Roxanne, a vision in ivory silk and lace rendered, the scene romantic rather than sinister

From Jane Austen to Georgette Heyer, Arabella has found both enjoyment and inspiration in sparkling, witty Regency novels. She also loves history and generally finds the past more fascinating than the future. Arabella wrote her first Regency romance to entertain her aged mom who loved the genre. Arabella is honoured to share the adventures of her heroes and heroines with readers.
A sparkling traditional Regency romance to enchant fans.
When the young and handsome
Earl of Pennington discovers the inheritance from his great-uncle depends on
him marrying at midnight on the eve of his thirtieth birthday, he is irate.
Marriage is not part of his plan to save his impoverished estates. He crosses
paths unexpectedly with the beautiful Roxanne Chesney, who is fleeing from her
abusive husband.

He offers her a contract: marriage for six months to help him
fulfil the conditions of his great-uncle’s will, enabling him secure his
inheritance. In return he will pay her a small fortune.

Can Roxanne resist this
offer? What about the revolting Edgar Doyle who forced her into a loveless
marriage that has not been consummated? Roxanne has escaped Edgar’s clutches,
but she wonders how long she will manage to evade him. The earl’s contract has
no strings attached. The offer is irresistible except for the fact that Roxanne
is already married!

Snippet:
The candlelight cast a soft glow in the
room and imbued the bride with an ethereal radiance. Mr. Lobb had a faint sense
that the proceedings were slightly irregular. He could not remember anyone
performing a marriage ceremony at midnight before. It smacked of the exotic,
something he had never been encouraged to consider. However, the appearance of
Roxanne, a vision in ivory silk and lace rendered, the scene romantic rather
than sinister.
Mr. Lobb was even more agitated than ever
since brides in the village were never as beautiful as the dream of loveliness
that Roxanne presented. He gulped several times, and his large Adam’s apple
bobbed up and down as he found himself temporarily speechless. Roxanne shook
hands with him, and he gasped and wheezed before managing a strangled “Good
evening.” The worldly thought that the Earl of Pennington was to be envied in
his choice of
bride sneaked into the back of his mind,
and he uttered a small sigh of rapture. Mrs. Dawson and Gregson attended in the
capacity of witnesses. Rufus had been banished to the stables, but the howling
that emitted from behind the doors was so awful that Julian had relented at
last on the condition of good behaviour. The hound lay in front of the fire,
his nose on his paws, behaving impeccably.

The problem is that Patience is already madly in love with his lordship

Arabella Sheraton grew up on a diet of Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, and many other writers of that period.

In this charming traditional Regency romance novella, Patience Cherwell is resigned to a life of spinsterhood. Therefore, when her young friend, the lovely Lorna Hartley, comes to stay for a London season, she decides the eligible, handsome Lord Blackwood is the perfect match for Lorna. Granted, Lord Blackwood, at forty, is much older than the vivacious 20-year-old Lorna, but Patience is determined to help her young friend make a good match. So why isn’t she happy when his lordship and Lorna seem to like each other’s company? The problem is that Patience is already madly in love with his lordship!

An unexpected invitation arrives for Lorna and Patience to attend Lord Blackwood’s Valentine Ball. This is the perfect moment for him to propose to Lorna. Mysteriously, a corsage arrives from an anonymous admirer. Who is it for? And what will be the outcome for the wearer at Lord Blackwood’s Valentine Ball?

This novella is the prequel to The Lady’s Revenge.

Snippet:
For her part, Patience had noticed everything about Lord Blackwood in one massive burst of clarity, as if his physical proximity heightened all her senses. The cleft in his firm chin, the somewhat tired look in his eyes that might be the sadness Henrietta mentioned, the way his coat fitted him so well across the breadth of his shoulders, his height which made her feel small and delicate, and the manly aura he exuded. He wore subtle spiced cologne water that she found appealing and strangely sensual, although she had pushed that wicked thought away, lest it cause more blushes. His eyes were hazel, flecked with green, and he had long dark eyelashes and straight black brows. It was futile to be the least bit interested in Lord Blackwood because he was not at all attracted to her. His smile for Lorna was caressing—or did she just imagine it?—and his glance fell upon Lorna’s fiery tresses and rose petal complexion with tenderness—or did she imagine that as well?

