat hiding among the highest members of society…

Redeeming
Lord Ryder
Cotswold
Confidential #3
by
Maggie Robinson
Genre:
Historical Romance
Return
to the scandalous secrets of the English countryside’s renowned
getaway for R&R—restoration and romance—in this delightful
series from Maggie Robinson!
After
two months of treatment at Puddling-on-the-Wold, Mary Nicola Mayfield
has shown no improvement, and her condition seems impervious to
rehab. But Nicola is not the typical guest of Gloucestershire’s
destination village for the wealthy and wayward. The trauma of
surviving a horrific train wreck has rendered her mute; her injuries
have healed, but try as she might, she cannot utter a sound. With her
family and fiancé at their wits’ end, Nicola knows Puddling is the
resort—the last resort—that holds any hope for her recovery.
Lord
Jack Ryder—baron, businessman and, some say, mad genius—has gone
from the heights of success to hit rock bottom, after a faulty girder
from his iron foundry caused a dreadful bridge collapse. Nothing has
assuaged his guilt over the passenger train that crashed or the lives
that were destroyed. The stringent regimen at Puddling is not doing
much for his deep depression—until he meets his mysteriously silent
neighbor. Their fiery affair breaks all the rules, but will the
unspoken truth be too hot to handle?

Maggie
Robinson didn’t know she wanted to write until she woke up in the
middle of the night once really annoyed with her husband. Instead of
smothering him with a pillow, she decided to get up and write—to
create the perfect man—at least on a computer screen. Only to
discover that fictional males can be just as resistant to direction
as her husband. The upside is that she’s finally using her English
degree and is still married to her original, imperfect hero. Since
she’s imperfect, too, that makes them a perfect match. Until her
midnight keyboarding, she had been a teacher, librarian, newspaper
reporter, administrative assistant to two non-profits, community
volunteer, and mother of four in seven different states. Now Maggie
can call herself a romance writer in Maine. There’s nothing she
likes better than writing about people who make mistakes, but don’t
let the mistakes make them.

Author Interview

When did you start writing, and was there a specific event or person who influenced you to become an author?

I’m thinking it was in 1983. I was counseled against not to be a writer then, because that was before the advent of the home computers. So I didn’t pursue it at that time. I really set down to write in 2005 after reading a novel that was so bad I threw it across the room with a defiant stomp of my foot ( pretty awesome for a wheelchair bound individual.) I said “I could write better than this!” My hubby said “Then why don’t you?” That was how I started writing and although my early attempts will never see the light of day, I still have them.

How many books do you have out, and do you have a favorite?

I’m guessing seven. but my favorite character is still in the wings with my fantasy read. I guess Gideon is my favorite because I have lived with him longer than any of the rest of them.

How do you come up with character names?

Wow, I really don’t think of that much. I find myself looking at the name that scroll after a movie. But usually I have names that resonate with me for one reason of another. I remember Farley–that was a surname of a beloved author in my youth and one my sister came up with.

Do you have a favorite author?

I don’t have a favorite author. I guess I’m drawn more by the books cover.

What is some of your favorite or memorable books that you’ve read?

I’m thinking of Jane Austin and her Pride and Prejudice

What is one piece of advice you could give to a new author that you wish someone had passed to you?

Write up to the caliber of writing you would read yourself, over and over again. I never received that tidbit and if I had, I may not have my second book out yet but that would be okay. You see, I’m terribly disappointed in the caliber of writers that have flooded the market now.

Do you have any pets? I don’t have any pets currently although I had three shih-tzus recently. They have all gone the way of the world.

A transplanted Scot, Margery now lives on a lake in Canada.
Although she grew up as far away from the old west as possible, she’s always had a love affair
with the men and women who settled the untamed land west of the Mississippi.
Glued to TV westerns like Maverick, Rawhide and Gunsmoke, and reading stories
of Annie Oakley, Roy Rogers and Rin Tin Tin, it was only natural that when she started writing, she wrote what she loved to watch and read. When she’s not writing or travelling in search of the perfect setting for her next novel, you can usually find her wielding a pair of knitting needles or a pool cue.

