Take
care what you wish for. You just might get it.

Twelve-year-old
Casey doesn’t think life could get any more unfair. Plans for her
special basketball tournament are tossed aside by her sister’s
wedding plans. She even has to be a bridesmaid now, with all the lace
and silk and—oh, the horror! All she wants is an escape, but she
never imagined she’d be swept away to a world of Mother Goose
rhymes, fairy tales, stories of Arabian Nights, and oh, by the way,
all but one fairy godmother has been kidnapped.

Casey
learns she’s been summoned as the Fable Ranger to lead the search
and rescue of the missing wish-makers. But she’s not the hero they
want. In the world of fairy tales, damsels aren’t meant to swoop in
and save the day.

Now
all Casey wants is to go home, but the veil between worlds is on
lockdown. Taking fate into her own hands, she embarks on an airship
flight to find the phoenix tears that can open her way home. Her
journey would’ve gone as smooth as the perfect layup if it weren’t
for that pesky bounty the evil Dovetail has placed on her head. But
if Casey fails, the Arabian Nights will disappear forever—and leave
her trapped in a world unraveling one fairy tale at a time.

Malak, Desert Child…Thefirst time I saw her she melted the ice in my soul

Monday, April 8th, 2019
Malak,
Desert Child
The
Boy Who Sailed to Spain Book 2
by
Paul Ogarra
Genre:
Magical Realism Fiction

The
first time I saw her she melted the ice in my soul.
Malak
is a tiny beautiful five-year-old girl child. She lives in a cave in
dire poverty with her drunkard father and her Saharoui mother and
sister. Her enemies are all the towns children who victimize her and
her sister because of their race and condition. Her only friend is a
single mother named Latifa, and Malak´s grandmother Jeeda Hazzah who
dies of cancer.
But
Malak is the champion of her family against a violent father and the
children of the Zoco who she fights singlehandedly. This is a magical
and often mystical story of a young girl and the people she stumbles
upon, as she is rushed away by her uncertain destiny, to the land in
which her mother was born, the Sahara Desert. The unravelling of
Malak’s story is also the unsnarling of the web of intrigue
surrounding the North of Africa, and it´s peoples and history, and
the reasons for many current dilemmas in this land of witchcraft and
mystery.
The
tale begins in earnest when a wandering ex-warrior happens on the
child and is struck by her magnificent courage and beauty. After a
significant episode with her drunken father and his cronies, having
interceded on the family´s behalf, he flees with them on a stolen
high-speed cruiser heading for Western Sahara and freedom. In the
course of their errant journey, they are taken into threatening
custody by the Algerian police. Malak´s personality and mystic
nature make of her the flux in an adventure which begins as a race to
return her to her maternal grandfather´s family. A flight of mercy
will become a race against time as Malak and her friends take on the
impossible. In this, they enlist the help of many tribespeople. Some
tribes known to all and others lost in the wastes of the mysterious
desert and the annals of history. The story comes to an emotional and
pent up conclusion in the least expected possible fashion.

Gibraltar on the 8th May 1952. Paul and his three siblings were the
children of
schoolteachers
and were reared with English discipline, immersed in romantic
literature on the one hand, and a large local family of uncles,
aunts, cousins and a doting grandmother, who was Spanish from Cadiz,
on the other.
Childhood
was spent roaming across the Up South
,
Rosia
,
and Europa point areas of Gibraltar engaging in childish games and
adventures, reading
extensively
books such as Enid Blyton’ adventure series, ‘Famous Five
,’
‘Secret Seven
,’
‘Swallows and Amazons Forever
,’
John Buchan and the ‘Gorbals Die-hards
.’
Saturday mornings were a day for avoiding the displeased grimaces of
monocled and
overweight

colonels, delving and searching through the shelves of the old
Garrison library to discover new horizons, characters
,
and
stories. The journey of discovery that had begun with Baba the
Elephant eventually began to grow richer as the classics
were
devoured
.

