Horrors! Emma’s favorite Gothic novel seems to have come true…but reality is not as fun as fiction. The only man she’s ever loved is home from war, but he has changed in a terrifying way. Unless Emma’s wild imagination is wrong, the love of her life is a vampire! Now she must decide if she can love a creature of darkness, or reveal his secret and lose him forever.
This tongue-in-check novella plays with themes of paranormal fiction, but stays in the realm of clean and wholesome historical romance while exploring the power of trust and love.
Dance with a duke, outwit pirates, save a kingdom, and fall in love. Believe in happily ever after.

Snippet:
Emma looked up at the sound of flapping wings. A patch of darkness blotted out the stars, and she ducked slightly as a bat sailed toward her from deeper in the garden, swooped overhead, and flitted off to the right. There were times when she wished she could soar out into the night like that winged creature, unfettered by so many social rules. After casting a guilty glace over her shoulder at the ballroom, she stepped out of the light and into the night. A fountain murmured nearby. She sauntered to it, inhaling the scent of jasmine. Moonlight glimmered in the surface of the pool below the water sculpture.
A breeze whispered, stirring the trees. She should have thought to bring a shawl. As lovely as it was out in the garden, she’d better return to the ballroom or she might catch a chill. Besides, it wouldn’t do to disappear and set tongues wagging; people might think she was on some sort of illicit rendezvous, and she daren’t risk ruin. Of course, if she died a spinster, that wouldn’t really matter, but she couldn’t dishonor her family name.
The bat flapped overhead again and wheeled away, disappearing behind a large shrub. A dark form stepped out of the same shrub. Her breath caught and she jumped as a tall man approached.

Her first day in the ER proves to be a humiliating disaster

Friday, August 3rd, 2018

TJ Amberson hails from the Pacific
Northwest, where she lives with her husband and nutty cocker spaniel. Her most recent novels include The Kingdom of Nereth, The Council of Nereth, Fusion, and Love at Lakewood Med. When she’s not writing, TJ can probably be found enjoying
a hot chocolate, pretending to know how to garden, riding her bike, playing the piano, or surfing the Internet for cheap plane tickets.

With a love of writing in multiple
genres, TJ Amberson strives to provide well-written, age-appropriate, and
original novels for tweens, teens, and new adults.

Savannah Drake would be thrilled about starting her final year of medical school if it weren’t for one thing: she has to spend a month working in the emergency room with cold, aloof Dr. Wesley Kent as her mentor.

When her first day in the ER proves to be a humiliating disaster, Savannah is ready to swear off emergency medicine forever. Gradually, though, she finds that the unpredictable, emotional experience of caring for patients in the emergency room is affecting her far differently than she expected–and Dr. Kent turns out to be anything but the arrogant attending physician that she assumed him to be.

But just when Savannah finally admits to herself that she is falling for Dr. Kent, she learns that things at the hospital are not all what they seem.

Faced with a seemingly impossible choice, Savannah must decide between her future career and everything that she has come to care so much about.

Snippet:
Danielle uses her fork to stab another strawberry out of her fruit salad. “Come on, you can’t tell me that working with someone as good looking as Doctor Kent isn’t going to help you enjoy this rotation a little bit.”

“Are you kidding?” I exclaim. “You saw how he was at the
orientation meeting yesterday. He’s completely devoid of personality.”

“Devoid of personality or not, Doctor Kent is handsome.” Danielle gives me a wry smile. “At least your view at work will be nice.”

The widowed Elise is a perfect English lady living within the confines of society for the sake of her impressionable young son. Her quiet world is shattered when she meets the impulsive and scandalous Jared Amesbury. His roguish charm awakens her yearning for adventure. But his irrepressible grin and sea-green eyes hide a secret.

A gentleman by day, a pirate by night, Jared must complete one last assignment from the Secret Service before he can be truly free. Elise gives him hope that he, too, can find love and belonging. His hopes are crushed when his best laid plans go awry and Elise is dragged into his world of violence and deceit. She may not survive the revelation of Jared’s past…or still love him when the truth is revealed.
The Guise of a Gentleman is a clean and wholesome Regency Romance, a.k.a. “clean” that explores finding one’s true self, loyalty, honor, and trusting loved ones. With plenty of swashbuckling action, it provides a several good twists that play off of familiar situations and proudly proclaims the redemptive power of love.

Snippet:
“You are a woman of great courage to face those cutthroats alone.”