Mr. Withers sat across from them, a
stack of papers spread out for easy access. He first read all the parts of the
will that pertained to Grant, and then he read the parts that pertained to
Sybil. He then took an envelope, passed it across the table to Sybil, and
advised her to visit the bank after leaving his office.
“You deducted the money spent on me
in America, I’m sure?” Sybil asked as she tucked the envelope into her
reticule.
“Actually, I’d like you to consider
your time in America as a gift from me,” Grant said. He felt terrible about
everything that had happened, and if he could ease his conscience in any way,
he would do it.
She turned to him with eyes of fire.
“I beg your pardon?”
“Please, it’s a gift. You deserve the
full sum of your inheritance.”
She sat up a little straighter. “Do
you mean to tell me that I’m to consider the clothing and the stay in the
Palace Hotel a gift? Lord Douglas, that might be one of the most offensive
things anyone has ever said to me. No respectable woman, whether high bred or
low, would accept such personal things from a man. It’s insulting and
demeaning.” She pulled the envelope back out and tossed it at him. “I
respectfully request that you remove the appropriate amount of money from that
envelope, sir.”
Grant was thoroughly taken aback.
“Honestly, Sybil, I had no idea—”
“Miss James will suit, Lord Douglas.”
Her voice was so cold and her eyes were so hard, he had no reasonable choice
but to open the envelope and withdraw some of the money. He couldn’t remember
all the sums, so he made a guess and passed the envelope back to her. “Thank
you. Now I believe I’ll be on my way.”

A.S. Fenichel

Genre: Historical Romance

Pub
Date: 9/26/2017

An
unexpected promise . . . an everlasting passion.
An
accomplished musician, Dorothea Flammel has refused more proposals
than any London debutante; her only true love is her music. Dory’s
shimmering talent and beauty have long been adored from afar by
Thomas Wheel, an untitled gentleman who can only dream of asking for
the hand of a nobleman’s daughter. But when her father, the
insolvent Lord Flammel, arranges for Dory to marry a lecherous Earl
in order to pay off a debt, she runs to Thomas—and proposes
marriage to him.
Eloping
to Scotland saves Dory from a disastrous fate, but what is for her a
mere marriage of convenience proves more passionate—and more
complex—than either imagined as rumors, scandal, and buried
emotions come to light. And when a vengeful challenge from a drunken
and embittered Lord Flammel puts Thomas’s life on the line, will
the fragile trust between husband and wife be enough to save them
both?

A.S.
Fenichel
adores
writing stories filled with love, passion, desire, magic and maybe a
little mayhem tossed in for good measure. Books have always been her
perfect escape and she still relishes diving into one and staying up
all night to finish a good story. Originally from New York, she grew
up in New Jersey. She now lives in the southwest with her real life
hero, her wonderful husband. When she is not reading or writing she
enjoys cooking, travel, history and puttering in her garden.

exiled royalty and espionage combine, expect a romance as bold as the
1920s . . .
Olga
Novikov is a princess without a throne. Her fiancé and her family
slain in the revolution, she flees Russia and finds herself working
as the head of housekeeping at London’s luxurious Grand Russe
Hotel. It’s a far cry from the glamour of her former life, but
she’s grateful for the job—until a guest forces her to question
where her loyalty lies. The charming nobleman challenges her at every
turn—and arouses dreams of romance she thought she’d abandoned
forever . . .
Douglas
“Glass” Childers is living a double life. On the surface, he’s
the indolent Viscount Walling, but in truth he’s an intelligence

and headstrong housekeeper is a distraction he doesn’t need—unless
she’s the key piece in the puzzle he must solve. Trusting her could
be dangerous—but loving her is an undeniable temptation . . .

Heather
Hiestand was born in Illinois but her family migrated west before she
started school. Since then she has claimed Washington State as home,
except for a few years in California. She wrote her first story at
age seven and went on to major in creative writing at the University
of Washington. Her first published fiction was a mystery short story,
but since then it has been all about the many flavors of romance.
Heather’s first published romance short story was set in the
Victorian period and she continues to return, fascinated by the rapid
changes of the nineteenth century. The author of many novels,
novellas and short stories, she makes her home in a small town with
her husband and son and supposedly works out of her tiny office,
though she mostly writes in her easy chair in the living room.