In
1967
, he looked on
as fellow students of Jewish persuasion prepare to leave for Tel Aviv
to defend Israel. Shortly after, the
arrival
of General Moshe Dayan at the gates of Cairo, signaled to the world
that Israel´s direst moment had
been
overcome
. Paul, at the earliest time
possible,
set off in a steamer from Tangiers, sailing to Southampton
.
After a spell
in London,
he left the UK to discover his roots in Malta
.
He alternated callings as a tour guide of Morocco and recoverer of
broken down rented cars in the desert, tour guide of south Spain and
eventually running a flamenco club on the Costa del Sol, in the days
when the Costa was still a new and exciting place to visit.
Eventually,
he set off again to discover new places in the Middle, the
Far
East and the
Philippines,
and when Perestroika and Glasnost finally arrived at the hands of
Mihail Gorbacheff and the Soviet Union was open, set off to discover
the East there. He studied Russian at St Petersburg and spent time
travelling to the Republic of Udmurtia, Kazan, Siberia and up an
uncharted river to meet Tribes that still lived in the area. Later to
Nizhny Novgorod and the South Volga, then to
the
Ukraine
travelling from city to city,
falling more and more in love with the great Russian writers and
painters as he went. Seventeen years ago at the age of fifty, Paul
contracted renal
cancer.
He was operated on successfully at the Bullfighters Hospital in
Pamplona in North Spain. Metastasis was practically impossible the
surgeons happily reported. Two years later
the
cancer
metastasised to his lungs on which
he
was duly operated,
and half of his
lungs
were removed.
Later for reasons undefined he suffered strokes in both eyes and lost
partial sight in one eye and total in the left which he duly
recovered by swimming and praying. Seventeen years have gone by since
the renal cancer
was first discovered,
and seven years since his last operation and everything is fine,
remission seems to be total.
Paul’s
still swims at least one or two kilometres per day all year round,
travels, practises martial arts and fervently believes that the Lord
leads him by the hand. After leaving the
hospital
he spent some time in Tangiers, hairless, gaunt and on crutches, but
enjoying the warmth and affection of many new friends there. Then off
to Prague to study filmmaking, made several shorts but finally
decided that he would first write and then make movies when the time
came.

Improbable Wonders of Moojie Littleman

Early
1900s, Western America. A lonely, disabled boy with a nasty temper

narrative recall great works of fiction that explore the universal
desire to belong.

***** Bod the Littlest Dinosaur written and Illustrated by Karlie Lucas

This is a cute tale of how a small dinosaur wants to grow big. He goes to see a wizard and travels through different places to get there. He learns several lessons on his journey to make his wish come true.

Beautiful colored illustrations are found in each page of this book. They are sensible, clear, and cute, not too busy or huge, just perfect for the page. This will be a great addition to any child’s library and can be used to read along with a parent, or alone by a child.

***** Bob the Littlest Dinosaur and the Color Fairy written and Illustrated by Karlie Lucas

In this tale, Bob the littlest Dinosaur wakes up one morning to find all the colors gone from his land. His new friend, the gnome, says it is the bad wizard. He suggests that Bob go to the land of the color fairy and ask them to return color to him and his land. The color fairies aren’t very helpful, with the exception of one. She is different, like Bob. Once again, Bob and the reader are reminded that we should celebrate our differences.

It is nicely done and well expressed. It is suitable for second graders and up, or read by a parents to younger kids.

My parents were brave and honorable…I am neither of these

Shadow’s
Hand
The
Shadow’s Creed Saga Book 1
by
Noelle Nichols
Genre:
Epic Fantasy

I
used to believe our morals were absolute.

I
no longer am certain.

Imposters
pose as our Shadow group, spreading panic and killing innocents
across the lands. These False Shadows wield a magic in its infancy, a
power they call the Skills. There’s great potential to this power,
but a menacing undertone taints those who wield it. Their intentions
are sinister, without purpose, and their morals, questionable.