His fingers closed around hers as if she were a lifeline. Her late husband’s hands had always been smooth and soft, the hands of a gentleman, so unlike this man’s calluses which bespoke hard work. She marveled at the strength in those hands, not to mention the tingles that traveled up her arm.

A flush crept over her face and she struggled to retain her composure. “I saw a cruel act and felt compelled to intervene. I could do nothing less.”

His eyes darted over her face and he said in a stronger voice, “Those men might have turned on you.”

“I’m an excellent shot.”

“And did you not consider that you may have been in danger from me?”

She suspected many women found him a very great danger, but not for the reason he spoke.

Swallowing against a dry mouth, she lifted her chin. “You hardly looked dangerous at the time. And I daresay you lack the strength to offer any threat now.”

The barest hint of a smile twitched his lips and a wicked light glinted in his sea-green eyes.

Scot tugs at my elbow, urging me toward another natural passageway that widens into an open space twice the size of the previous cavern. I stare up at the rounded ceiling above my head. The formation appears natural though the six hollowed openings all around the edges do not. Each of the six openings has a man-made desk situated in it, and each opening looks like it serves a specific purpose. Some have computer screens attached to the wall, others have devices that look like strange ear muffs.

Before I can find out more, Scot leads me down the dimly lit hall to the left. With each step my body tenses. If these people aren’t who they say they are, I’m in big trouble. I scan the area, mentally mapping my surroundings and searching for the best possible escape routes. My fingers tighten on my bow. I take a breath to calm the rising paranoia, telling myself that if they were the enemy, they wouldn’t take a chance leaving me armed.

We turn a corner and enter another cavern. This one is more than triple the size of the first. The whole stinking mountain must be hollow. Several levels of openings, each with their own group of busy people, rise above me to the ceiling nearly forty feet overhead.

My mouth drops open, and my eyes dart around the room, trying to take in everything all at once. On one side of the cave, six computers surround a screen similar to the one Melami used to show Leahli and me the information about Mericon. The people at the computers watch the screen intently, accompanied by a low murmur of voices. Opposite the computers I notice a short passage to another room where, at a glance, I make out all sorts of gadgets and equipment.

On the second level people move around dressed in white coats, and I wonder if they are medicine men and women, or doctors as Tolaree’s textbooks termed them. I turn in a circle, craning my neck to see what is on the third and fourth levels, but my limited height hides them from view.

As I turn, the murmur of voices slows and eventually stops. The eerie silence captures my attention. My gaze comes full circle to meet a slightly older but otherwise mirror-image version of myself. Everything from the petite frame right down to the flaming red hair and violet eyes is the same. My mother, Guinolen Storm.

Now that I regard her in person, I notice the subtle differences between us. Her milky white skin is much paler than mine, and her hair is much tamer and more controlled, with a lot less curl. She’s a fraction of an inch shorter than me, and her mouth is heart-shaped while mine is more oval.

The silence around us makes my stomach twist, and I shift my feet.

Guinolen smiles. “Eridale.”

Her smooth voice holds a lilting hint of an accent. As it sounds across my ears, a thousand brief memories assault me. I remember that voice singing softly in the darkness. I remember it crying as well as fighting. I remember it pledging love to Tanier McClough and later telling me I have a sister. Tears spring to my eyes as these memories flood in, momentarily pushing the harsher feelings back. That lasts for about five seconds before all the longing, sorrow, frustration, and anger return with a vengeance. I swallow hard, working to rein in my tumultuous emotions.

My voice is flat and emotionless when I respond. “Mom.”

Drafted as a doughboy in the Meuse-Argonne Campaign

Monday, November 13th, 2017

Joshua Henry Bates, a young teacher of a country school, wonders if there will be more to his life. Yes, there are summers away from the farm, attending the University of Utah, dancing at Saltair, watching pictures shows, and eating ice cream on bone dry days. In his journal he questions his future. He finds a young woman to love, but she is an ever-mutating mystery. His job seems to be a dead-end. His parents need his help more all the time. Josh tries to change his life: cooling the relationship with his girlfriend, teaching in a new school, and registering for service in the American Expeditionary Forces. Still, Joshua is filled with self-doubt. Will Josh marry the girl? Will he find a dazzling life mission? Will he be victorious in war? Each chapter contains one to thirty primary sources from the life of this young man drafted as a doughboy in the Meuse-Argonne Campaign.
 Praise for the book:

If you have ever searched for your own history, or a way to bring

history to life, this book is a masterpiece.”

