Stephanie
Mirro’s lifelong love of ancient mythology led to majoring in the
Classics in college, which wasn’t quite as much fun as writing her
own mythology stories as she did as a child. But that education,
combined with an overactive imagination and being an avid fantasy
reader, resulted in a writing career.

Starting
her days with coffee and ending them with wine means Stephanie can
usually be found juggling household chores, keeping the kids alive,
and trying to write, edit, publish, and market the stories that haunt
her dreams.

Born
and raised in Southern Arizona, Stephanie now resides in Northern
Virginia with her husband, two kids, and two furbabies. This thing
called “seasons” is still magical.

Top Ten List

1) Anthing to do with animals, especially dogs and horses. My favorite horse breed is the Friesian, which is why I put one in my novels. I also own two rescue dogs and support many animal charities.

2) Singing, especially folk-style songs. I also sing in my local church choir.

3) Chocolate!!

4) Dragons and (I have to admit!) unicorns. I have collected figurines and statues of dragons and unicorns since I was small and have a vast collection, some of which live outdoors. But I don’t like “twee”, only ones that look like they could be real.

5) Reading, especially fantasy and sci-fi.

6) Country walks.

7)All wildlife, especially butterflies. I used to breed and release UK varieties, and belong to the Butterfly Conservation Society.

8) Did I mention chocolate?

9) Spending time with family members.

10) Playing my bodhran (Irish drum). I can’t read music so decided to take up drumming instead! It’s fun and very theraputic.

Excerpt #1

The peculiar smile that crossed the face of the Ranger eluded the two candidates. He pressed a button on the black plastic box on the right side of his desk and asked his secretary to bring in two contracts.

While there was a lull in the conversation, the Ranger felt compelled to inform his recruits of a few inconsequential matters.

“You know…” He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and offered one to his guests. “Most of these jobs are anywhere from 100 to 250 miles from any real civilization.”

The recruits were thinking, good…no supervision.

“The job can be a little dangerous sometimes.” Eric and Mickey gave each other the smile that said, ‘We laugh in the face of death.’

As the secretary popped through the door, the Ranger spoke as if he were conversing with the plant in corner of his office. “Yeah, we’ve lost fifteen men in the last five years.”

“Lost…lost…like they got lost in the woods…somebody misplaced them?” Eric glanced at the application; suddenly it looked like a coiled serpent.

The Ranger put on a serious face that could have come out of any horror movie. “No. Lost…like in dead, or at least missing.”

She
is chosen.

When
Atlantis fell into the sea, a single creature survived–a scarlet
phoenix. She escaped with ancient man’s historical record, The
Great Book of Forgetting. This book recorded mankind’s every legend
and prophecy. Only the Archangel of Death understood man’s survival
depended on the fulfillment of one particular prophecy, that of the
scarlet phoenix.

Rhea
is the scarlet phoenix, transmuted into human form with wings of
fire. She hides The Great Book from those seeking to steal it and
prevent the prophecy. The Archangel befriends and protects her as he
watches her traverse time and mold history. She is the proverbial
rose that blooms in a future garden.

Jean-Louis
Riviere is an aristocrat who became a vampire during the American
Revolution. He is haunted by an ill wind whispering strange and
incredible possibilities. His family ties will lure those who wish to
destroy the prophecy; however, the Archangel also knows his blood is
all that will save the rose and secure the future

Drahomira
is a gypsy, a bastard princess, and a vampire. The Archangel of Death
chose her to protect the phoenix because she is an irreverent killer
but loyal to family. She will journey across continents and be the
catalyst that brings Rhea and Jean-Louis together. First, she must
leave her people, her throne, and her lover, cross a continent for
vengeance, die, and be reborn. Only then will she discover that she
is the rose’s legendary thorn in the Evening Bower.

About the Narrator
Born in the eighties, her formative years in the nineties, Rebecca’s taste in music and fashion never really had a chance. Fortunately, you can’t tell these things from her writing or voice over work. Her first novel, Trespasser, is as dark as her neon is bright, and you’d never guess from hearing her that she’s narrating science fiction in nothing but unicorn pants.

Currently residing in London, Rebecca is passionate about travel, and has a good- albeit sometimes dubious- ear for accents. She graduated from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama with a degree in something or other, has a background in musical theatre, a past career in burlesque, and is a classically trained opera singer. Oh, and she likes greyhounds. And wine.

Review:
“Cas Peace’s Artesans of Albia trilogy immediately sweeps you away:  the drama starts with King’s Envoy, continues unabated in King’s Champion, and climaxes in King’s Artesan, yet each volume is complete, satisfying.  The Artesan series  propels you into a world so deftly written that you see, feel, touch, and even smell each twist and turn. These nesting novels are evocative, hauntingly real. Smart. Powerful. Compelling. The trilogy teems with finely drawn characters, heroes and villains and societies worth knowing; with stories so organic and yet iconic you know you’ve found another home—in Albia. So start reading now. I, for one, can’t wait to find out what will happen next.