I
am Kilo, a Shadow of Vaiyene, and I vow to put an end to these False
Shadows. My friends have been killed. My homeland, threatened. These
imposters know our weakness, and they seek to exploit who we are. I
fear before the end, I may forsake the very creed I’ve lived my
life by. Despite this, I must persist and find a way to return peace
to the lands. I will become the strength our people need.

My
parents were brave and honorable.

I
am neither of these.

This
is no longer the world my parents knew. Peace is threatened in
Vaiyene and across the lands. The False Shadows have attacked, and
despite our Phantoms reassurance, I am not naïve enough to believe
we are safe.

I
am Shenrae, one of the next generation of Shadows. My comrades doubt
me, as I often doubt myself, but I have no other choice than to
fight. The Phantoms cannot protect us for long. Soon, I will have to
find my place, and my strength, or I will lose everything I have
left.

Shadow’s
Hand is the first book in a heroic epic fantasy, inspired by Japan’s
samurai and their warrior code Bushido. It’s a story about the
makings of a hero and the hero’s sacrifice. If you like characters
with strong morals, fast-paced epic storytelling and exploring
magic’s morality, you’ll love The Shadow’s Creed Saga. Pick up a
copy today and join Kilo and Shenrae on their heart-twisting journey
to restore peace.

Hello,
I’m Noelle. A writer, a creator and most of all a dreamer.

We
have the opportunities, both as writers and readers, to experience
people who are better than ourselves. Flawed still, but people who go
against all odds, perhaps too great for us in real life to aspire to.
They speak grander, fight against magical forces and live in a place
where imagination and dreams can thrive. This is why I write Fantasy.
Within my characters I find the strength and hope for a better
tomorrow, one that can be more fantastical and beyond reality. It’s
these characters that I wish to write, and these journeys I want to
take my reader’s on.

I’ve been
writing my trilogy, The Shadows Creed Saga, for the past five years.
The original idea came to me back in high school where I had the
support of many of my English teachers to continue writing the book.
However, I realized that in order to write a good book, I needed to
have experienced life more. I needed to lose someone close. I needed
to have my heartbroken. I needed to know what it was like to really
love someone, and what it means to be loved. So, I put my book away
and came back to it eight years later. I feel that I can instill my
life experiences into my characters now and really understand
them.

I now feel I have the
discipline, experience and imagination needed to bring the books to
publication. For now, this is my records to publication and my
writing process. My only wish is to write books that take people on a
journey, and feel that perhaps they have a friend and someone to
aspire to within the pages.

Seventeen-year-old Emma Harris is drowning on dry land.

No one knows what’s happening to her, and she’d like to keep her evolution from
human to mermaid a secret, but the truth is getting harder and harder to hide.
From her adoptive family, from her friends, and especially from the irresistible James Phelps.

Her time in the ocean is spent dodging a possessive merman, while her time on land is split between caring for her special-needs brother and squeezing in every last possible moment of human life. She soon realizes falling for James is unavoidable when he constantly comes to Emma’s rescue and somehow manages to see through her carefully constructed icy facade to the vulnerability she lives
with every day. Everything about James makes Emma yearn for a life on land she just can’t have.

When Emma’s brother disappears on her watch, James is the only person she
trusts to help her save him. But even if they can save her brother, nothing can
prevent her return to the sea. Whether she likes it or not, Emma is
changing—unable to breathe without yielding to the tide—and it’s only a matter
of time before she’s forced to surrender forever.