Gerald soon discovers solving a murder mystery meets with a stone cold reception

An
Unconventional Mr. Peadlebody
by
D.L. Gardner
Genre:
Paranormal Humor

Rockford
Peadlebody dies in a train wreck while traveling with his family, (a
rather dysfunctional lot of half-blood vampires) after a flood in
Mississippi washes their home away. Once his brother Gerald, his wife
Ginger, and son Raymond reach grandpa’s estate in Ohio, they are
surprised by the news that grandaddy Benjamin Peadlebody has also
died. They are now heirs to the infamous Peadlebody manor and all its
peculiarities, including the butler, a reserved, tattooed, muscle-man
named Richard Cottlebone,

It
seems fishy to Gerald that two untimely deaths in the family happened
within a week. Yes, Rockford’s demise was of his own doing, but
Benjamin’s? Perhaps the butler, knows more than he’s letting on?

To
prove himself worthy, since he failed to live up to old Benjamin’s
standards when he was alive, Gerald goes about to unravel the thread
of Papa’s death. No help comes from Ginger. She’s too busy trying to
un-vampire herself. And Raymond is in love, but not with his
relatives. Gerald soon discovers solving a murder mystery meets with
a stone cold reception.

My review*****

The Unconventional Mr. Peadlebody by D. L. Gardner is quite an interesting tale about dysfunctional vampires. It is a great tale, with even a nicer plot that will keep you glue to it’s pages. I enjoyed the characters and their quirky personalities. It is a wholesome tale and would be enjoy by the whole family.

Raymond wants a normal life, he doesn’t want to be a half vampire and his mother is trying everything to make it happen for both of them. His grandfather is dead and so is his father. His uncle inherited the Peadlebody Mansion and, with it, the library and all his father’s diaries. Who would want those diaries and why and would they kill to obtain them? These are some of the mysteries that await readers as they peruse this tale. Nice writing of a good story and the telling.

This story is completely different than any other vampire books out there. In a sense, it is quite refreshing and fresh in that genre. The characters are well developed and fun to get to know and cheer on. All in all, a good read for a winter’s night by the fire.

Working as an informant for the DEA, Victoria Monzelle is used to living on
the edge. But she’s not a big fan of getting kidnapped. And
definitely not by a bunch of bad boy witches with fancy-colored fire
to shoot at people. So when Adam Dunne shows up and claims to be a
witch enforcer, she’s not going to put her life in his hands based
on his word, no matter how smooth and smart and beautifully Irish his
words sound. But on the run from a tribunal of witches, she isn’t
going to make it far . . .
Before she knows it, Adam’s word is all that stands between her and
execution. Sophisticated, just-gotta-ruffle-him Adam has vowed to
make her his one eternal mate, wild and unpredictable as she is—to
save her from a sentence of certain death. But Tori isn’t
interested in being anyone’s pity date. And if they think she’s
unpredictable now, they should see what’s coming next . . .

Breathe in, breathe out.

This mantra gets Tessa Benson through the day.

The man she loves walks all over her, and she just wants to get by without her
heart shattering to pieces. If she could find her voice, she’d scream.

Everything changes in one night, when she’s snatched from the streets and tied
to a bed, a camera set up to capture her dying moment. And the person who paid
to watch her die…is still out there somewhere.

Tessa prowls dark neighborhoods in a quest for justice, but she doesn’t find the killer. Not until they strike again…in the place Tessa is least expecting, and where it hurts worst.