I enjoyed the reading of King’s Envoys; Artesans of Albia by Cas Peace and narrated by Rebecca. It was full of emotions, clear and well done.  The narrator does a great job with the reading and it flows smoothly. The Artesan Series  takes you into a world where you can imagine every detail of the descriptions in the tale. It is a most entertaining tale, full of twists and turns that will compel you to keep reading it to the end. It is great for readers of high fantasy and lovers of good narrated books.

Snippet From King’s Champion:
Sullyan cantered Drum across the plains for the first mile or so, weaving through the trees, Robin and Marik at her back. Then she slowed the stallion to a brisk walk, allowing the other two to catch up. She made for the high road leading directly to the fortress gates, seeing with satisfaction that they were the only people on the road. Warning Marik and Robin to keep their hands well away from their sword hilts, she rode confidently forward, eyes narrowed against the snow glare.
The Count nudged his horse up on her left side, a gloomy expression on his face. “I expect the sentries and outriders will see us soon.”
She gave a snort. “My dear Count, there have been loaded crossbows aimed at our hearts for the past half hour.”
Marik started and looked wildly about, but there was no one in sight. Sullyan continued in silence, highly visible on the coal-black Drum. Her borrowed longsword reared in its harness over her shoulder.
They were about a mile and a half from the gates when the sentries rode out of cover and confronted them. Sullyan immediately halted in the middle of the road, waiting for the twenty-strong patrol to approach. Marik and Robin flanked her. She studied the Hierarch’s men with professional interest. The purple and gold of his livery was evident on their combat leathers, and their leader bore a Lieutenant’s rank insignia, the equivalent of an Albian Captain. A medium height man in his middle thirties, he halted his men a few paces from Sullyan and rode forward alone. He sat his dark bay stallion easily and his hand never left the hilt of his sword, despite the ready crossbows behind him.
He ignored Robin, swept Marik a contemptuous glance, and then turned his attention to Sullyan. He regarded her for a few moments, his pale brown eyes taking in her gold insignia, her battle honors, and King’s Envoy shooting star. When he addressed her, his tone was barely respectful, the attitude of a confident man unused to dealing with armed women.
“Major.” He gave her a slight nod, the only sign of respect she would get.
“Lieutenant.” She accorded him the same bare courtesy, giving her voice an identical inflexion.

His eyes narrowed as he reassessed her, taking in her relaxed but alert attitude and the casual way she sat the huge black stallion with its light saddle and bitless bridle. His own mount bore the usual heavy cavalry saddle that could keep a dying man upright, and foam was dripping from the iron bit in its mouth.

If you were here, I would tell you about what I saw

Wednesday, August 1st, 2018

Born just outside of Rome, Flavia
Brunetti grew up bouncing back and forth between Italy and California,
eventually moving back to the Eternal City and confirming her lifelong commitment to real gelato.

Flavia holds a Master of Arts degree in Government and Politics from St. John’s
University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from John Cabot
University.
Today she travels the world working for an international humanitarian organization and spends her free time writing and wandering around her beloved Roma in constant search of bookstores and the perfect espresso.

You can find her city blog on Rome at whichwaytorome.com and her portfolio of published writing at flaviinrome.com.

Until her dad died, Little considered herself a Californian. Now, thanks to half a letter, a symbol she can’t quite
remember, and writer’s block, she finds herself back in Italy, the country of her birth. In a headlong rush to return to her beloved San Francisco, Little
will travel throughout Italy, enlisting the help of the aunt who raised her, friends old and new, and the country itself, in her search for the answers she
needs.

This is the powerful story of those in search of a balance between wanderlust and the necessity to come home, a reminder that although we may be fragments, we are never a lost cause.

If you were here, I
would tell you about what I saw, and I would say,
Papà, I think Italy is an artery. Jarring in its incredible ability
to become lifeblood not just for the people who are from here, but also for the
people who only come for a little while, or who have never been here at all but
dream of it nonetheless. If Italy is blood, then it is the vibrant color of
that which has gathered oxygen and will sweep from the heart to the entire
being. An arterial nation.

The
Quinnipiac Disappearance
Tawnee
Mountain Mysteries Book 7
by
Lee Tidball

“Down
in South Jersey, you got your Jersey Devil and the Pine Barrens.
Up here, we got E.T.s and Quinnipiac.”

So
says Alan Riddiak, NSA field agent Jake Farrister’s friend, as they
rent kayaks at Quinnipiac Reservoir, site of what locals say was the
most credible mass sighting of a UFO in human history, and just miles
from the swanky Tawnee Mountain Resort, where Alan’s boss, revered
Senator Grant Bilson of New Jersey, is on an August recess
retreat.
“

Ok…”
smirks Jake.