Lieutenant
Peters made another note, then pocketed his notebook and stood, frowning. “What
are you planning to do about this broken window? It’s unlikely you’ll get a
glass company out here to replace it until morning. Is there somewhere you and
Keith can go for the night?”
“Keith’s
staying at the neighbor’s.” Emma took in the glass all over the floor, the cool
breeze blowing in, and had to swallow a lump in her throat. “I don’t know what
to do about the window.”
“I’ll
help her take care of it.” James reached across the arms of their chairs and
took her hand, palm-to-palm, an offer of solid support—friendship. “Do you know
if your dad has any plywood lying around?”
“Probably.”
Her head spun as the initial adrenaline rush wore off, but she squeezed James’s
hand, grateful. “Thanks.”
He
shook his head. “Don’t worry about it.”
Peters
leveled his gaze on James. “You planning to stick around for a while?”
James
hesitated, his eyes searching hers for approval. “As long as Emma needs. I’ll
help her clean up, make sure she’s not alone if the vandal comes back.”
Something
stirred, fluttered, in Emma’s chest, soft, like the tentacles of a jellyfish in
motion. She tried to push the feeling away, but James held tight, and the warm
sensation traveled up her arm and spread through the rest of her body.
Tread
carefully, Emma. Go slow. Don’t dive in just because it feels good to be
touched, to have someone worry about you.
James
moved her in foreign ways, from places no one else had managed to reach. By all
accounts, he should be forbidden territory. She couldn’t ask him to stay, but
tonight, she didn’t relish the idea of being alone, either.
Another
officer poked his head in the door. “Lieutenant, we’re clear out here.”
“Thanks,
Brown.” Peters handed Emma a business card. “Here’s my number. I’m on duty
until two a.m., but you can call anytime.”

“Thanks.”
She ran her fingers over the card as Peters strode from the house, closing the
door behind him. Outside, the cops got in their cars, turned off the flashing
lights, and one by one, drove away.

discussed their workouts we discussed things like, how to reverse a

Snippet

Courtney glanced out the window overlooking the dining area as she did. Overhead, something momentarily blotted out the sun. It looked like some kind of bird, though none she could identify. She moved closer to the window, trying to decide if she’d seen something or not. “Hey, Tyler, have you heard of there being any kind of large bird in the area?”

Tyler looked up from cleaning the counter with a dishtowel. “Large birds?” He abandoned his cloth and walked over to the window. The hair on the back of his neck began to prickle as he saw another shadow cross over the sun. It didn’t look like the typical fowl.

The silhouette looked like some kind of flying creature. It resembled one he’d seen several years ago. He could clearly see two creatures, even though they were both relatively far away. “That’s not a bird,” he warned. He reached for the nearest weapon, which happened to be a wooden walking stick from against the wall.

Seeing Tyler’s unusual reaction, Anwen felt her chest tighten. “How did they find us?”

Ancient pact between mankind, Heaven, and Hell has been broken

Son
The
Nate Temple Chronicles Book 1
By
Shayne Silvers
Genre:
Supernatural Thriller

A
city that doesn’t believe in magic. Bloodthirsty weredragons. Good
thing this reckless playboy has superpowers…
It’s
been said that monsters cry when a good man goes to war. But they
should run screaming like little school girls when that man is
secretly a wizard, and maybe not necessarily good…
Nate
Temple’s all-consuming quest to avenge his parents is temporarily
put on hold when shape-shifting dragons invade St. Louis. And perhaps
cow-tipping the Minotaur for answers might not have been Nate’s
smartest opening move, because now every flavor of supernatural thug
from our childhood nightmares is gunning for him. Nate learns that
the only way to save his city from these creatures is to murder his
best friend…
Nate’s
choice will throw the world and his own conscience into cataclysmic
chaos: avenge his parents or become a murderer to save his city.
Because to do either, he’s going to have to show the world that
magic is very, very real, and that monsters are very, very hungry…
To survive, he might just need to take a page from the book, How to
Win Friends and Influence Monsters.
If
you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, or Patrick Rothfuss, you will
LOVE the first installment of The Nate Temple Supernatural Thriller
series.