What have I done? I was a fool not to wait for Mr. Whittaker. Oh, Gareth, if only you were here…

In this delightful traditional Regency romance, Miss Diana Dashwood accepts an invitation to Lady Prescott’s Christmas party at Camden House, in the countryside. But things do not go quite as she imagined. Through an unexpected event, she is forced to spend the night in a woodsman’s hut with one of the guests. What a scandal!
Of course, Sir Gareth Blakely must propose, and he does. Unfortunately, Miss Diana Dashwood has already been engaged to and broken off her engagement from Sir Gareth Blakely after a bitter quarrel. Is it likely she will bow to social pressure and accept his proposal, one made only to save her reputation, and if they marry, does their union stand a chance of survival?
And what about the pretty heiress, Miss Jemima Plymstock, whom everyone thinks is the lady Sir Gareth had his eye upon? Headstrong and proud, Miss Diana Dashwood is caught in a dreadful dilemma. A must-read for Regency fans!
Snippet:
Diana stepped into the carriage as if hypnotized and sat next to Miss Plymstock. “What are you going to do to me?” she asked.
Mr. Rundle put on an expression of exaggerated surprise while Miss Taggart giggled behind one black-gloved hand. He stroked his beard.
“My dear Miss Dashwood, you are so imaginative. You make me sound like a villain in these romantic novels so popular with young ladies nowadays. I am going to do nothing to you. You will witness the marriage, along with Miss Taggart. I will begin my honeymoon with my lovely young bride, and the carriage will return you to town. Then you will, no doubt, make your way back to London and forget all about Jemima.”
He gave a leering wink.
“She will be too busy learning her new marital duties as Mrs. Rundle to keep up any acquaintance with you.”
He knocked on the roof of the carriage to signal the driver. Miss Plymstock moaned but did not wake. Diana looked out of the carriage window as the horses gained speed.
What have I done? I was a fool not to wait for Mr. Whittaker. Oh, Gareth, if only you were here.

Saving Lord Whitton’s Daughter

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016
Lady Bethany would rather die a spinster than submit to marriage—and thus reveal the horrible secret she has harbored for more than a year
Lord Locke is far too immersed in his service to the Crown for romance, but Lady Bethany is in dire circumstances.
Indebted to Bethany’s late father and his close friend, the earl offers a perfect solution for both of them: a marriage in name only.
Perfect, if only they weren’t so irresistibly drawn to each other—and if Bethany hadn’t found herself falling in love with a man even more mysterious than his reputation. Perfect, until she unwittingly learns he’s protecting her from a threat to her life.
To Mark, Bethany is just another assignment, a woman he’s convinced is hiding something. His offer of marriage was meant only to make it easier to safeguard her.
But when the simple threat turns to attempted murder and treason, Mark realizes that Bethany has stolen his heart and he can do nothing less than throw himself into a race against time to save her, whatever the price.

Saving Lord Whitton’s Daughter is a clean, engaging historical romance by Susan Tietjen. I found the reading great, the pacing smooth and the characters fun and likeable. The scenes portray a proper era and the characters play their part divinely.
Lady Bethany doesn’t want to marry on account of being hurt horribly one night, and she feels that she has nothing to offer a man. For up to a year she manages to avoid the wedding bells, until her mother tells her that if she doesn’t marry soon they will lose their home and the precious horses her father raced there.
Lord Locke, for his part, after finding out about the young woman’s dire situation, and having been great friends with her late father and older brother, feels the only way he can help her is by marrying her. His work for the crown keeps him away from his home most of the year, so he offers her a marriage of convenience and only in name.
It is so fun to see them slowly falling in love, yet no wanting to impose on the other’s feelings. Also their promises to each other to not demand from the other any rights to their marriages vows keeps them apart for a long while. It is an excellent romance and could be loved by either YA or adults alike. Great job.

tour-banner-2

About the book:

Twenty year old Diana Forester, a country bred young woman fears that her inexperience and uncertainties has driven Mr. John Richfield away. On arriving back home from London, she learns that he is already there, ready to continue their acquaintance. If Diana thought that it was difficult in London, courting takes on a whole new aspect when Diana’s younger siblings become involved. She finds herself dealing with her own feelings, her sister, her younger brother, jealous members of a house party, a jilted suitor, and a highwayman as she falls in love with the charming Mr. Richfield.

cover-4

My review:

Chaotic Courtship by Bethany Swafford is not your typical Regency Romance. It has the expected drama but also a mystery involving a Highwayman. The characters are lovable and they are sound in their roles. The story is lighthearted, enjoyable and clean.

Diana is of age and as all young lady in this time of their life should find a husband. Her dowry is not a big one and two gentlemen have asked for her hand. The first one was her best friend and she could never love him that way. The second one is quite influential in many ways, which make her believe that he will be disappointed with her humble origins and soon be off to his own life.

Imagine her surprise when he arrived in her hometown even before she did. All seam perfect until her sister and her best friend decide that her husband to be is the notorious Highwaymen. The rumors could ruin him and how would he take it if he knew it was her sister who started the rumors?

I enjoyed Chaotic Courtship by Bethany Swafford for her clean writing and easy reading. It was a fun, witty and fast read. It will be enjoy by YA as well as Adults of all ages
