I
am, first and foremost, a storyteller and an artist–words are my
palette. Fantasy is my genre of choice, and I love to explore the
darker side of human nature through the filter of fantasy heroes,
villains, and everything in between. I’m also a freelance writer, a
book lover, and a guy who just loves to meet new people and spend
hours talking about my fascination for the worlds I encounter in the
pages of fantasy novels.

Fantasy
provides us with an escape, a way to forget about our mundane
problems and step into worlds where anything is possible. It
transcends age, gender, religion, race, or lifestyle–it is our way of
believing what cannot be, delving into the unknowable, and
discovering hidden truths about ourselves and our world in a brand
new way. Fiction at its very best!

Matt Lazar an Interview of YA Romance Author

Saturday, June 29th, 2013

Matt, tell us where you were born and where do you live now.

I’m from Cleveland, Ohio and now live in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Ole! How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Interesting question. From start to finish the first draft took me about a year to complete. I worked in fits and starts though, writing around my day job and ‘life’. I think if I had worked on the first draft full-time I would have finished in about 2 months

I know what you mean. Who or What inspired you to write this book?

I met a girl who was a friend of a friend. She told me her story and Warrior Girl is inspired by her.

Inspired by a real person, nice. What is the title of your book?

Warrior Girl

Very good title. Could you give us a back cover blurb?

A beautiful young Korean girl, Sun Hi Kim, is beginning her first year at Oxford University. Thousands of miles away from home for the first time, she struggles to adjust to a different culture. Sun Hi befriends two English boys. Miles is a handsome final year student who is also captain of the Oxford rowing team. Adam, a first year student who is also a hunk, hero-worships Miles, his rowing idol.

Sun Hi knows that she’s naive and has never had a boyfriend, let alone an English boyfriend. Her first forays into desire very nearly end in disaster. Between rowing, her studies, boys, and an arrogant roommate, Sun Hi often feels overwhelmed. Playing World of Warcraft is the one thing she can do to escape her problems, at least for a little while.

A game to relax…I write books for that. 🙂 What genre does your book fall under?

Young adult romance

Fun stuff alright…Do you have a favorite character, why?

My favorite character is Miles. On the surface he’s rich and arrogant, kind of a jerk. By the end of the story I found myself rooting for him, much to my surprise!

Characters do that some time. What kind of impact do you expect your works to have in the reader’s lives?

Reader feedback has been a lot of fun to read! Most of the readers I’ve talked to or who have written reviews have said they found the book a quick, fun read, and that they learned about something new and cool (World of Warcraft).

Quick, fun, my kind of books. What else might pique the reader’s interest in your book?

My favorite stories are easy to read and show me something I haven’t seen before. This was my hope for Warrior Girl. My ‘why’ as a writer is that novels should be fun to read (this is a reference to the wonderful TED talk Simon Sinek: How great leaders inspire action).

Other than Warrior Girl being the only novel I know of where the main character plays World of Warcraft and WOW is a big part of the plot, it’s also an interesting look at what it’s like to be a student at an elite college such as Oxford University.

I can’t wait…Where can we find your book?

You can find Warrior Girl on Amazon. The Kindle version currently available for $0.99: http://www.amazon.com/Warrior-Girl-ebook/dp/B009WCPH6Y/

It was great to visit with you Matt. Hope we can see more of your work in the future.

Review for readersfavosite.com

The writing in Three for Avadar is simple and should be understood by anyone with basic English reading skills. The tale hasn’t been overused and the author did a good job with the theme. (more…)