A
Wizard, an Angel, and a Horseman of the Apocalypse walk into a bar…
The
ancient pact between mankind, Heaven, and Hell has been broken. And
this upstart wizard’s quest for vengeance may have just kicked off
Armageddon. So, time for a drink… or maybe two.
Already
plagued with sinister night terrors that could qualify him as a
card-carrying psychopathic insomniac, Nate can barely even manage to
put his pants on in the morning, let alone pick teams for the
Apocalypse.
But
when he’s framed as a demon sympathizer, condemned by the Armies of
Heaven, and hunted down by both his allies and the Four Horsemen,
this wizard doesn’t think it can get any worse…
Then
they take away his magic. And a wizard without magic stands no chance
against the forces of Heaven and Hell…

Grimm
The
Nate Temple Chronicles Book 3

The
Brothers Grimm – legendary supernatural assassins – have escaped
their prison, and their first day in St. Louis could be Nate Temple’s
last…
Sharing
a beer with Death – one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse –
really put a few things into perspective for this foul-mouthed,
billionaire wizard. Like finally strapping on the boots to propose to
his girlfriend.
But
assassination contracts have a way of putting wedding plans on hold.
Perhaps permanently. And with the entire wedding party on the
bloodthirsty Grimm’s hit-list, and his family fortune in jeopardy,
Nate realizes they can’t run and they can’t hide. So, time to do
magic and stuff…
But
with every flavor of supernatural thug teaming up to help the Grimms,
Nate realizes that friends have become enemies and enemies have
become friends, and he’s forced to cross lines that are better left
uncrossed.
When
magic, claws, and teeth dance to the song of war, the only thing left
to learn is who lives and who dies. And if Nate can live with the
consequences.
No
wonder a guy is terrified to propose…

My
resume is pretty full: I’ve cow-tipped the Minotaur, decimated a
gang of weredragons, sucker-punched an Angel, and eaten pancakes with
the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse…
I’ve
kidnapped one of the most powerful wizards on the planet, and
slaughtered the Brothers Grimm. I’m kind of a big deal.
But
I never thought I’d find myself at a crossroads, a pawn in a deadly
game that I hadn’t known existed, willing to sell my soul to save
the life of someone I loved… That’s when I learned true fear,
because the world I thought I knew was all just smoke and mirrors,
and I was just a puppy playing amongst wolves…

Snippet:
Courtney stopped abruptly as the scatterings of a cave-in came into view. “Oh no,” she whispered, one hand to her mouth. Moving slowly, she noticed a body slumped in the hallway. “Please don’t be dead,” she said over and over again as she moved closer. She couldn’t help but wonder which of her friends lay there, and what had happened to the other.

The closer she came, the more detail came to light. She recognized Tyler Durand as he lay on his side. His light-colored hair lay limp against his head. His skin was unnaturally pale. At least she didn’t think he was dead. It took a lot to kill a dragon. But just beyond him, a little more out of the way, lay Anwen Porter. And she wasn’t moving.

Legacy by Author Nichole Giles

Wednesday, October 12th, 2016

Nichole Giles, the author of DESCENDANT, BIRTHRIGHT, and WATER SO DEEP, has lived in Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and Texas. She is a huge fan of all things paranormal and magical. Her dreams include owning a garden full of fairies, riding a unicorn, and taming the pet dragon she adopted at a recent local ComiCon. His name is Zane. She also loves to spend time with her husband and four children, travel to tropical and exotic destinations, drive in the rain with the convertible top down, and play music at full volume so she can sing along.

Q&A With the Author:

1.
Describe yourself in 50 words or less.
An introverted socialite who gives out hugs for free, young-looking, old-feeling mother of the bride x2, justice-seeking, judgment-hating, preacher of compassion and spreading love. Creative and scatterbrained, lives a life of organized chaos. Free-spirited, sun-worshiping summer lover. Down with winter!
2.
What do you love most in the world?
My family. And
then probably the ocean.
3.
What do you fear most?
Losing my loved ones, despite a deep understanding/belief that death is not the end. We’ve lost
a lot of them over the last few years—and even knowing that doesn’t temper the ache of missing those who have moved on. Also, I think taxes. Because isn’t that what people always say? Death and taxes?