Snippets:
“That’s true and further proves my point,” Terin says. “It’s time you started sticking up for yourself. So, back to the Tom thing…you’re over him then? You’re doing okay?”
I bite my lip and stare at the ceiling fan overhead. Mostly shadows in the dark room, its blades are still and my clock light reflects off it oddly in the center so that it almost appears to have eyes. It looks like a starfish clinging to my roof.
Should I lie or tell her that I’m miserable and praying he’ll call me? I don’t even know why. Like she said, he’d told me he couldn’t see me anymore. Not that he didn’t want to see me. Just that he couldn’t. That thought makes me sick to my stomach. How could I want a man who no longer wants me? I bet Gerald would be more than happy if I called him tonight. Ugh, I’m such a stupid girl sometimes.
“Yeah, yeah, Terin, don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. I, uh…”
My phone buzzes as a text comes in.
Without thinking, I pull the phone from my ear to take a peek. It’s Tom. My
heart thuds against my ribcage. Hit the text. Read it silently, holding my
breath while my friend rambles on.
Tom: Stop. Texting. Me.
That’s it. That’s all he has to say to me. Tears well up and I feel like I might choke on them. Swallow down the shame. Terin was right about him. I never meant anything to him. I’m probably one of many. Insignificant. I place the phone to my ear and listen to the last bit of whatever Terin prattles on about. I can’t focus. When she pauses, I take the chance to escape. “Hey, I hate to cut it short, but my stomach is killing me. I think I might have eaten something bad. Do you mind if we hang up for the night?”
“No, no, sure. Sorry you’re not feeling so good. Hope you’re not on the toilet all night long. Remember that time I ate the bad clam chowder and nearly died from projectile diarrhea?”
No answer.
“Okay, I’ll let you go then, Tess. Just call me in the morning to let me know you’re alive.”
Hoping I still sound cheerful, I say goodnight, hang up, and toss the phone to the foot of the bed.
I’m not even going to try to breathe through this. I stare up at the ceiling and let the tears run down my cheeks,
into my hair, and onto my pillow. The starfish on the ceiling stares back at
the sad, pathetic girl and laughs.

Snippet #1:
Rowena nudged Evan with her elbow. “I have an idea.”
Evan groaned under his breath. “The last time you
had an idea, I nearly broke my neck.”
“Oh, pish. You only fell a short distance, and it
was worth it. Besides, I concocted several diverting ideas while you were gone,
and no one fell to his death.” She leaned forward and peered into his face. Are
you still there? she longed to ask.
Without turning his head, he slid his gaze to her.
His eyes remained that same intriguing mixture of brown and green, yet somehow
different— wary, cautious. “That’s because no one else is foolish enough to go
along with your madcap plots.”
She grinned. “Only you, which is partly why I missed
you so much. I need a courageous friend for this idea.”
“Courageous or mad?”
“Semantics.”

The
Wizard Killer
Season
1
by
Adam Dreece
Genre:
Post-Apocalyptic, Fantasy

“Harry
Potter meets Die Hard” – M. Bybee, WereBook.org
“Madmax
meets Lord of the Rings” – Goodreads.com

A
world once at the height of magical technology and social order has
collapsed. How and why are the least of the wizard killer’s
worries.
Leaning
my bloody head against the back of the crashed levitating carriage, I
flex my cramped fingers. With a renewed grip on the mana-pistol, I
steal a quick breath. The others better wake up fast, otherwise we’re
all going to burn.
Written
using a binge-TV show model, Season 1 contains 20 pulse-pounding
episodes, and is an all new side to best-selling YA author, Adam
Dreece.

“…an
intense action movie-style romp through a wonderfully detailed
fantasy world. I freaking LOVED this story! I loved the cinematic
feel, I loved the action scenes, I loved the characters. It is like
Harry Potter meets Die Hard” — M Bybee, WereBooks.org, 5 Stars

“…imaginative
and compelling series that is quite difficult to stop reading. Dreece
knows exactly how to build and then neatly tie up each episode, while
leaving the reader wanting more…. highly recommended.”

Adam
Dreece kicked off his indie author career with his best-selling
steampunk meets fairy tale series, The Yellow Hoods, which struck a
chord with kids 9-15 and adults. After four books in the series, the
former software architect put out two more young adult books, the
post-apocalyptic fantasy book The Wizard Killer – Season One, and
then his science fiction novel, The Man of Cloud 9. The first two
novels in The Yellow Hoods series, as well as The Wizard Killer, have
been finalists for Book of the Year awards from the Independent
Author’s Network.
When
he’s not working on his next book, Adam can be found giving talks
at schools, libraries, associations, as well as comic-con type events
like CalgaryExpo and FanExpoCanada on subjects from how to get one’s
ideas out and stepping outside of one’s comfort zone, to how to
give a successful book signing.
Along
the way, Adam has faced many challenges, including working around his
Dyslexia (reading and writing disorder), and needing to be ruthless
with his time and energy in face of his severe asthma and chronic
abdominal scar pain. He’s become an inspiration to some, and a
symbol of tenacious hard work to others.
He
lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with his wife and children. He is
an active online mentor at adamdreece.com, and is a busy public
speaker, panelist, and author in Canada and the Pacific Northwest.