But
smirks turn to shock when two bizarre disappearances and an attempted
murder suck the rest out of the retreat, and Senator Bilson
commissions Jake to solve the mysteries.

Jake
finds nothing but frustration, though, until he finally concedes what
quirky new friend Nikki Hayes has told him all along; when it comes
to Quinnipiac, the only explanations are inexplicable, the only
believable witnesses are unbelievable, and in order to stop the
world-shattering plot at the heart of the mysteries, Jake must do
what he thought was unthinkable—and hope he’s not too late.

By
day I am a technical writer, and by night and on weekends I am
an artist and creative writer.  Having lived  in
Phoenix, AZ for 20+ years with my husband Tim, I found the urban
wilderness to be endlessly fascinating. Our home was tucked up
against South Mountain, the largest city park in the U.S. The canal
that ran across the base of the mountain provided inspiration
for painting, drawing, and writing with sitings of wild
coyotes, skittering fluffs of newborn quail, lizards, constant
change…and stories of life and death. In December 2017, we moved to
a beach in Florida, which is whole ‘nother story!

I’m a retired high school English teacher. A devourer of books growing up, my profession introduced me to writings and authors from times long past. Through my studies and teaching, I fell in love with the Ancient and
Medieval Worlds. Now, I hope to inspire young readers and those Young-at-Heart to read more through my Tales and Legends for Reluctant Readers set in these worlds-Ancient Egypt, Medieval Wales, and coming soon, a hair-raising adventure through ancient worlds in search of 5 rare Phoenix Feathers.
All of my books come with Free study guides and/or extensive
Back-of-the-Book materials.
My husband and I love to travel. In 2008, we spent three weeks in
Egypt traveling by local train from one end of the country to the other; in 2014, we spent three weeks in the UK driving over 1700 miles through England, Wales, and Scotland; and in 2016, we spent a week in Iceland. We’ve also traveled to Mexico, Jamaica, and Aruba. Our next big adventure will be to Greece and Italy.

When I’m not writing or traveling, our 4 grandkids keep us busy.

  1. When did you start writing and was there a specific event or person who influenced you to become as author?

I’ve been writing for a long time; I wrote my first poem in eighth grade. My college years and my teaching career solidified my love of the ancient world and the times of King Arthur. It wasn’t until I retired from teaching literature and writing that I had the time to devote to my own tales which had roamed around in my head for years.

  1. Are you currently working on a project, and if so, can you tell us about it?

Yes and yes! I have started a new five book series Feathers of the Phoenix, and the first book The Atlantean Horse. Rose from Sons of the Sphinx will share the spotlight in this series with her cousin Jerome. Both of them have special abilities that they are struggling to live with and still be teenagers. The adventure revolves around an old prophecy that says one day when the five feathers of the Phoenix bird are reunited with a white stallion and one-who-survived—both of which were saved from destruction by Poseidon when he destroyed Atlantis—the lost island will rise again long enough for all three to return to their home. It will then disappear forever. Naturally there are those who want to be at the rising in order to steal the treasures rumored to be in that lost city.

  1. What is your favorite writing snack?

Red licorice.

  1. If you could have dinner with any of your characters, which ones would you choose and why? What food would you serve?

I would love to sit with young Guinevere from my Guinevere trilogy, but I’m a picky eater. There’s very little food from Medieval times that I would eat.

  1. How do you relax, or what do you enjoy doing when you are not writing?

I love spending time with our grandkids. We two boys, ages 9 & 4, and two girls, ages 2 & 1. They are a lively bunch and keep us running.

  1. What’s your largest unfulfilled dream, and what are you doing to reach it?

Traveling. I want to visit those places in the ancient and medieval worlds—whose literature I taught–that I’ve read and written about. We’ve done Egypt, Wales, England, Iceland, but have a lot more to explore. Every other year we pick a destination and plan a 3-week trip. Due for the next one in 2018. Wonder where we’ll go?

  1. What do you fear most?

Losing those I care for most. We’ve had a lot of loses in our family in the past, and just in the last nine months, we have said goodbye to three.

  1. What advice would you give someone who wants to write a book some day?

Ask yourself these questions:

What type of story do you want to write?

Who are you writing for?

How will your characters/plot appeal to readers?

Why do you want to write?

The Possibilities of Sainthood
 By: Donna Freitas for Ijustfinished.com

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Donna has created a great tale with lots of Italian flavor in its pages. Her characters are believable and easy to relate too. I enjoyed the cover, it is a picture perfect of its content. The story, its characters, and the many saints that Antonia prays to are very real in the protagonist’s life.

Antonia, the main character, is a fifteen-year-old catholic schoolgirl living in the world of today. Like many other girls her age, she spends hours trying to figure out a way that her knee high uniform looks cool, beneath her mother’s strict scrutiny. However, unlike many girls her age, she knows and keeps a diary of a zillion saints (more…)