Snippet:
Once we’re checked in, I follow Kye to the elevator and down the
hall to our room, dragging my suitcase behind me. He opens the door and waves
me ahead of him. Dropping my bags on the floor, I stumble to the bed and fall
backward onto it to stare at the ceiling. Kye’s face appears above mine. “You
okay?”
I nod. “Exhausted. But I’ll live.”
His smile eases some of the
tension between us. “I hope so. If you didn’t, I couldn’t.” He sits next to me
and runs his fingers down my jaw, across my cheek. “I thought it would be good
to have some time alone. We should talk before we get to Kiersten’s.”
We’ve been alone since we left. My stomach twists with anxiety, and
I can’t prevent the catch in my voice. “More confessions?”
              His fingers keep moving, tracing
my collar bone and shoulder. “No. But I think we need to at least try to make a
plan, figure out where we’re going—what comes next. Sleeping arrangements.” He
glances meaningfully at the pillows. “Didn’t occur to me until now that maybe I
should ask for a double. We’ve been sharing for long enough that I just
assumed.”

Synopsis:

The kingdom of Bethany was once a beautiful place made up of five magical nations, each with their own special gifts. It all changed in a day, however, when the murderous dredgelings arrived. No one quite knows where they came from or how they keep multiplying, no matter how many are killed in the long, cruel war they’ve waged.
All seems to be lost, until a human girl named Taylor is mistakenly transported to Bethany.
Kane, the king over these nations, despises her whole-heartedly at first, and then she makes him laugh for the first time since the devastation began years ago. And the earthling manages to find new ways to surprise him with her valor and loyalty every single day. Unfortunately, Taylor’s only wish through their dangerous quest to reunite three magical stones and save the kingdom, aside from surviving this fearful place, is to return home.

But as fate goes, she soon discovers the only way to recapture the stones and save the lives of the royals she’s come to love as her first real family is to give up any hope of ever returning to her old life. In the end it all comes down to what sort of hero she truly is, one to her own self, or one to entire nations.

“Kas” by Karlie Lucas

“Most teenagers don’t have a voice talking in their heads, but that’s pretty normal for Kas. It’s been there her whole life, giving her directions, keeping her from harm. When the voice advises against the family picnic in the mountains, she’s sure there’s a reason, but convincing her mom is another matter. While in the mountains, Kas accidentally stumbles on a gateway to another dimension. Almost immediately, her life is in peril. From a disembodied man known only as Milord and a hoard of hooded men who want her soul, she doesn’t know who to trust in this strange place where dreams become reality. As Kas learns more about who she is and how she came to the Waymeet of Worlds, it becomes clear that someone is lying to her. But is it the voice she’s known her whole life or the new friends she finds in Milord’s castle. Choosing the wrong people to trust could cost her soul and prevent her from fulfilling her destiny.”

5 – I usually have between three and five different stories that I’m working on at any given time.

6 – I am distantly related to several different former presidents of the United States.

7 – I always wanted to be a red head so I will occasionally dye my hair that color.

8 – I like to cosplay (dress up as) different characters from anime (Japanese cartoons), as well as original characters.

9 – I named my car Edward, not after the character from Twilight, but after an character from the manga Fullmetal Alchemist. (My car is silver.)

10 – I have the best hubby in the whole world, and I’m not just saying that because he makes the absolute best Alfredo sauce on the planet.

And a fun Author interview question

.      How did you come to write this particular book or series?

Kas started out as a sort of Beauty and the Beast story that I wrote in high school. Over the course of ten plus years, I wasn’t satisfied with the basics and tore it apart over and over again. After piecing back together the patchwork I’d made of it, it became what it is now.

The Futhark Chronicles Volume One

Author: Susan Gourley

Fantasy

Young Adult and Adult

Susan’s first debut in the fantasy genre is a five star effort. I immensely enjoyed the characters and the world she had created. It is without a doubt a page-turner, a well-written book full of surprises.

It is the story of a young man, Cage, who has taken the responsibility of protecting a woman and her daughter, Kristall. After her husband died drunk, Anadalune raised Cage as his own mother when his real mother wanted (more…)
