The Treasure of Isian by Serena Clarke a great book for YA

Tuesday, December 25th, 2012

The Treasure of Asian is an interesting tale about a servant girl who must do what the prince commands. Elani grows up with the prince and they learn many things together: sword fighting, riding horses, hunting, and such. When the prince takes Elani with him to hunt a treasure, he never imagines how this trip will change their lives forever. They have to battle giants, women warriors, a water witch, and poison plants all to get a special treasure that all want, but only the right person can use.

The story starts a bit slow, yet soon draws you in, and won’t let you go. This is a good young adult novel with all the right things to make it your favorite. The romance is cute and clean.

A readersfavorite.com review.

The Miracle Mixer is a really interesting, refreshing tale. It is well written and interestingly done. It has at least three different situations going on at the same time, but not in an intrusive way. The author did a great job keeping the reader interested in everything going on. I like the way the story is told and the role the character Reeshanna plays in it. She is lovable, naïve and in a great danger. (more…)

Birth of the Half Elves by H. L. Watson

This high fantasy tale is creative. Though elves are in it, it isn’t a copy of Lord of the Rings by any means. It is a fresh point of view about a race that is a favorite of many. This fantasy will take the reader to a new land where you will find battles, loyalty, traditions, and love. (more…)

Imperial Hostage Book 1 of the Destruction Trilogy by Phil Cantrill

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

This is a good story that will be liked by older teens and adults. It has its share of mythological creatures like birdmen, centaurs, giant poisonous hounds and more along with all the human races in the tale. It is a great book to learn about friendship, loyalty, and what the power of knowledge can bring to a child until he turns into a man.

Erech is the prince of Pelasgoi and the next king of his people. As such he is taken from his home when he is ten years old to be trained in the customs of other kingdoms within the Temple of Bal. Many hardships come to him there, none less than the time he was naked, being readied for sacrifice in the Temple of Bal. (more…)

This is an audio book based on the feature from Universal Picture, read by Tim Curry

This is a charming audio story that is told in an entertaining way. The voice is pleasant and animated enough to keep the kids’ attention. It is the story of Gru, an unsavory character, who lives in a suburban house in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. Unlike his neighbors, Gru lives in a black house with a dead lawn. He has under his command a million yellow minions who do his every wish. (more…)
